June 1, 1996 - Six Years Later

The Cold War is threatening to heat up more as even the war meter has dipped past hot war despite the fact the United States and the Soviet Union have not yet entered into a declared war nor took any direct military action against one another. It is only a matter of time however before this happens and I question whether or not we can make it into the next century and millennium before a direct military or even nuclear confrontation begins. Communist forces have begun a full-scale invasion of Chile the only remaining Developing Capitalist country in South America - due to the non-alignment of all Developing Capitalist countries since the start of 1996, the United States is technically not obligated to defend Chile which has now become a bad guy regime with Pinochet having reestablished his dictatorship following the KGB assassination of the democratically elected civilian president in November last year. If we are to defend Chile, then we gotta move quickly as Chilean will to fight is already dropping fast. Of course in doing so we basically start World War III with not one but two Communist nuclear powers: Soviet Union and France. Not sure Pinochet is worth a nuclear holocaust. Probably best to defend only my primary allies which are the Democratic Capitalists and the Zionists. Even South Korea may be on their own for the time being though even without U.S. help they'd probably be able to hold their own in the event of a Third Korean War albeit with a higher rate in casualties and destruction then the second. Fortunately the C.I.A. has detected no sign such a conflict will happen. Anyways more to come later.

It is technically still Developing Capitalist HOWEVER due to Communist becoming #1 ideology worldwide, Pakistan is now neutral as is South Korea, Chile, etc.

Hm, so we should probably increase troop numbers in allied countries. Also increase military & economic aid to more neutral powers, while undertaking measures to bring them in line with US.

Peruvian Occupation Of Chile

The War in Chile ended after just over a week of fighting on June 8, 1996. During the Battle of Santiago in the final day of the war, Augusto Pinochet personally led the defense of the capital city and was killed in the process. Luis Villanueva Carbajal, Peruvian Communist Party Secretary General, declared total victory and announced that the Peruvian Socialist Republic would be assuming control over Chilean sovereignty until all surviving elements of Pinochet's junta could be found and destroyed. While most have been caught or killed, a certain Fernando Delgado who served under Pinochet as a Colonel and was also a suspected drug lord eluded capture and led an anti-communist partisan resistance. Due to his anti-communist ties and his role in leading the Chilean underground, the American D.E.A. is now expected to leave Delgado and his business alone as long as his cartel refrains from shipping it's product to the United States. Despite this, Peru now has full control over Chile with them leading an occupation which includes troops from Bolivia, France, and the Soviet Union. On a side note, the War in Chile the first major conflict which France and the Soviet Union fought on the same side since the Second World War. On the bright side the Soviet Union is no longer in a state of total war though with their high ambition and low ethics this can easily change with little to no warning.

Start of World War III - September 1996

On the morning on September 26th, 1996, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics suddenly and deliberately attacked the United States of America with a combined air and naval strike with Spetsnaz support. Nearly a thousand Americans are dead, the U.S. Army installation Fort Hood in Texas had sustained considerable damage, the U.S. federal government has declared martial law, and the United States is preparing a proportional response against the Russians. The Third World War had begun. As an increasing number of Americans held demonstrations outside the United Nations in New York, the United Nations Security Council met in an emergency session to discuss the conflict with United States Secretary of State James Baker giving the following speech: "Colleagues, we meet at the hinge of history. If he should win this struggle then there will be no peace. Only the prospect of more conflict and a far wider war. As I said earlier today, we must remember the lesson of the 1930s and aggression must not be rewarded." He also described how the Soviet Union and their allies had been slowly and covertly asserting a socialist new world order which had engulfed much of Europe and nearly all of Latin America and that the United States could no longer standby and do nothing's. The Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs argued how the intransigent Americans tried to assert their own version of a new world order and even attempted to end the Soviet Union with the help of their ousted puppet Gorbachev with the Soviet decision to "peacefully" sponsor World Revolution being an act of self-defense. Due to the veto powers of the Soviet Union, the United Nations Security Council was helpless to stop Soviet aggression and even the United Nations General Assembly was evenly divided due to so many countries allying with the Soviet Union. The United Nations Security Council ultimately adjourned with no resolution to the conflict. The following day, the United States retaliated against the Soviet Union with three military surgical strikes with Special Operations Forces, bombers and ground attack aircraft, and a Los Angeles-class submarine taking part in the attack. The first strike ended in failure as the aircraft taking part were driven off by Soviet MiGs and anti-air defense and the second strike was aborted when Yanayev threatened nuclear retaliation. Third time proved to be a charm however as the third U.S. military strike found its mark with a military base on the outskirts of Leningrad sustaining damage.

