Well don't worry about that because it's NOT dreadnought-shaped as it's not a dreadnought, it's a predreadnought.

Autumn, 1895, Design Phase.

While things aren't going well in the west, everywhere else has gone absolutely splendid. Once we come over there and bring the hammer of our navy down, along side bring some of the marines, the west will fall into order just as well as the rest of the archipelago. Though it is a bit annoying how the enemy seems to have quite a good army, it is inevitable that they will eventually all fall. Even if the process is longer than desired.

Ideally we can soon bring our forces to bear and have a decisive battle that will win the war for us and solidify our position. And if not this year, then the next once our new battleships are finally able to put to sea. Ideally our fleet will be an envy even to the great powers sooner rather than later. Also it should be mentioned a few of our crews and captains are quantifiably better than before, and can truly be considered trained. Further, scouting by our forces will ensure that a landing in the central and eastern portions of the archipelago will go far more smoothly.

Due to increased military production, our budget has increased by 4. Make it count.

So, turns out we have only 4PP to spend this turn, and we want to finish that QF gun.

There's an 83% chance of completing the QF gun project if we spend 2 dice and 2PP. Its virtually guaranteed if we throw 4 dice and 4PP at it, and we've not got anything else to spend the PP on this turn.

Might wanna keep those dice for revisions though. PJ said we can spend revisions to design Marine equipment such as a rifle and revolver that aren't described as "basic". We also need field guns, as opposed to naval guns co-opted into defensive roles, and Madman suggested cutting down a 3" QF gun into a howitzer to fit that role.

Machineguns are also a thing, and if we can dump a load of them off on the Army that'll help those scrubs hold the line a bit longer.

So let's get some discussion yeah?

Madman talked about a design for a pair of sibling marine weapons. A machine gun and a grenade launcher. The Maxim was developed in 1886, so it shouldn't be too hard to copy, and its a recoil-operated action which is perfect for a grenade launcher.

Quote from: Marine Support Weapons "Fratellos" line
Copied Stolen Inspired by the British designed Maxim gun, we will design our first recoil-operated, fully automatic weapon, the "Fratellino" using the same round as our bolt-qction rifles (probably something like the 6.5×52mm Carcano). Crew served, the "Fratellino" can sustain up to 600 rounds per minute thanks to being water-cooled. As such, it is best deployed in a defensive role, as it is heavy and clumsy to move and set up compared to extant air-cooled weapons.

Making the most of our development time, the recoil-operated mechanism is enlarged to handle 40mm grenades. The weapon furniture ia similarly enhanced compared to the "Fratellino" to produce the "Grande Fratello" automatic grenade launcher. Standard payloads include Frag, HE, Smoke and Flare.

And another idea I had. A stretch maybe, but excellent if it works.

Quote from: Wireless Telegraphy Research Grants
It has come to the attention of the Magna Mongadizafra Imperial College that a number of researchers in the homelands are working on ways to send telegraph messages via the electromagnetic spectrum. It's an experimental technology right now, but if we can entice these individuals to our island the product of their work will be a massive boon to our naval communications.

I'm not so sure on that MG/GMG proposal, and though tempting I think we want more immediate impact than what will probably be a long project for radio.

Quote from: Marine Corps Artillery Development
We've got some nice quick-firing naval guns in development and it'd be a shame to leave our valiant marines without advanced weapons of their own.

Oh, and also those """Army""" guys, whatever they're supposed to do with them.

Anyway, building on the quick-firing guns we've just developed we're going to roll out a line of infantry guns using similar technology, but substantially lower charges, lower velocities, much shorter barrels, and generally more portability and indirect fire capability. The guns come in 50mm, 75mm, 105mm, and 150mm calibers. The 150mm is relatively heavy and immobile and fires a proportionally larger shell with more explosives while the 50mm fires a lighter shell with less propellant and is therefore extremely lightly built and easy to man-handle. It can be disassembled into the barrel, breech block, and two parts of the trail to allow a team of men to move it without the assistance of horses. The 75mm, 105mm, and 150mm howitzers are all built on similar (but scaled for the size of the gun, of course) frames towed by horse teams, as is standard.

This array of howitzers is a worthy use of our valuable development time even if it is for devices that are for the army types and fighting on land, which is of course beneath our collective dignity as naval officers.

Perhaps this?

Autumn, 1895, Design Phase.

Quick Fire Gun Series (2 die spent, 0 rushed)

1+5+3=9/8. 2 PP spent, 3 in total.

