Hm. I searched on the wiki but didn't find anything. Anyway, it's probably useless at the moment since I have 0 evocations.

Okay, what the hell. My lil' offline MDFi trundles his way through to D:5 (the first of about six to make it this far), handily fending off the orcs and giant frogs that consist of the worst of my foes.

THEN! Shop! Black bear. Ice beast, which escapes. Another shop! Ogre. Blork the bloody Orc. Ice Beast comes back! Third shop! Gold Dragon Armor (That I can't really use until I hit armor 18, but still!)! CENTAUR WITH DISPERSAL ARROWS! Ijyb! Another Ice Beast, with a scorpian friend! The fourth shop! The third Ice Beast! GNOLLS!!

What the christ, RNG? What is this madness!? It's like you saved up all the "Let's screw with the player" for the last five levels and then dumped it on me!

...

I killed them all, though. Kinda' ridiculous for a 7th level fighter.

Not in the least. I didn't even use a healing potion, just beat on them with my piddly little +2,+4 hammer. I was seriously surprised to have my little dwarf dude live to get to see the 'done exploring' message!

EDIT: Next level, I kill off Edmund, netting a +7, +2 Flail of Protection. I can't figure out if the RNG loves this guy or hates him. Maybe pulling a Xom and doing both.

And now a crossbow! Aiee! Breaking for a while after that. This puny little 8th level fighter has better defensive stats than my tourney's 25th level wizard.

Got my first rune. I think I seriously overestimated the difficulty of Swamp:5. I found Wayne on Swamp:3, and he was more of a threat than anything on the bottom level. That said, I did manage to burn through most of my wands (that's what I get for neglecting short blades). Guardian spirit + Makhleb is lulzy.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm probably going to attempt to delay the matter of getting past Mara, Boris and Roka on D:20 for as long as possible.

I am playing as a flame wizard or whatever it's called, and I come across Sigmund,I had a mace of protection, ring of regeneration and an amulet of rage so I though "hey why don't I engage Sigmund in toe to toe combat?what could possibly go wrong?" and guess what?nothing went wrong at all.

Sigmund's main strength is that he can throw things like confusion and invisibility at you when it's too early in the game for you to have found a counter. If you've gotten lucky in terms of gear, or have picked a strong species/background combination, then sure, he's not bad.

Edmund is MUCH deadlier,he can have insane amounts of enchantments and he can appear a few levels after Sigmund

It's good even without necro to exploit the pain brand.

Dunno if it'll be better than a +4 speed lajatang without the Necromancy boost. I think I have a book with Fulsome Distillation and perhaps a few other things in it... if I somehow get confident enough later on to make an attempt at Slime, I might just have to do that.

Also, cleared Shoals.

Easiest/furthest I've ever gotten was the orcish mines (cleared) and D7 or so after Sokoban with a Troll Berserker, lucky enough to kill another troll and get the skin (massive regen bonuses). First time I cleared the mines, though, I met a statue that caused me to lose my Intelligence stats (and Troll/Berserker doesn't start with much to begin with) and I didn't notice it, too busy wailing away at the statue... until I get a message along the lines of "you became so stupid you forgot to keep breathing and died."

I fell in love with that game ever since.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.
