Oh how did I miss this!

This game is so much better than sid meyer's railroads. I can actually control which way the trains go! :D

So, anyone around here played OpenTTD lately? Any thoughts on the new version?

i will have to get into this game sometime soon and join up. i remember having massive train systems. 22 lane train stations feeding goods producing factories, 3-4 engine trains with screen spanning loads. i think my rule of thumb was 1 engine per 8 cars. I got lax after 4 engines though.

i had one friend who decided she would use only boats. she was new to the game so i scoffed. "boats are too expensive and make too little money too slowly. it'll never work."

we played for a long time and my train based empire remained well ahead of her boat based empire. later on however her income steadily increased until it passed my own. I guess its because of the relative ease of adding new ship routes compared to building new railway routes?

Oh that info is OLD.

If I were to host (I have a Linux box I might be able to configure to the task) it would not require Hamachi to join.
