I'm still up for Traveller after all this time.

By which I mean, I'm up for GMing it.

Okay, so, today this girl I know-Lauren, just took a sudden dis-interest in talking to me. Is she just on her period or something?

Here's a link for you to check out.

Essentially, you usually play the crew of an interstellar trading vessel. It's similar in feel to Firefly.

I'd love to give Traveler a try. Vanilla or Mongoose?

I'm most familiar with Mongoose.

I am also quite willing to try playing traveler, time withstanding of course.

Well, if you are interested, make some characters and post them up here. There's a link in my signature with some examples of characters I have made in the past. In this case, you'll be playing as Free Traders, and not Military Officers, though, so don't feel confined to being a naval officer.

Don't get any skill packages or connection skills yet. We'll do that before we play the game but after we get a full roster of players (I'm looking for 4-7, to round out a nice crew).

I'd like to say here that I'm considering starting a nautically themed D&D campaign.  The players will most likely start at level 5 and be privateers for a kingdom at war.  That's what I've got in my head, although there will likely be plenty of treasure hunting and stuff.

Dungeons and Dragon Turtles

Pinnaces and Privateers

Cogs and Corsairs

Aboleths and Argosies

Schooners and Sahuagin

This sounds great! id be game.

We've already got like 100 players.  You can make a guy, but I can't guarantee he'll get in.

Anyone running a D&D 3.5 game? I could bust out my old Ranger. (Hehehe, Hand crossbow modified to hold alchemical flasks + plus acid + soft flesh= fun)

I haven't played any other D&D than Baldurs Gate and Temple of Elemental Evil also I don't have any books. Is it still possible for me to play? I would be really interested. I always wanted to try pen and paper RPG's but its hard to play by myself  :'(.
Can someone answer? Just Yes or No is fine. BTW I'm interested in any kind of RPG not just D&D.

Seems like there is a lot out there, you just have to ask around.  You could check out http://www.thetangledweb.net/ as well as http://www.myth-weavers.com/forumhome.php.  Also, if you look around the Bay 12 forums, there are various avenues of interest.

If you're into DnD, it couldn't hurt to check out http://www.d20srd.org/ and try to familiarize yourself with the pen and paper rules.  The big difference between cRPGs and their Pen and Paper mothers is that you need to do the thinking and even as a player, you need to have a good idea of what the rules dictate.

I'll see when I have time to make a character for traveler, might be next week though as it's finals week for my summer courses.

I'm little bit confused. I'm not asking to join a game (well at least what I got from your answer). My problem is I don't really know any rules (sure I have rough idea how it all works but that's all) and I don't have any books to fix this (of course I could borrow some but I'd rather not if its avoidable, going through over 9000 pages of rules isn't my idea of fun). So I'm wondering if I still could play? How I'm seeing this is that GM handles rules side of game and I just describe my actions without any real knowledge on mechanics associated with it. Would that be too much bother for GM or is it how it works anyway? I just wanted to get this out of way before I joined game just to be babysitted and generally ruining fun for everyone.
Thanks for your time.

Nobody will want that.

You just need to read a few chapters of D&D. Character Creation and Combat is all you need. The other chapters of lists of things you can use to make your character.

But it's important for both sides to know the rules.
