The factions I'm thinking should be rather large. They have all been around a long time, and only the largest and strongest have survived, and that's because they usually have some special powers granted to them by their beliefs. The mechanists have actually found many rules, and rules have loopholes, and this aplies to the rules of the universe as well. They've managed to not only survive, but to prosper and expand due to this. They're also the only source of lawyers in the world, and they have a very long history, but it's so very merticulously detailed that it goes into far too much detail, combined with it's being devoid of passion leads to only a veteran mechanist having the patience and mindset to read through it.

Incidentally, I'm there should only be like, 10-20 of these around.

P.S. would that make Yanlin both a king and a troll?

Yes, 10 or 20 large factions, but mechanists being the smallest large faction, whit only 1% or less of population. there are also probably a few hundred minor factions, which all of them together having less members than even the mechanists.

And yes, big, powerful trolls could sometimes become kings, their lands would be dark places indeed, those lands would be safe heavens for trolls were they could breed and flourish, then then spread to other places. there is few things more devastating than an army of trolls, for they can crush your very spirit, and the natural resilience of their skill means none but gods can easily kill them, for they will always be reborn.

The minor factions should be part of a "large" faction called the Free Alliance. Basically it is an organization that looks out for all those small ones, offering them support. Small factions cannot survive by themselves, as the kings do not look kindly on them. The large ones are big enough for the kings not to mess with.

ok, but in that case I want small factions to consit of more like 2%-5% of population. also there should be a % of population that are not interested in factions at all. Factiaons seem to have many similarities to religions btw?

I'd join if the game could gather itself up into a single comprehensible block. Right now I can barely make out the edges of the blob of text that makes up its structure.

Just a rundown of the game's world so far, part 1:

metaphysics: 1.Belief: affects most everything. There are constants it can't change, like things falling down, but things like geography, and how the world works at it's largest are affected by it.

2.magic: Not quite sorted out yet.

3.hierarchy of geography: A.Islands: Huge spheres containing empires, usually ruled over by a sub-god, also known as a wizard in the stead of a god. equivalent to forums, I think.

B. Empires: Possibly the equivalent of boards. Organizations and collections of broadly similar lands. May have sub empires within.

C. Lands: Forum threads. Most commonly take the forms of discs and spheres, although stranger shapes are very well recorded. This is where the people live. They are created by beings called kings, who have massive power over their own lands.The lands are divided into places made and ruled over by lords. (posts, and posters.) Anyone can move from any land to any other land by just walking and believing the path that they take will lead them there.

D. The world of the Psyche: a reverse of the real world, reachable with effort. Each area is a reflection of a nation, landmark or geographical location in the real world, based upon what the people who dwell there see it as. Powerful magic users and creatures have their own area here, that is reflective of their mind. Getting from one place to another here can be difficult, as this world is chaotic and shifting. Travel is easy, however. After all, all you have to do is think about moving to go somewhere.

4.Hierarchy of people: Gods/forum admins/owners: Unlimited power. There is nothing that they can't do. When they war, nobody wins.

Subgods/wizards/moderators: Incredibly powerful, but not as much as the gods. Most of them are rather warlike and brutal in this day and age.

Wizkids/board moderators: Like the above, but with their powers focused in a narrow range.

Kings/mages/thread makers: they have the power to create and rule over lands, as well as general magic power.

Lords/super/poster: They make and rule areas of lands, rather limited magical powers

Mortal magic-users/extraordinaries: Basically, mortals who can use magic. Powers vary.

Mortals: Life, tends to get the short end of the stick. Sapients are not affected by belief, but non-sapients are. They may have the mastery of technology.

5. Physics: Based upon the whims of kings, mostly.

Creatures: Trolls: Small and annoying at first, but they get bigger. When they get bigger, they also get meaner and more powerful as well, with the largest becoming kings. Beware these, as lands ruled over by them are horrific and desolate.

Dwarfs: Oh come on, are we really going to do this without the lovable little morons?

Olmmen: 4-armed and slow moving. They are slow but they make up for it by always moving with purpose. No-one knows what they're planning.

Factions: Large, wide-spread organizations devoted to espousing and acting out the tenents of a specific philosophy, around about 10-20 exist. They have the power to take on kings, but they are more concerned with mortals, well, most of them.

The Machinists: They believe in a hidden order of rules. To this end they merticulously research and catalog every rule, local and otherwise they can find. Due to the power of belief, they have actually found some. Remember, every law has it's loopholes, including natural laws. They own every lawyer most everywhere.

The Free Alliance: An umbrella organization devoted to protecting those fractions too small to fend off the kings by themselves. They believe that everyone should have a say, and that everyone should be able to make and state their own opinions.

No way. The conservation of mass can not be broken.

Unless you want peasant magi to be able to kill gods just with the PERFECT COMBINATION of spells.
Like... Big Bang + Big Crunch + Reverse Reincarnation + Reverse Summoning (essentially summon affected to another realm) + etc etc etc.

But only few people have the gift. And of those only few get the proper training. And of those only few are actually so powerful they could ever hope to cast spells that beat the Lords own powerful magic.

Also the conservation of mass may be broken. We are not talking about an ordinary universe here. As laws of physics go the conservation of mass is one of the first to go in magical settings.

