I did that in Blade of Darkness. And Rune.  :)

Much less fun in BoD though, the limbs barely have a damage bonus...

I loved thwacking people with giblets in Rune.  I used it almost exclusively early on, when you're fighting those tubeworm-thingies.  I'd cut the tongue off of one, and then use that to cut the tongue off another, and then use that tongue, and then the next one, and the next one...

And there's nothing quite like killing something by throwing a still-bleeding head at it.

In other words, not fun for you.  But, yeah, I like my games to be challenging but I've been known to use exploits now and again.

Hahaha, I like the parallel you made between roleplay games and playing with Barbie dolls.

I have a simple solution.  Imagination.  Rocks become sling stones(I know it says "Small Chert Rock", but small is a relative term, a slingstone is about the size of a softball and could easily crack a skull), coins could be shuriken, arrows/bolts darts.  An ASCII game needs a lot of imagination, it can't hurt to add some more.

There's a fine line between imagination and delusion.

You're playing a game with carp that could tear a fantasy creature in half, with inexplicably named towns, and stackable kittens.  How much more delusion do you need before you realize that nothing is true, everything is permitted, and combat is beautiful but repetitive?

Well, one could explain coins by size. For instance, the Russian ruble came from the word "to cut", because when the term originated coins were fairly large metal discs\squares that would literally be cut into smaller segments during trading. Throwing a palm sized jagged chunk of metal makes more sense than the contemporary nickel we're all probably thinking of.

Still, that suspension of disbelief aside, throwing is obviously not balanced and I challenge anyone to explain how throwing live flies will make a hydras chest explode and propel it backwards an undetermined but substantial distance.

Fly is coated in nitroglycerin.

I honestly could not make the connection between that and the post you were commenting on.  Either I personally don't believe the difference is a fine line, or that adding a little bit more pretend to an already pretend world to make it better because you know it's a little bit broken is so dangerous.  Or it's a joke.  Or maybe I totally missed your intention entirely.

Hey Torak, how about you shut the fuck up and try letting people enjoy the video game instead of being a pompous roleplaying faggot?

Throughout the course of this thread you've shown that you not only do not understand the nature of the word "fun", you don't understand the English language, you don't understand the game of Dwarf Fortress and you don't understand how to be a member of a forum community, so I would highly recommend that you just shut the fuck up and go back to 4chan or somethingawful or whatever gang of 14 year old e-thugs you came from and take your haughty sense of self importance and utmost douchebaggery with you.

While I do agree with you somewhat Valcon, I believe that could have been said with considerably less harsh words. Do try to be civil, people.

Whether valcon is right or not, it's not worth disrupting the peace and making more headache for Toady.
