Kraken, Mitsurugi, Lyra

"I only ask that you regard me as what I am and continue assisting in this struggle." She made an admirable effort at not letting her tone continue to fall into the abyss. The handshake she gave was much like the first one, if somewhat slower. "I do not fault you for your reaction. Many people here seem to have little or no knowledge of the old ways, unfortunately."

Lyra nodded. "I understand... thank you for being so... accommodating. If it'd help you... I'd like to learn those old ways." Lyra hesitated for a moment before she realized something. "Oh, ah... I wasn't interrupting anything too important, was I?" Lyra tried to hold back the frown on her face as she heard Mitsurugi's more depressed tone of voice.

Perlita, 6D

Perlita watched as Lyra and Kraken moved off to talk to one of the room's new occupants - she'd found her voice faltering again as Kraken spoke about marksman training (to tell the truth, she was much more interested in honing her magical ability than she was shooting things, but it wouldn't be polite to say that), and again as she ended up having to focus along with Lyra to shape and work that last piece of Sharicite. It had been actually a difficult process - neither she nor Lyra had any idea how 6D worked, and even though they'd both worked with the crystals before it was still an experimental process, with Lyra mostly taking the lead while Perlita chipped in here and there on the magical end of things.

...but it had worked. It had worked. It had worked! Oh... it was practically a miracle. Technically, Perlita supposed, it might literally be a miracle, given the nature of the sharicite as some sort of divine material. But that didn't really matter, did it? No, it didn't - what mattered was the condition of the brave gynoid that had been dedicating herself to Perlita's protection. And now that Perlita found herself once again alone with the gynoid, she was going to very well dedicate herself, at LEAST for the moment, to making sure her condition was okay. And so, drawing close to 6D, Perlita poked her firmly above the chest. "6D, I am going to insist that you tell me what you condition is in detail, okay? You were really vague about how you were doing beforehand, so I want you to tell me the truth, so I can make sure that you aren't hiding further injury."

6d, Perlita

"Well, before, my self repair systems were having difficulty making full fixes; while I was fully functional, some internals were resisting the effort to repair them, particularly armor; I probably would have been a good bit more fragile if we'd ended up in a fight." 6D said, elaborating a bit on the earlier condition. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to conceal anything, I just didn't want you to worry more than you already were. The sharicyte seems to have bonded in the places where the damage was most severe, returning everything to perfect integrity; if there's any more damage even I'm not aware of it."

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Perlita, 6D

Perlita nodded firmly, and then exhaled. "...okay, well, that's good. Um, if there are further issues that come up later and they're mechanical problems, you'll have to find somebody else, but please let me know if an issue comes up later related to the sharicite, okay? I can't really be sure, but I think there's an okay chance that I could try to do something about it using some of my magic in that case. But otherwise, uh... yeah... I think that's it for now."

Kraken, Mitsurugi, Lyra

Kraken shakes his head, using the opportunity to get himself out of the feelings of annoyance he'd worked up. After a moment he shrugs. "Oh not really, was just conversating with the good spirit here, I also figured I was interested in joining a religion as I finally found one to back up it's claims and hey, I always figured there was something out there even if I didn't expect them to be so pretty!" Kraken chuckles for a moment before pulling out the talisman that Mitsu had made for him. "Was gonna find some place to claim as my room and then I was gonna make a little shrine. Figure I've seen how they do it over in Japan enough that I can get a good start assuming there's a wardrobe free."

Lyra nodded, uncertain what to say. She had so many questions... She decided to start simply. "What religion is it that you're a part of, Mitsurugi? And... Would it be all right if I joined?"

The answer to the second question would probably be 'No', of course... but she figured she lost nothing by asking. And perhaps... No, better not to hope for too much.

Kraken, Mitsurugi, Lyra

The goddess showed no external reaction to the pass Kraken took at her. She was an incarnation of the prayers of mankind; it would have been stranger for her to take an unattractive form. "Shinto. There are many rituals and festivals built up over the long years, but I will not trouble you with them. The path of divinity, the path shunned by modern man, is a simple one. Recognize that spirits beyond mortal ken exist, and treat them with due respect. Offer your faith to the gods and receive our protection." She gave a solemn nod, closing her eyes. "Trust in a higher power and we shall fulfill it." Mitsurugi opened her eyes as she turned to Lyra once more. "I do not demand your faith, but I will not deny protection to one who seeks it."

Lyra thought for a moment, then asked, "If that is the case... Would it be possible for me to ask for protection of my colleagues? How would I offer my faith to the gods? Prayer? A-and... how, exactly, would I pray?"

Lyra wasn't sure what to think of the request for trust. Lyra could barely trust her own intentions - how she'd behaved on her first mission against the Trespassers made that much clear. But of course, things could be different this time... right?

Friedhold, Aurora

"If she should continue to age at this rate.  I believe removing the parasite will be irrelevant as she will age out of the habitable range.  Then I will have to begin looking into what other issue may come of her growth, sooner than I expected."
He paused, thinking deeply for a few moments then frowning again.
"I may have to take a trip to my own world for that information even."
He shook his head and looked back up at the goddess.
"Thank you for your assistance."

The operator briefly thought about drawing a comparison to pagan gods, he knew a bit because his parents had been pagan, but decided against it when Lyra had an honest question.

"I am already protecting everyone in this group to the best of my ability." Despite the lack of devotion. "Pray in whatever manner you see fit - the significance is in your thoughts, not your actions." Mitsurugi thought for a moment. "If you wished to learn more than that, however, I have not had a devoted miko in some time." She forced her thoughts to swerve away from why. This conversation continued to be a spot of hope; if there were indeed more willing to provide her with faith, she could potentially return to what she was, someday.

Lyra nodded as soon as Mitsurugi finished. "If you'll have me, then I will be your miko." At least until you can find someone better. "What do I need to do to... become a miko?"

"That depends on several factors." Mitsurugi frowned, out of distant irritation rather than sorrow this time. "The modern conception of miko is. . . rather less sacred. Becoming a true channeler of divine spirits is no small endeavor, and one that would ideally have begun sometime around your twelfth year. I could attempt to take you through these rituals, in lieu of proper mentors, but it would require no small amount of dedication on your part - assuming you are capable of it at all." Her gaze had drifted off as she considered the logistics, and her mind drifted toward other possibilities before snapping back to the topic at hand. "Teaching you a few symbolic rituals would not be difficult, however."

Okay, so there was a chance she couldn't quite take on the role after all. Lyra nearly sighed in relief - then stopped herself. No! This was about helping Mitsurugi, not trying to figure out what would be easiest for Lyra! The contractor shook her head to clear it, then said, "Then that sounds as good a place to start as any. What are these rituals?"
