Second: I currently have no companions because on my first character they were constantly dying and I couldn't keep up with paying to bring them back. That's annoying. :/
How/where would I go about getting pets who can actually survive as well (or better) than I can?

The slave trader in Derphy sells some good pets. The wiki has a list of slaves with all their skills and stats.

I always take luck, it goes well with my real life above average luck.

Mewmewmew!

Meeeeww!!

I always take Exorcist myself now, (or whatever the name of that one was)...  Keeps you from suffering bad dreams.  I've NEVER had the curse dream affect me, though I've dodged it three times on my best character.  Very satisfying.

I want to summon Ehekatl very badly, now.

Torak what lvl and class are you? No matter what level I am I've never gotten to a point where I still don't have to worry about a random OMGWTF shot from a kobold..... or hermit crab.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

I'm curious of that as well. Who/what is this Brill? When he was first mentioned, I thought it was a material of some sort to be honest.

Trading oracle scrolls and whatnot to Adventurers is the best way to get kick-ass gear

Mostly because unlike everyone else... Trading with Adventurers always seems to use the full price.

As a suggestion ALWAYS get Negotiation when you get the chance. Selling objects, buying, and identification is rediculously expencive without it. (though I am sure everyone here knows that)

The worst part of my character right now is he has Rank 2 Regeneration prevention.

Hmm I got a "Swarm" Ability... I better check what that is

Ok I SWEAR I always bump into those road pirates everytime I earn a bunch of cash... gone from 30,000 back to 10,000

About the road bandits, I've been thinking it's because of the travellers' rations I carry all the time.  I'm thinking I need to stop carrying those.  Although I have successfully run from them on occasion.

The proper response is to say "Try me." and then use your rod of teleportation for a swift get-away.

I am starting to hate the game so much.

It is just starting to turn into a game of "Hey, Lets see how far you can get until you cannot catch up anymore"

I lost some equipment which I could EASILY get back... if it wasn't for the fact that there is an enemy who spawned on that level...

Unfortunately it takes equipment to get the equipment back.

Well its time to do this all over again... All new equipment... again... *sigh*

I still can't heal because of the mutation... (which Id rather have stat decrease)

Yay now a combo of deaths leave me too poor to pay bills! and I can't get more income to pay bills until I get a museum which takes 130k.

So I hear people say that levelling up makes monsters into bigger threats, which really bites IMO.

And I hear people say that gaining fame is dangerous too, presumably for the same reasons.

Also, performing is very very difficult.

So what IS a safe way to just wander around and chill out while stashing money in kitty banks?  Raid dungeons using only your pets to kill things, perhaps?

Just do delivery and escort quests, and fail every "Party time!" and "Harvest time" quest you see to offset the fame.

If by half you mean >10%, yes.
