Temple of Armok
« on: April 26, 2009, 12:03:17 am »

I'm planning to dedicate a temple to everyone's favourite blood god in my next fortress, and I was wondering what key features it should include.

Currently I have the following:

- Grand Arena, where gladiatorial fights will take place in the name of Armok. Surrounded of course by magma.
- Execution pit for those not fit for glorious death in arena combat. Possibly allow filling bottom with magma depending on crime.
- Champions quarters, royal housing for the Arena champions, as well as an equally opulent series of tombs for champions past.
- Exclusive forge for the legendary armour and weaponsmiths.
- Extensive butchery and meat farm, as the servants of Armok will not settle for any food that was not freshly carved from a slain creature.
- Artifact reliquary, filled with only the finest depictions of Armok's glory in glossy metal, as well as the tools to further carry out his work. Substandard artifacts, especially those of wood and cloth, will require the creator to redeem themselves in arena combat, else their corpse and precious artifact are tossed into the pit.

All other tools and trades will be situated within the servants quarters, outside the temples boundaries.

What other features should be included to make this a true Temple to the Blood god?

A hundred thousand weapon traps loaded with silver whips? Lots of blood, not much damage.

I made a plan, it comes with a dwarven caging area, an execution area, and a place to put your monsters, that can be opened to release all hell on the arena battle field.

I call it the Armok's Monolith, always flowing with water, to smear the blood all over the monument.

Have all the beasts you've amassed by caged in rooms just off the arena fllor, then link a lever to the doors and cages.  release them all when ever a goblin wins.

If this all doesn't fix it, your dwarfs are lazy. Apply magma.
"And thereafter, all dwarven children were taught to mind their stools, lest the toilet-fiends snatch their souls from their bottoms"
Try rubbing a cat on it, that seems to help.

Rivers of blood.

You know how to do this. The carp have shown you how.

If magma's not an option, you could line the bottom with spike traps.

You also need a large statue of Armok or at least his head; not just a single-tile build-it-in-a-workshop thing, but multiple z-levels tall, carved out of the living rock or even better Constructed out of precious metals with gem glass windows for eyes.

Make sure you turn cleaning duties off for every dwarf, so nobody tries to clean up the beautiful red crimson!

I'm envisioning how hardcore it would be to capture Carp and stock an underground pool with them.... then release prisoners into the area around the pool....... Pool of blood. Mmmm...

Text. He's the dvine function responsible for checking an adventurer's option in one of Tarn's old game.

A lot of stuff depends on your Arm being ok ;)
