So what do you guys think of the new gods in Trunk? The Memories one seems really cool, and I like the idea of a single powerful companion god (as opposed to Beogh's ZERG RUSH thing), though I worry it might be too powerful. The Dancing one...Mh. I like the IDEA, but you're basically always going to have 1 or 0 stars of piety when you start a fight and while it builds fast, if you're 'dancing' long enough to get farther than 2 stars it seems like all too often you'd already be on the run.

I've been playing with Hepl (...Yeah, I'll be typoing Help for a while...) in |||||||||||||| and quite like the feel. The free Englaciation from the Hexer path is nice, and it helps you when you're running away from stuff through hallways too.

Haven't seen the dancing one yet. Guess I'll have to pull up a new game in normal trunk now!

Basically, an aggressive melee god who encourages prolonged fights. Piety saps super quick, but you also gain it very quickly by harming enemies. Off the top of my head, you get the power to 'stomp' (Damage based on piety and invocations to all adjacent tiles), dance through a line of enemies (Warp through a straight row of enemies a la passwall, confusing them on the way for a duration based on their HD and invocations IIRC), and an automatic solo that happens based on gained piety (Either paralyzes or puts enemies to sleep, I forget which, letting you raise hell for a few turns). Wrath gives the enemies a solo on occasion and berserks enemies.

With Ukayaw (the dancing god), if for some godawful reason you've been meleeing someone or someones long enough to get up to 6* without dying, you get a power which instakills... I think anything in the game. I'm pretty sure it's not resistible.

Just got it. It puts them to sleep. I guess that says something a lot about how well a minotaur with 11dex dances. Maybe a naga with 30dex will get mesmerize or something instead? =D

25ish% chance of an instagib at max piety and 4.8 invocations. Not bad. It didn't give any message about having to overcome resistance, so this could be very potent, especially with my amulet of faith. That you can even freely swap on and off, since this guy's piety doesn't matter, out of combat!

I like this god, conceptually. Its effects are all useful in different situations: Stomp for being surrounded; Line Dance in hallways, or as an escape to the far side of them; Merge for 1v1 tougher mobs, and it has a passive sleep effect which is useful all around. With an amulet of faith and amulet of the gourmand, you can use this skills VERY often.

I sort of feel that stomp should propagate out through the mob, hitting an entire contiguous group, not just your immediate surroundings though; you're basically disrupting the beat for the entire group. Also, since dance tends to involve footwork, it should also decrease the chances of unsteady footing in shallow water.

Edit: That pain bond thing is kind of super powerful; I just killed five things in a single strike. Target something with a low EV, watch everything else crumble around you. Stomp is still kind of suck.

Wups, lagged on V:5 and accidentally walked up and back down the stairs to my doom. Pity; I was just about done with the main area too. Merged with two gold dragons-- I actually killed something with an exploded chunk. XD

Tentative verdict? Better in combat than Oka, especially against groups (SO want to see what an executioner's axe of freezing does to an army with pain bond active...) but doesn't keep hurling equipment at you.

Sounds interesting. As for Beogh ZERG RUSH - its inevitable in the middle stages of the game, since you have much more orcs than you need. Normally, Depths cull weaklings and leave you with a several VERY strong companions (preferably warlords, since summoning gets in the way too much). I was able to conquer four Hells with six warlords, losing two in the process (in 0.16). It was fun, but required good control over situation. Barring repeated torments, leveled warlords have twice as much HP as you.

Ahh, I never did get past Lair with a Beogh follower. I just remember ~75% of my screen being allied followers at one point really :P

I doubt it. Worst case scenario, jot down what you have, enter wizmode when seeing a wiz ghost, and destroy it with your new god-like powers, then revert :P

Couldn't you? Huh. Well, in any case you can reset your things and not use wizmode powers.
Presumably you aren't doing this for score or bragging rights, anyways, since you evidently aren't playing online.

How does one get that many followers and not get past lair? I ... well, I never managed to get a single follower with Beogh anyway, in all the three or four times I played him. I would think that with that much meat to shield you, nothing in lair would stand a chance.

Most orcs are really pathetic. Death yaks or hydras go through them like a lightsaber through swiss cheese. So you'll probably be fighting on the front lines, since Hill Orcs are good meleers. So if you get to low health, swap with an orc to get away and then get hit by something anyways, you're still dead.

Ah. So it would be wise, then, not to rely on followers for anything, and act as if you are alone. I don't know how well I would do without Oka's buffs, but it seems still manageable. Maybe i'll try a few HOFi of Beogh, to see if I can at least get a few followers and get through lair.

Beogh is a pain in the ass. I like the idea of having a bunch of orcs, I hate micromanaging them. If you aren't carefully nurturing your dudes in every battle then it takes forever to get warlords. I've never gotten a priest or wizard to survive for very long. I'd just leave my guys on a safe z-level, recall the non-squishies (strongest orcs are recalled first, cancel it before recruits come), and kill to give them exp.

I also felt like I needed to hoard a bunch of shit to gift my followers. Oh another branded axe, let me just.. drop this situational scroll to carry it back to my stash later. And in the depths and onwards my orcs were essentially useless. I had 5 or 6 warlords and some wimpy priests that had never seen battle. I only called them in when I needed help with a fight, and then it was mostly a 1 shot thing. Half of them would die, I'd come out alive with/without having killed the enemy (and having possibly retreated up stairs and recalling the survivors), and I'd have half as many left for my next moment of need. So yeah I guess they MIGHT have saved my character in a battle or two, but it felt pointless. All of that hand-holding and loot-whoring. Was it worth it? The entire game I've been retreating up stairs and recalling my dudes specifically to keep them alive so they can wreck in the future and this is what it amounts to.

I know you don't have to do these things when worshiping Beogh, I just felt obligated to. I wouldn't have chosen Beogh for any other reason. So it's my fault on all fronts, but it's why I don't play with Beogh anymore. Orcs are shit. Maybe good for a 3-rune win, but otherwise no. You can't recall injured orcs to a safe z-level in hell, pand, or the abyss. You can't realistically keep them alive through any of those either. Use them in emergencies? Okay, you lose your entire run's worth of orcs for one fuck up. At least you can smite the tormentor once or twice before dying.
