Horrible Things is supposedly really good. I'm not fond of Ugly Thing based on my wizmode testing. It seems to make one ugly thing most of the time, occasionally two, and rarely one or two very ugly things. Regular ugly things are weak (for the amount of mana you spend), but very ugly things are pretty good. One VUT could probably kill 3 or 4 blink frogs, easy. One UT would kill 2 if it got lucky and might not even kill one.

I haven't checked out Shadow Creatures or Haunt, so I dunno. Haunt is smite-targeted, though, so it's good even if you've already got a ton of summons.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

I remember dicking around with Haunt when I was running those god tests.

Now, mind you, I had rather high levels in spellcasting and necromancy, so my opinion isn't completely unbiased, but...

Haunt is fracking EPIC.  Spawning 6-8 spectral warriors in a go for "spare change" mana is just badass.  I also ended up with an assortment of ghosts, wraiths, and you-name-it ethereals, all fairly high level.

Again, I stress that this was with very high levels in spellcasting and necromancy (it WAS wizard mode, after all).  Also, this was in the trunk version of .6, not the release version.  Some things may have been tweaked.

However, I was wandering the halls of pandemonium using that spell almost exclusively...  And it sodding well worked.

Shadow creatures is entirely dependent on what's on the level. If your on a level with just blink frogs, you'll get blink frogs. If there are orcs, you'll get orcs. Ancient Lich, you'll get Ancient Lich's. In whatever porportion they are on the stage.

Haunt is useful if you have something over THERE that you want to keep distracted over THERE. As Mr. said, its smite based, so you summon them on top of the mob you target. Quite useful. Not sure on the power due to wizard testing at "reasonable" levels, but at worst you get a few mobs on top of the guy you want distracted, instead of around you. A butterfly cast after that will provide a very nice wall.

I read on the wiki that speed is by far the best branding...

Speed is great, except its on a short sword which he has no training in, and is a slashing weapon, so he would need a backup anyway. I say Ax, but even if you do switch, keep the Ax to throw.

That depends on your skills, stats, and race.

Just try to avoid the hydras then.
I wanted to see the result of fighting a hydra with a cutting weapon, so i turned the wizard mode.
Result : Hydra with 20 heads :D (seems it is the maximum it will grow, but in real gameplay you'll never see that because your character will be dead already at +/- 10 heads, in real gameplay the max i saw was 8 before understanding that fighting it with my axe was a bad idea when my character died).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I finally have a game where I beat Crazy Yuif, and get a +2,+3 Chaos staff. (compared to my +2,+2 trident).
Then I find out its a bones level, and have a close call with my ghost...who happened to be a wizard. I beat him over the head with my staff until he dies.

Then I meet the first orc priest of the game, who takes all but 1 of my health in a single hit. As I turn to run around the corner, a rat kills me. :( I flipping hate orcs.

I forgot to mention, that game I had just beat Jessica, followed by Terrance.
I was a Merfolk Death Knight, so I beat a giant cockroach, then revived it to kill Jessica. I had to beat up Terrance right after that without any Undead baddies though.

GAH! CURSE YOU ORCS!

and orcs come in at least groups of 3, plus some of their hard-as-heck special units.

Yes, the priests are the only horribleness I've seen so far, but without their buddies I'd destroy them!

Mages aren't quite as bad, especially for summoners seeing as they have trouble shooting you through spammal swarms. Priests don't have to use linear targeting, so no matter how many creatures are beating the shnot out of him he can still hit you. I only attack priests when I can catch them alone and then rush them with snakes, scorpions, and imps. Works well enough.
