Need a friendly arm?
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:53:22 pm »

Alright, before reading this thread read This.

 Holy Goddam.

Now note I did not check the sources of this and somebody very well could come and bite me in the ass for this, but Holy Goddam.

We can reattach limbs now. Alright, so there will be a year or so where your arms will feel like you've slept on them and likely not all dexterity will return, but Damn!

Well this is pretty cool, better if we could get some stem cell research to help out with this but with surgery alone this looks like a pretty good result.

The ultimate cure is to not get your arms cut off in the first place.

It can't be that hard.

Unfortunately certain major religions won't let it happen.

Unfortunately certain people within major religions won't let it happen.
Due to the way religions work, and the ambiguity of some of their scriptures, I tent to push the blame onto the peoples interpretations of said religons and scriptures.

But yes, am I the only one who comes up with a billion ways ones arm can get cut off by that fast spinning thing with a billion horses behind it?

Just saying, a group as widespread as a major religion tends to have more idiots and more idiots in power.

By that sentence I mean anything mechanical with something that spins with enough horsepower to move a car.

The thing against stem cells is pretty dumb, considering there are non-abortion-related ways to get them.

Still, I think this applies.  The Fred Phelpses and the hardcore fundies are the ones the media shows and they give the quiet, humble, respectful religious people a bad name through association.

 RELIGIOUS DISCUSSION?! IN MY TOPIC?!

Seriously, this will only end badly. This topic is about the reattachment of limbs. This is about as impressive as those prosthetic limbs that could sense what you are thinking.

Live limbs are lame.

I want cybernetic limbs.

Once we have working bionic limb technology I'm going to have a tragic encounter with a wheat thresher.

We have the technology.  We can rebuild me.

Didn't a religious argument get locked by Toady less than 24 hours ago? Wouldn't you guys consider this a little too soon? Maybe? Just a little?

I would also prefer bionic arms. Reattached limbs are great, but you can't upgrade reattached arms with lasers, and that's for damn sure.

EDIT: I missed this.
Once we have working bionic limb technology I'm going to have a tragic encounter with a wheat thresher.

I'm pretty sure we already do. Not perfect, but this kind of thing is happening already.

Didn't that one guy with prosthetic legs get banned from the Olympics?

This is the first step.  The courts of man have shown that they consider cyborgs to be subhuman.
