Ho! Ho! Ho!  A Glutton, little Aa, is a homunculus who eats things.  I have been told that we can eat anything.  For example, I just ate the distance that was between us and the village, and here we are!  Although, I must say, I wasn’t expecting it to literally split the air! Ho! Ho! Ho!”, Hugh laughs, gesturing wide.  “By the way, may I inquire as to what kind of humonculus you are?  Do you want to link needles with me? I can link with up to two more people…”, Hugh inquires.

"Ah, I see. These things are much more intricate than first appear. I will link my needle to yours, then. I think I am a Glutton as well, so inform me if you find something particularly tasty, and we can share..."

(It's a little dense but reading it should leave you well informed.)

Two small corrections. Or additions I suppose.
1. The robe can make the one in it appear different as well as altering its own appearance. So you can make yourself look like someone else, or simply look like yourself in different clothing. Or both.
2. You can see out of the eyes of the gloves when you close your own eyes. Right eye, right glove, left eye, left glove. Your gloves do not need to be on your hands to do this. Keep this in mind.

(Ah so that's what it is, cool. Shows my occasional illiteracy as Ozarck put that in his own summary and I completely glanced over it. I'll update the list later today.)

Hugh links needles with Aa and then saunters over to the others who are discussing the Greenveil place.

Ho! Ho! Ho!  So… you need to get to this Greenveil place!  I’ve got a proposition.  How about you let me pick up two humonculi and I eat the distance between here and Greenveil.  Once we’re there, I set them down and tell the rest that we’ve arrived.  Then they can tug on their links to teleport over to us. Oh… and please remind them to relink after they teleport.”  Hugh then waits for a reply.  After replying to Aaron, Hugh seeks out some of the villagers and asks them for information on this Greenveil place (including what direction it is in, and it’s distance from the village).

Aaron looks mildly exasperated at Hugh's suggestion. "That would be all well and good, perhaps, if we knew if we even wanted to go there right away. I don't know anything about it yet, and neither does any of the rest of us. Perhaps once we find out more, I'd be willing to take up your offer."

-stuff about our equipment-
Ozarck, do you think you could keep the quoted post updated as new information comes in and keep a link to it in your posts?
((As you've seen, both Fire and Glory and I have been keeping track of the functions of our equipment, and keeping the information relatively up to date. won't be including a link to an updated post though, for a couple reasons, including that it is more work for me. Occasionally, I will remind people of our abilities, as I remember, but it would be meta to have the list constantly in people's faces, and it's up to you guys to learn your stuff and use it to your own ability and playstyle.))

((As usual, I’ll let Ozarck decide on the color for the link between Hugh and Aa.))
((go ahead and take violet for now. I'll update the link web later, I have been dealing with some RL stuff recently))

(I was going to update and link to my own list next turn and so on, but the comment about meta does come in line with some of my own thoughts, in that while maintaining a list of meta information isn't too hard, separating and tracking what is and isn't common knowledge would be a pain and could create complications. So I'll just leave it where it is.)

In a free moment, Aaron tells those he is with "No-one here has any concrete idea what is causing this. You might hear some interesting stories if you asked what they think is to blame. I'm gong to see what I can figure out about the Geenveil place. It might be the source of the problem, or it might be a good base of operations. Or even both!"

Aaron then attempts to know which quarter of the forest Greenveil is in, and if any intelligent being lives there now. He also relinks with Grey, since he just showed up, and the link dissolved.

The southern section, and about a mile underground.

I'm gong to see what I can figure out about the Geenveil place. It might be the source of the problem, or it might be a good base of operations. Or even both!"

"Going to this Greenveil place sounds like it might be quicker than traveling the forest paths for a few days in hopes of something happening. I'll see if I can find out anything as well."

Not having any magic databases in his head, Grey asks around the village to see if anyone has been to Greenveil before, in hopes of getting directions or a guide. He also probes the people he talks with a little in hopes of getting details on this depravity they were known for.

He relinks with Aaron and Youare.

No one is willing to guide you through the forest, and their directions are vague at best. They say it should be along the path somewhere, and that there is an old gate arch which should mark the way, but thats about it. As per the "depravity", apparently the town was once very prosperous. It made a great deal on fishing the river, mining the hills and cutting the forests. But eventually those markets began to dry up and their profits with them. The town, hedonistic in its wealth, became desperate to keep its money. The depravity was a reflection of both the old hedonism and the new greed.

"It seems to me that the logical thing would have been to have a tracker attempt to find their last known location, with a decently large group accompanying them to escort and help with any rescues. Did you try it?"
ask the villagers

They did not. Most of the villagers here are older, and farmers on top of it. Tracking and hunting in the forest is not their way, and if too many go missing then the harvests will fail and all will starve. They have, as far as you can tell, simply given up on the forest as a place beyond them and started avoiding it. You can tell there's a fair amount of fear underlying these seemingly logical arguments. Perhaps they could not muster enough volunteers for a search party.

"That Greenveil place is probably the first place we should check out."
Ask people what they think is taking the people.