About factions: They are meant to represent a philosophy. I think that Turquiose Monkey is a nation. The potectorate work as one, as their philosophy is something along the lines of: if the world is controlled by a single body of good and law, everyone can have peace and happiness. The Godslayers also work as one. Theirs being: the immortals are a force of opression, they must be destroyed, so that mortals can be free. I think they'd probably be sheltering in the ruins of VN. Where there is no gods, sub-gods or kings/lords to stop them. As a result of this they are suffering from some resource problems, as places like that aren't very good to live in, being wastelands filled with very little of note.

What about a small splinter group of machinists that have found a loophole in the universe, and have exploited it to gain powers similar to gods/admins/owners, called hackers?

Also, are trolls capable of magic or not?

The Mechanists are all about loopholes. It would not be much of a stretch to assume that there is one allowing a few to become king-like in power. But it should be noted that if you overuse loopholes, the universe tends to take a very sharp look at what you're doing.

belief: The universe makes perfect sense. This Is Not A Good Thing.
Headquarters: The Wandering Asylum
Symbol: An open book with a hand reaching out from the center with a white blaze behind it.

It was sometime ago that something appeared in the mental realm. It was formless, but it's movement was easy to track. Because it left behind it a trail of people who had been changed. They now knew the absolute truth behind the universe. They knew what you would get if you stripped away all the rules and belief. It is a terrible, terrible thing to know that the universe has something behind it; and it is an infinitely more terrible thing to know that not only does it not care about you, it does not care about mortals and their morals, beliefs and rules at all.

The sanity of their members is something that they have to struggle for. Most of them keep themselves sane by some kind of charity work. It is a rare city that does not have even a small enclave of the Lost, running soup kitchens, free hospitals and especially asylums. They have something of an affinity with madness, as every last one of them is in some way, insane. This has resulted in most of their members being somewhat psychically reactive (as madness is a known catalyst of psychic powers), and their mages specialize in matters of the mind. Few actively oppose the Lost, as they are a neutral factor in most conflicts, and it does not look good for someone to beat up charity workers.

Unlike the other factions, they don't recruit actively. When someone has given up on their beliefs, or when they just cannot take the world another day, they go to the dawn. The creature in the mind is still around, and the Wandering asylum still follows it, taking in it's victims, and helping them as best as they can. When people become disenfranchised, forsaken or just tired of their factions, they join the Lost. When this happen in large numbers the faction(s) involved may actively fight the Lost, accusing them of stealing their members; even though most of the time they aren't doing enough to keep their members.

The reason they don't recruit is because of what is known as "the dead dawn". When you get a lot of insane people in one place they generate a very negative psychic presence. This does not occur to the Lost and their charges, but they make up for this in a much worse way. When there are too many around they lose the will to strive, the overwhelming horror of the universe gets to them, and many just give up, retreating inside themselves for the rest of their lives. Oddly enough this only occurs if the overall membership gets too high. the amount of them in a particular place does not matter. Unusually enough it almost always starts with the senior members and works its way down, With the leader being the first to go. They have gotten better at dealing with it, with better medical technology and better-trained psychics and mages, as a result of this they haven't had to deal with a mass dawn in nearly 25 years. Individual cases are still uncommon, with there being a very high recovery rate. Because of this they have let their membership grow slightly, but not too much.

You snuck your own interpretations and sugestions into that, but nothing to bad, i guess it works.

What abaut there being rumors abaut other worlds, ruled by different systems, simmilar (other forums, etc) or ailien (blogs, chats, or other kinds of pages). there would be no actual sing of confirmation of these rumors thou, and only gods and a few wizards know for sure if they are true or false.

No way. The conservation of mass can not be broken.

Physics are VERY different in this place, NONE of the laws of thermodynamics apply, the subatomic scale and electromagnetism works by bending spacetime and is based from the speed of light, meanwhile geography can act both like a particle and a wave, and be in superposition, gravitation is a real mess and works like nothing in the real world. Gravitron replace electromagnetisms place in tech, making "electronics" into "gravitronics" and works by gravity waves being sent through wires of lead. This incidentally means all scifi stuff like humanoid mecha, tractor rays, laser swords, etc. makes sense and become a reasonably efficient solution to problems.
Magic is something else altogether, it comes from the collective e belief of the people, the power of the gods, or ancient arcane rituals and symbolism and pentagrams drawn whit paint that contain fairy dust.

But only few people have the gift. And of those only few get the proper training. And of those only few are actually so powerful they could ever hope to cast spells that beat the Lords own powerful magic.
I think that whit a few expetions evryone shuld TECHNMICALY be able to lern minnor magic, simply whit meditative tecniques and lots of practice you can become good enought at a skill that it actualy bends reality a bit for it to work, this or peaple that has such an ability naturaly is basicaly what extraordinaries are. Magedom shuld require more tallent and much, much more than even that significat amount of dedication, but still is aviable to most intelegent peaple who begin studies erlier and are prepared to work hard.

Seconded, althou they shuldnt be able to get powers higher than board moderator.

Trolls are capable of magic, and naturally have their own special breed of mind affecting magic and potions that even wizards can't mimic exactly.
