Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup. Or: THAT DAMN SIGMUND.

Dungeon Crawl thread? Dungeon Crawl thread.

Here is the official website, where you can download the latest version. And here is the Wiki, although it's very barebones considering just how much can possibly go wrong in the game. Fun fact: the version with graphics (and the immensely helpful mouse-over tips and everything) is the tiles version. A lot of people miss that.

Anyway, been playing Stone Soup for a week or so now, and have managed to make it aaaaall the way to lvl5, where I was immediately killed by a flame-throwing centaur that chased me down from lvl4. Thus ended the promising career of Smellyfoofers the Demonspawn Assassin, pictured above all young and naive on lvl1.

Apart from that, highest ranking ghost I've managed to create was a Merfolk Crusader, which actually managed to two-shot Sigmund before falling to an Ice Beast. I have to say, Dungeon Crawl is, despite the brutal... well, brutality of it all, probably one of the most accessible rougelikes out there. Hell, it even has a decent Tutorial mode.

So, let's get Crawlin'!

Sigmund is a piece of cake when you're a vampire necromancer. Actually, most things are.

It was. It's been almost a year (to the day) since that topic has been posted in, and I'd rather start a fresh topic for new conversations rather than raise that one from the dead. I'd say a year of inactivity is enough for another thread on the topic, wouldn't you say?

So it has. Apologies, then. Maybe this inability to pay attention to small details like that is the reason why I suck so bad at roguelikes  :-X

Sigmund is nothing, try fighting a nine-headed hydra.

I tend to run into them alot, and if you don't know, every time you cut off a head it grows two more.
So I end up fighting something that hits me twelve times a turn.

Stop cutting it?

I have already used all my wands on it by then.

Assassins in general can usually kill Sigmund effortlessly, thanks to the curare tipped needles.

Also, anyone who hasn't made an orc army yet should really try it.

Is Sigmund always the same? Because... most of the time I kick his ass like he's a plain rat.

The problem are orc wizards and named mobs that have spells/wands of invisibility when you dont have any "see invisble" stuff. Or when they got some ubar pwnage wands of draining/disintegration assigned.

But other than that... whats the friggin sigmund hype all about? you can pwn him with a halfling healer, and thats pretty much the weakest class I ever played  ;D

Sigmund's usually the first unique the average player comes across, and especially if you've only played a few times, can quite easily dominate you if you're not ready and expecting him. He's got the most kills for a unique monster on the online Crawl stats, so there's the maths backing it up.

Just had my most successful character ever. Made it all the way to D7 and racked up nearly a 100 kills on the way, before being mobbed by a tribe of Orcs.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I just know the next most successful character I roll will be murdered by his ghost  ::)
