Hm. Just caught LG S02E01, and I'm moderately pleased with it. It's good to see that they can manage the same sort of interesting content and teasing without a glacial pace, and I got all sorts of laughs from the confused comments of people who didn't understand the brief timeskip scenes, even when they included blatant temporal markers.

Also finally got around to starting Aldnoah Zero, and it's living up to what I've heard thusfar --

though I'm a tiny bit concerned about the whole "only the MC figured out the obvious exploit in the enemy mech while the actual military, including the vet that fought these guys before and lived, act like suicidal extras who keep trying things that obviously don't work" thing. I mean, shit, the issue with shields that absorb solid matter should have been obvious even if you've never thought about it before and are sort of panicking, and even if you didn't figure it out, you'd still get the same result if you just pulled back and spotted for indirect-fire strikes from naval assets or land-based artillery.

For that matter, why do the total military forces dedicated to repelling an invasion of Earth seem to consist of strike groups of <12 ASFs and fireteams of <6 mechs?

Bah, I'll set that aside, since the premise is still decent, and a lot of that can be semi-believably handwaved as shock, arrogance, or ignorance. I am interested to see how the macro-scale political situation develops, given that the aggressors are both highly internally factionalized and not actually part of the Martian empire so much as a group of splintered states which still superficially pledge fealty to it.

And why the fuck is it an empire? What about "Settle Mars despite having no effective terraforming technology, find ancient alien stash of goodies" suggests "Regress to imperial model of government". I could have bought almost anything -- including a less centralized sort of feudalism -- as a more realistic alternative, but apparently we gotta have an empire to be the evil bad guys, despite the "imperial" forces being a bunch of what are essentially pirates with delusions of grandeur. Was it only done for the sake of the fabricated Dead Princess casus belli? For the sake of an easily predictable romance subplot?

Hell, when the princess hopped out of the APC to confront that first mech (yeah, I get that she didn't know he was trying to get her killed), why did he just stand there instead of 'accidentally' hitting her or some shit?

On a lighter note, y'know what would have been an effective weapon against that first mech? Ball bearings. Tens or hundreds of thousands of them around the size of a billiard ball, scattered in its way. If that thing falls, it sure as hell isn't getting back up, just digging itself deeper. Not necessarily practical in the short term, but a highly amusing image.

Wait, wait a minute, how the fuck was it being carried by that airlifter in the first place if it's covered in matter-eating around? I can buy some sort of BS magnetic suspension field or no-grav room on their spaceship, but what the hell? And if the answer is "they can turn the shield off", why the hell didn't he do that once he fell in the water? Sure, you don't have your hax shield any more, but you can still slap that fucker around.

Bah, I need to stop now.

On a whim I watched this old anime called Mad Bull, it's an action-comedy about New York cops and holy shit I really like this somehow. There's lots of killing, a guy literally gets his head blown off in the first two minutes, and the show isn't shy at all about it's explicit content. There's always stuff happening, all the bad guys are completely evil and they all have guns (and the good guys aren't so good either), and the dubbing is so over the top it's fantastic, reminds me a lot of Ghost Stories.

It's got this weird mix of stark reality and pulp novel action (the main character cops kill people and no one bats an eye) that I really love. It's also extremely lewd, there's few moments where someone isn't naked, sex isn't happening, or being talked about. It's really hard to describe what's good about the show without it making it sound incredibly shallow, but it really really isn't. Or I'm just crazy. :v

In the actual OP for the OVA, while that song is playing there's slow flames going on the whole time. One of the most epic things I've ever seen. It makes me want to try doing another pilot portrait.

Anyway, Maincharacter is kinda weird, can copy ANY technique he sees, not perfectly or anything, heck other then his copied skills the only thing he knows how to do is run, using one of those super running/jumping kungfu skills...
But the ONE THING that keeps happening is that whenever he goes unconscious from a large amount of damage that would put normal people into comas or deathbeds, people keep trying to kill him with attacks that require physical contact. Why is this bad. CAUSE HE CAN SUCK THE KI OUT OF YOU AND HEAL HIMSELF WITH IT..... Gah, someone send the badguys a memo, stop touching him ffs...