They are not certain, but the older among them remember that during the decline of Greenveil it was said to be dangerous to pass near it at night. There were rumors of young women being snatched off the path and spirited away into that town, never to be seen again. Those rumors then encompassed young men, then anyone on that forest whatsoever. As Greenveil vanished into the encroaching woods the rumors vanished with it but...these disappearances have brought those old stories back. Some say they simply suspect a connection. Others go off on wild tales of mansnatchers hiding in the forest and committing unspeakable acts in return for gold. Others believe it is something else, a remnant from those days lingering on and mindlessly acting. A curse, proverbial or perhaps real.

Hugh links needles with Aa and then saunters over to the others who are discussing the Greenveil place.

"Well, I think if someone disappeared trying to find the last people who disappeared, then all we have to do to find the objective is to do what they did and go out there! And then we can butcher whatever it is and eat its remains!"

Link needles with Hugh, then prance down the path into the forest. While being some distance from everybody else, try to eat a spot of air, then eat the Vacuum before it goes away.
If that goes fine, then poke my head into the woods. I can afford to explore a little bit since I can just Link back to Hugh.

[2] You try to take a bite of air but it all runs out between your teeth. Tricky.

The entrance to the forest is...unassuming. Seems like just a normal forest. Sure the path is pretty overgrown- just a thin strip of ancient stones almost completely lost in the undergrowth- but nothing about it screams impending doom. Though its trees are high, and the path is dark thanks to the branches.

Ho! Ho! Ho!  It’s somewhere along the path.  Somewhere along the path…”, Hugh laughs heartily.

Hugh then brings the eye of his needle up to his mouth and speaks into it.  “Ho! Ho! Ho! This is Hugh here!  I’ve talked to the locals about that Greenveil place, but all I’ve got out of them is that it’s somewhere long the path.  Was anyone able to get anymore information.  What do you think of my previous proposal?  Is it too dangerous?”.  Hugh pauses.

Hugh then continues, “I’m also concerned about my ability to get us to Greenveil.  I might need to know the bearing and distance to the place in order to transport there.  The villagers didn’t tell me how far the place is, and I doubt that path is straight all through the forest.  If anyone could give me any more information about where Greenveil is, it would be most appreciated.  If we still want to go there, that is…

Hugh then waits for the others to reply.

Aa holds her needle pointing down and then, hesitating a bit, speaks into the eye. "Hello Hugh. I have advanced into the forest. The path is in disrepair, but otherwise everything is normal.
I cannot support the proposal of traveling directly to the target destination. It is likely that you or I would require precise measurements, plus when I traveled with you I... observed that it may be a hazardous method.

It seems likely that travelers along this path will be ambushed by something near that Greenveil place. However, presumably the chance of our target revealing itself would go down if its prospective prey were to be armed and travel in numbers. As such I propose that I use my robes to assume a less threatening appearance and travel alone in order to lure out our prey. At which point I would inform you and others could link to my position to ambush. Would you mind conferring with the others if they agree with that course of action, Hugh?"

Reach up and clonk Hugh on the back of the head with the handle of my needle.
"We're all right here, you walnut. You don't need to yell into your needle."I am going to assume that everyone shares their results.
"Well, I'm going. In the morning, that is. For now, let's sleep. But let's set up a watch rotation as well, two homunculi per shift. Four shifts. I'll take first shift."

request sleeping arrangements for the group. take In the morning, assuming no nightly shenanigans, go along the path in the direction of the disappearances. Check through the eye of my needle as I go to look for hints of magic. Keep my ears open for weirdnesses like unnatural stillness or sounds that don't belong.
Edit: also do the "look like a villager" bit. put my needle in my robe sleeve. Go up front with Aa.
Edit Edit: swap a glove with grey, for keeping track of each other.

Ouch!”, Hugh responds, rubbing the back of his head.

Hugh then points the eye of his needle towards the link to Aa, “Aa… come back here.  If I remember correctly, you’re only linked to me.  If that’s so, I’m the only one who can teleport to you.  The others would have to wait for me to teleport to you and then teleport to me.  Precious time might be lost that way.  Time that might get you (and possibly me) killed.  I’d like you to come back here and link with more people, if possible.  Then you can resume your plan, if the others are ok with it.”  Hugh then shakes his head before rubbing it again.  “Ho… ho… ho…

Hugh then waits for Aa to respond and/or return.  Relink with Aa when she does so, then swap left gloves with her.

After doing so, use my robe to disguise myself as a random villager and see if I can disguise my needle as a walking stick (also, see if I can still see through it’s eye while it’s disguised).  If successful, keep it disguised.  If not, store it in sleeve-space.

Then take first watch.  After first watch, hit the sack and sleep until morning.

Then travel the forest path with the others (examining my surroundings as I go with my needle, if I was able to disguise it), and periodically closing my left eye to check up on Aa.  Notify the other’s and teleport  to Aa’s location if she’s in trouble.

Edit2:  added more stuff.

Edit3:  added part about swapping gloves.

Edit4:  major rewrite of action consequent to Egan_BW’s explanation.  Also, s/rope/robe.

"Interesting. Either my mind is giving me false information, or Greenveil is underground, and in the south of the forest. That is not where it seems the travelers are. The town is probably worth investigating, but may not have anything to do with the disappearances. I say we travel there tomorrow, and find out whether one of my pieces of knowledge is wrong."
Aaron volunteers for the second watch, and while waiting for arrangements, attempts to know the route from Greenveil to the village.

(Sorry if the underlining was extraneous. I figure if I get wrong info, it will be less disastrous that direction.)
