Status: Not dead.
Secondary status: Heavily shaped internet.

Did you know the internet is not built for dialup anymore?  :(

Anyway, I've been busy this past week, and indeed for some time, but I have a pretty serious break in my workload coming up, which is what I need for this.
Basically, I'm looking at the end of the story coming very very very soon. Which means lots of painstaking prep work to make the biggest battle ever, via hacking."

Ah it's cool. I don't think anyone here really feels anything but excitement for the long coming updates.

Mayday, how is you FPS doing? If it's at the level I suspect, (single digits) then you should lower your g-fps cap in the init.txt to improve it. Blockedlance was running at single digits, and when Mr. Gimp lowered the g-fps cap he started getting into the 40-50 range.

I play TF2 on dialup.

Oh Shi-! How does THAT work?

Also, Nist Akath is starting to have an update schedule similar to Dwarf Fortress! The only difference is DF will never be complete.

I find sentencing some other, random, appliance to some un-plugged time and a good hammering keeps those appliances in line and not ignoring my mandates.

In any case, having a ceiling fall on you is not fun. Nor is falling through one, plummeting a few stories. Note to self: Sand can still be hard.

I  am yet another who signed up for an account just to tell Captain Mayday how awesome he is. However, I don't think that that is dwarvenly possible. I will instead say that I sat down and read this with minor interruption over a two day period.

Holy. Crap.

Captain is the god of epic.

I cannot wait for the end.

The Journal of Mayor Lokum Lerommeng, 10th of Obsidian, 1090
I must say, the dwarves of this fortress work very well! I doubt any other fortress could have thrown up such a magnificent ballroom within the timeframe they seem to have.

I also had them pave the bottom of the watergarden for good measure, since it'd be nice to have it filled with water during events. I pulled the lever myself and watched the water rush forth!

Pardon, but did you mean to post two identical screens here?

Turn voice off, and it works rather well.  An FPS doesnt really need that much bandwidth for gameplay.  Voice chat, however, does.

Lies. Believe me, FPSs can lag. My computer has no problem in single player (which, yes, is definitely more processing power). But I still lag a ton playing BF2.

Maybe my so-called high speed cable throttles game bandwidth so old people can download their porn faster. It's not the servers, I only go on ones I read a low ping with.

Speaking of which, maybe sometime I should compare the actual bandwidth usage I'm getting in BF2 with that of downloading porn. Anyone know how to do that? ...actually, no. Now we're REALLY off topic.

So HOW IS THE CAPTAIN DOING GOOD SIR?

Only FPS I ever tried to play on dialup was Quake. (Yes, the first one). I had a ping time of two seconds. I never saw anyone, but still died a lot. I'd spawn, they'd shoot me, two seconds later I'd find out about it and explode, never having been able to leave the spawn point. 'twas awesome.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.