Work on the QF Gun series and the 12 inch gun was a mixed bag. Initially things were going abysmally slowly thanks to an accident with the new smokeless powder that set back our progress, and resulted in us adopting a less volatile substance known elsewhere as Ballistite. Still, thanks to the extra funding and the extra team we were able to properly finish the progress on the project and the various designs. Of course integrating the new weapons on the already existent ships is something that'll take time, and a bit of a minor redesign due to the firing mechanism, but really shouldn't be too difficult to work on in the near future.

Time: 2 | Progress: 6 | Expense: 3

While most of our focus is dedicated to our own guns, which were recently completed, another team of engineers who were more of a reserve team have been assigned to the arguably less prestigious role of aiding the ground pounders and our marines. Of course, the latter is far more prestigious but, it could be better armed, and arguably the army does need some new surplus that can actually be of use. Not that they'll be getting it for a few years until all our marines are equipped with the stuff, though ideally by then they'll maybe have enough of a budget to afford it. Speaking of budget, the project is a bit costly. Mainly due to prototyping for 'mobility' because of course that'd be a problem...

Marine Corps Artillery Development | 6/15 | 2 PP per die | Rushed 0 times | 3 PP invested

Effectiveness: 6 | Cost: 2 | Bugs: 6

Despite being a reserve team the work they have done thus far for the guns is nothing short of impressive. The guns are slow to overheat, accurate, have a long range, fast firing, and all in all hard hitting. Despite using the metric system instead of imperial, the guns are, simply put, better than we hoped for, and even in the hands of an untrained idio- I mean recently enlisted army soldier it should prove to be quite effective in actually making the day a bad one for our enemy. Of course, our marines will enjoy their use, though obviously those marines who are given these weapons will need to wait until a beachhead is secure to properly be able to unload. After all, it's hard enough doing a landing with infantry as it is now...Still, there is one small issue with the gun. All that quality comes down to causing complexities and requiring some materials that are a bit...costly to produce...To put it simply, it costs a lot for what it is. And while it's certainly good, it's going to take a fair bit before our marines get a hold of enough of them to make a major difference. And much longer for the army with their grand total of an almost empty wallet...

Time to maximise the usage of the new QF guns.

Quote from: QF Gun Rollout
The blueprints for the Pompey Magnus and the Lepidus will be updated to use the new 3", 5" & 6" QF guns, as well as the Improved 12", taking care to include the alterations from the BMA upgrade as necessary. For bookkeeping, and QF Gun upgrade includes the BMA, and is considered to be the standard for new ships. As such, we will also ensure the current ships-in-production can also include this upgrade immediately.

Also, we've been given responsibility of the Marine Armoury as well, so let's put in some token effort.

Quote from: Soldier Small arm Shopping Spree
We have far more important things to spend our time on that actually designing things like rifles, pistols and shotguns, but until we invent a Land Ship or something, we will have to rely on foot sloggers to actually take the ground from the enemy after our ships have flattened it.

A few trusted interns will thus be given a briefcase of money and tickets to the next Gun Show, so that they can review the contemporary firearms available and purchase contracts for each of the following:
- Sidearm
- Infantry longarm
- Cavalry longarm
- Trench weapon
- Grenade

There isn't too much to be said about this, really. It's just a modification to our existing ships to replace the guns with their newer quickfire variants. Luckily, it doesn't increase the costs of any of our ships, though ideally these vessels wont be in continuous or prolonged engagements where the guns can suffer a bit from wear. Luckily even on the Magnus, enough was done to prevent the cost from being raised with the new increase in maintenance required.

As it turns out going to gun shows was a good idea, as the newly made Magdala N95 Fucile was shown off. It has a capacity for 5 rounds and, get this, uses new technology to help loading through a technique that was made overseas. It's called a clip. These 'clips' hold the bullets and allow the user to push them in and load multiple at the same time instead of one bullet after the other! Other than this, we found a fancy carbine and shotgun by a company called Punto Nord. The carbine is a simplified and interesting bolt action that only requires straight pull to cycle the bullet. And the shotgun is a fairly simple and reliable tool as one would expect. The last gun of note is one made by a gunsmith of sorts who's last name is Casciano. The pistol is capable of firing really quickly. You don't need to do much once it's ready for combat and loaded. Just pull the trigger! This wonderful rapid fire gun has a smaller caliber than our revolver, and is a bit more complex, but it's nice for the officers. Lastly, we weren't really able to find a 'grenade' but a random sailor used a tin can for some of our decent meals and stuffed it with a bit of gunpower and made a sort of makeshift bomb. It actually works, though, not all the time. Regardless, money well spent, even though it'll take some time to actually get the equipment to everyone, and also time to teach the soldiers how to make that little tin bomb.

It is now the Production&Strategy phase of Autumn, 1895. You have a 1 PP deficit should you pay for all maintenance and construction costs.
