This all begs the question: What if I want to build my dwarf fortress on a giant dwarf?

Kogan: Sorry Urist, you appear to have Elves in yer beard.
Urist: By the gods! How ken we git rid of 'em?
Kogan: Well, that is what makes them so horrible. They only leave if their home is cut down...
 Urist: No! NOOOOOOOOOO!

Small elves in your beard. The STD of the Dwarven world.

What about building a fortress inside/on top of a giant giant flying eagle!?  :o You'd only be able to trade by building a depot on the ground and pushing your broker off the eagle's back. (dwarven airlines!)  ;D

Then I'd need to add 'turtle' to my site finder requirements.

Giggle.

Hey, what about digging too deep in the turtle?

There would be a heart, with aeortas, which act like floodgates, letting blood to various parts of the body. Then, it is only a matter of time when the player cut's off it's blood supply to the happy place to prevent mating season... *Shiver*

Just think how embarrissing it would be to have your fortress on a giant turrtle making love for a couple of years?

Captain: I knew we should have cut the blood supply!
Urist: Captain, the turtles are starting up again!
Turtles: RAWRRRRRR
*Captain and Urist fall over*
Captain: Pull the damn lever!

That... Sounds like a perfect site for a Dark Tower.

Ooh, what if the giant turtle sits in prolonged proximity to pitchblende?

I'd love to recreate Gamera, except with an elven retreat getting roasted.

It will enable the addition of Really Giant Toads.  He will be drawn to this like a dwarf to a sock.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

This idea is fantastic. Imagine one of these walking along towards your fortress, leaving quivering craters in its titanic footsteps! That is what megabeasts should be.

Also, rig up a fifth elephant to blow the whole thing up. Make it out of gold for bonus points.

They didn't call them Fat Mines for nothing, you know.

Now THAT is something already in reach. I so TOTALLY know how to mod in fat deposits with the BCB nugget. Heck, I'm already halfway there if we use dinosaur fat, I already have the bones and shells and skulls. BCBs and Fat Deposits are easy.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.

I think you've hit on something, there. No animals currently affect the terrain (if you don't count lighting it on fire). Giant footfalls creating craters would be awesome. Also - knocking down trees.

A giant world destroying Dwarf-Monster should not be stopped by puny

Even better than a giant dwarf: A giant dwarf made of normal dwarves.

We should be able to do this with the next version.

We really shouldn't, but we should.
