Bones files in Crawl are just the ghost, not the rest of the level around them.

I had never noticed. You learn something new every day.

Gah! Had a squishy Deep Elf Conjurer. Cleared Orc and Elf:1, and was looking for the entrance to the Lair. (Already passed the Hive, but no r-poison). It must have been a deep entrance. D:10 or so. Hill Giant and a Hungry Ghost. Mephi the giant, and I know the new mephi won't last long, and I blast the hungry ghost. My MP is low, so I back down the hallway and get a 5 headed hydra around a corner. D'Oh. Worse yet this was one of the poorest dungeon gens I ever got for scrolls, shops, and artifacts. I had a blink scroll but no place to go, and no teleport. (Literally 2 or 3 scrolls of tele up to this point.) Pinned and dead.

Worse yet, one day I'm going to draw a D:10 with a Hydra, Hill Giant, and very angry and blasty Player ghost. No, I'm not going to delete the bones file.

Bones files in Crawl are just the ghost, not the rest of the level around them.

You should know the RNG god WILL do that anyway, just to screw with him.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

The Lorax would of fared much better if he was using THIS:

Particularly because I've got a +3 shield of resistance.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

There was nothing... I could do...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My biggest mistake was going too deep in the dungeon and losing my orc sorcerer follower on floor 19. I took on elf after that despite not really feeling ready because I didn't have any viable poison resistance. I was doing okay anyway until I got dumped in the abyss, at which point the above statement came into effect.

Condensation shield... is it worth getting it for a squishy wizard? I could really stand another defense boost, and being able to train up shields while still using my lajatangs would be great... but I'unno how effective the spell is, having never used it. Character's way too far into the game to be experimenting, too :(

I think in the long term spellcasters, if you get them to survive

My best characters have all been melee with strong enchantment and support magic.  I also find shield-users to be much more survivable than two-hand weapon users, but that tends to make the spellcasting part much harder to manage.

Spell casters are by far the most powerful of the two. Why else would the developers constantly nerf spell casting? Powerful spell casters can kill 10-20 monsters at once, which makes clearing a ziggurat doable. Fighters have to rely on the most broken god in the game in order to survive in a ziggurat.

My best characters have been spriggan caster-fighters of Nemelex. More fighting than casting, with the spriggan food issues.

Who's the most broken god?  TSO?  I have never done very well with pure casters, and have no experience with Ziggurats myself, but some of those high level spells look amazing.

I think it's the card god that is the most broken.