World War Ongoing and Election Day 1996

It is now Election Day 1996. World War III has been going on for over a month now with combat mainly limited to surgical strikes and covert actions though us and Israel are currently in the process of invading Fundamental Islamic Egypt. Even though Egypt isn't a Communist country, a preemptive invasion and occupation was deemed necessary to secure Suez Canal and to ensure it don't fall into enemy hands like Panama did a while back. The Soviet Union also staged a successful coup in Finland helping the Communist Party of Finland overthrow the government with Heljä Tammisola becoming the new head of state. There is little that can be done at this point due to Finland being too well defended from the Soviet Union and most Nordic countries. The 1996 United States presidential election was an easy win due to polls being 92% with most popularity increase resulting from positive reaction to the multiple surgical strikes carried out against the Soviet Union and France. While France didn't technically attack this year, they still committed covert ops against the United Kingdom and the recent strikes are belated retaliation. While most historians generally agree that World War III began on September 26th, 1996 with the Soviet surgical strike against the United States, numerous coups and military actions against our allies over the past few years has some stating that the global conflict was already being waged during that time.

Hopefully it won't but who knows? Soviet Union is as ruthless as any country can get and their ethics are treacherous.

Note: Obviously President George H.W. Bush isn't gonna be a third term president so I must assume a different persona. Given the fact that United States has effectively made the conflict a de facto "holy war" going back before the Soviets even attacked us directly, I am guessing Dan Quayle isn't President either. Likely persona will be Chuck Baldwin given his real-life background with link to his Wikipedia article provided below. Regardless Bush will remain President until January 20th obviously.

November 16, 1996 - World War III Update

The Soviet Pacific Fleet backed by land-based Backfire Bombers launched a conventional strike against Japan despite U.S. threats for a significant escalation in military action. The attack took place on November 16th, 1996 and inflicted significant damage on a Japan Self-Defense Forces base as well as the financial district in the Japanese capital city of Tokyo. The President and the Joint Chiefs are now weighing their options with some disagreements over whether the military response should be proportional with surgical strikes or if the United States Armed Forces should prepare for a ground invasion of the Soviet Union  nearly two to one even if we could send all our troops to Iceland and Japan which we can't as it would leave us vulnerable to invasion. Even a ground offensive against Russia's Warsaw Pact allies to secure additional staging areas is likely gonna be very difficult. A decision should be announced over the following hours as...

The unthinkable has just happened. Within hours of the attack against Japan, the Soviet Union launched a nuclear strike against the United States obviously in response to the failed military ultimatum intended to prevent this very thing from happening. Though the strike was limited, 11 million Americans, including our Press Secretary, were tragically killed in this sudden escalation of the ongoing global conflict. With a heavy heart, President Bush ordered an immediate nuclear counterstrike proportional to the nuclear attack on the United States. Over 10 million Soviet citizens lost their lives in our devastating counterstrike. By the following day, nuclear fallout spread throughout North America and Eastern Europe as well as other countries adjacent to the United States and the Soviet Union with the global death toll reaching 135 million making the Third World War the deadliest military conflict in human history and worse then even both previous world wars combined. AND this was only the result of a limited nuclear exchange. Fortunately the Soviet launched no further nuclear strikes though I think ironically the United States owes Iraqi President Saddam Hussein a great debt as his decision to embargo the Soviet Union no doubt brought down their ambition at least temporarily causing the Soviets to cancel any further nuclear strikes. However at this point any negotiated peace settlement has now been deemed unacceptable with a vast majority of Americans calling for the complete destruction of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics though such an undertaking will no doubt take a long time given that the Russians have around half the world on their side.

World War III Update: Post-Nuclear State Of Affairs

It is now the beginning of December 1996. It has been just over two weeks since the horrific escalation involving the limited use of nuclear weapons which overnight made the conflict worse then both previous world wars combined. No cease-fire has been signed however there has been no further use of nuclear weapons. As a result of the death and destruction caused by the Soviet nuclear attack as well as the resulting fallout, the United States has now effectively become a police state with ambition and ethics being at their worst point ever. Zionist Israel has expressed concern over current human rights problems in the United States and stated their continued membership in the U.S.A. World Team Alliance may come to an end unless we bring our ethics up at least one level before the start of 1997. President Bush and President-Elect Chuck Baldwin agreed to work on at least partially restoring some freedoms in the United States otherwise why do we bother fighting? Martial law will probably still have to be maintained for the duration of the war at least while we have our enemies parked just south of our border with Communist Mexico. Social outcry has increased in countries affected by the radioactive fallout from the nuclear exchange between the United States and the Soviet Union with the chance of internal uprisings increasing greatly. Meanwhile ground fighting in Egypt continued with Israeli and American forces gaining ground every day with victory in that particular battle anticipated to come sometime before before 1997. Once Egypt has been defeated it is likely that the United States and Israel will turn their attention towards Sudan in order to secure the Nile River as well as establish a land connection between Greater Israel and U.S.-occupied Zaire.
