I've got several engravings of insane elven merchants killing each other because I dumped the trade depot into a pit one day and never remembered to let them out again.  Ooops.   8)

It wasn't in a fort, but I did once come across an engraving in a human temple called "The Simple Terrors" - it was an engraving of prickle berries.

I just found this: Engraved is a masterful Sarvesh Datanlisid rendition of a masterfully designed image of a dwarf. The image is the symbol of The Stockade of Circling, a local dwarven government.

The Stockade of Circling is my little fort, so I guess it means the symbol of the place is a masterfully designed image of a dwarf. I wonder if it was picked from something one of my engravers made, or if the symbols are pregenned. Anyway, recursiveness for the win.

Also, my engravers really likes to engrave pictures of cougars I think it was, battling dwarves. I've found dozens of pictures relating to 3 different cougar hunts, 5 of them being of the cougar tearing a ear of the hunter.

Hi!

Sorry, but the symbols are chosen right at the beginning. Actually, I think my current fortress also has a cool combination - I will check on the details and come back later.

It means, if you know that the engravings might be botched - savescum. I've done that few times so there won't be any circles or clouds in my fort's library :P

The same guy who engraved that, made another engraving with the exact same name and the same motif. "The Coincidence of Salves" they are both named. He really likes that image. Obok Odzon has made the exact same image too. Same name and all.  Okay, found the third engraving of the same thing on the same wall (in my dining room), this one a Zefon Vabokfoker piece. Four... on the same bloody wall.

Oh, this one was pretty good:

Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of dwarves by Sarvesh Datanlisid. The dwarves are laboring. The artwork relates to the foundation of Birdskeys by the Stockade of Circling of The Steel of Geniuses in the early spring of 201.

The name of it? The Dimples of Hating

Another engraving the founding of Birdskeys is called "The Pregnant Prince", I don't think my dwarves like that place.

Hi!

As promised/warned, the details of my fortress:

Quote
Engraved is a Iteb Tolisingish rendition of a well-designed image of two traction benches. The image is the symbol of The Vestibule of Teeth, a local dwarven government.

Note that I treat my dwarves as good as I can, so I don't know where they got that idea from. The civ has a shirt for their symbol and a name with something along the lines of Fancying.

And since I was researching my engravings, I want to give an impression of what half my engravings look like:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The above are just a few examples, I got tons of 'S' (various sasquatches) and 'H' (that forest titan) engravings as well as some 'T' (various giant tigers), all with different tales. You see, I try to have very large forest regions where elves and humans can fight many wars. In that regard, these are indeed Fortunate Jungles as I rarely see any human - elf combat depicted. But if you side with the dwarves and humans venturing into that forest area ...

Well, I am quite pleased with this spot and its history :) :) :)

Engraved on the wall is a superiorly designed image of Snodub Portaljackets the dwarf and Lokum Roughlured the Glum Death of Friends the dwarf by Bomrek Saluashrir. Lokum Roughlured the Glum Death of Friends is shooting Snodub Portaljackets.

I presume Snodub was once a "friend" of Lokum's...

Still, it's better than my last fort, where everyone was obsessed with Kem Thinminds the human, who apparently tamed giant eagles and went on several adventures. 60% of early statuary and engraving was of Kem doing something heroic. I presume there were also Kem Thinminds action figures, Kem Thinminds lunchboxes, and the lot. Sadly, the Kem-obsessed fort all had their heads bitten off by a giant skeletal eagle. Kem did not appear to tame it.

Engraved on the wall is a superiorly designed image of Emtha WindDens the Lion of Apes the Brush Titan and [Insert every god damn hero on the plains since year 1] the [just about all of them were human] by 'Carver' UristSacat (There's a joke in that name somewhere.). Emtha WindDens the Lion of Apes is burning [Person]. This engraving relates to the burning of [Person] in [Year] by Emtha WindDens the blah blah blah with his fire breath.

Or something to that extent. I've only gotten one repeat so far. I'm not looking forward to my Titan attack at population 80.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

I had an engraver with a profound appreciation for cave wheat.  I had him engrave a tomb and a good 80% of the engravings were of cave wheat; you had masterfully engraved cave wheat and masterful renditions of images of cave wheat...nobody's symbol or anything, just cave wheat.

Inexplicably, he preferred to consume dwarven wine.  Maybe he just really liked dwarven flour...

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.

A forgotten thread has arrived!

"Engraved on the wall is a superiorly designed image of goblins and elves by Oddom Onolaran. The goblins are fighting with the elves. The artwork relates to the attack by The Square Nightmare on The Flowery Leaves in The Lurid Fields in the early spring of 91 during Ustrok Ngukak, 'The Battle of Rape'"

My theory is that he was high when he engraved this. Seriously, why would you engrave bats on the wall. Maybe the bats gave him the grass, or so he thinks...
Smoking bat dung does that for you..

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

In one of my early forts my engraver kept drawing a particular titan. I assumed she just felt it was necessary to chronicle the lives of the important creatures of the area.
Then I came across this:

I think I broke something, because the first engraving I made in my Fortress is thus:

Okom Lubam, "The Bolt of Polish"
Engraved on the wall is an axceptionally designed image of the donkey and a leopard leather bag by Dalgin. Is raising the leopard leather  bag. The artwork relates to the theft of a leopard leather bag from Kigidithlalmin by the donkey in early winter of 101.

Yep, pretty sure that's a merchant's donkey depicted there.
