Showing it off defeats the purpose, like sneaking into a high-security area and then photographing yourself and putting it up on Flickr.

Which _still_ ruins your claim of it being "not a challenge" as the reason to ignore it in such a contest. Did they even say that, or did you just make it up?

In the after-contest interview, the teams said they ignored the Linux system and that it's open-source nature makes it more readily exploitable than Mac OS and Windows.

In any case, I do think we're getting a little off-topic here.

Didn't Toady close that down until he can think of how to restructure it?

Though yeah those kind of discussions probably shouldn't go here.

I guess the long long lag before the next release is making everyone anxious and difficult to stay on topic. Mostly because they have nothing to say.

Heh maybe ThreeToe could write a longer story for us so we can work out the powergoals etc. in it. Which would get us 3 or 4 days of discussion.

Those caverns are pretty cool. Toady's got a nice cavernous thing going on.

There's stil a bit messy and opens, but with a bit of smoothing it will be really great.

I think the messiness is the fact that he has hooked up the old cave generation to these new layers. Which means it's possible surface caves could lead into them already. Which would be pretty awesome if it were true. (I'm pretty sure it's heading there already, but the fact that it may already be done is cool)

I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but formatting the previews as a giant .png sometimes makes it hard to pick out the interesting bits. Is there any chance Toady could put them up at the Dwarf  Fortress Map Archive as well?

Very nice, but there probably be a little more room to build a fortress around them. Also, noticeable grid artifacts show up in a couple spots.

Yeah, there's some wicked grid artifacts in there.  But the interconnection of huge semi-vertical spaces, little rooms, and spaghetti corridors makes it look unnervingly like what I picture as a fantasy cave.

The mass connection does raise the question Toady brought up before.  So whenever the next wall of answers comes around - Any ideas on what to do about mass, psychic revelation of the cave's interior?
