Merry 1:30am on Christmas day, everyone! I would sincerely like to know how everyone's Christmas is/was this year.
Leafsnail: I've got it on good authority (my own) that there are wincons in this game besides basic factional ones. How important do you think semi-bastard strats like converting everyone to the same cult and having a huge group/all players win together are likely to be in the game?
My guess would be not very. I assume most players have picked a high level of Shenanigans and that will probably make it very difficult to form any reliable plan at night. That's both due to town roles potentially having uncontrollable elements and the possibility of unclaimed scum roles falling outside of any reasonable expectation. That kind of breaking strategy is much more likely to happen in a game with known or at least relatively sane roles.

[Off-topic: I'm not great, I've been in social isolation for more than 30 days now due to living alone in an area with a shelter-in-place order. Also, my cousin apparently got married over a year ago and didn't tell anyone outside her immediate family until today! It has been good. Lots of time spent with family. I had Zoom Christmas with relatives. That was awful. The in-person visits have been much better.
That's cool. I was fortunate enough to get back to my family before things really blew up so I've also had family contact.Good so far. My kids spent the night last night and they got their stuff this morning, and they were quite delighted. I saw both my parents (outside only, mask on whole time, limited time) for the first time in months. I'm glad I could get most of everything delivered, because I'm pretty done with stores.
Nice, I've certainly found what limited contact I've been able to get with others over the last few months more precious than ever. Some of my older relatives are getting vaccinated soon so I have some hope I'll be able to visit them relatively soon.
What's your biggest concern for likely high shenaniganery?
I think my main concerns is that a lot of actions could end up not hitting their intended target (eg if there's an ability that can randomize all actions, or swap a bunch of targets around). That would make a mockery of any attempt to co-ordinate a breaking strategy, and makes me very disinclined to try and claim. I think in a weird way games with super heavy roles end up being more about town dayplay than simpler setups where you can reasonably predict outcomes.
So, who's scum? Do you think scum are more likely to have a higher shenanigan number?
No - we selected our shenanigan values before alignments were assigned and I'd expect webadict to assign alignments randomly to prevent metagaming. So I'd expect no correlation.

TricMagic. Personally, when I am scum I often get this wrenching feeling that I have made a mistake, and it gives me an urge to cover for this perceived mistake with an explanation afterwards. Do you also get this feeling?

I don't really get the question? This kinda makes me feel that way, but in the game no, I've never had that happen to me before. Besides that 'Everyone Scum' game after it ended, but that's mostly cause my playstyle was completely wrong because of it.
Ok, I guess I will try again. You immediately bought an item from the shop without providing any reason for doing so. You then, without anyone having challenged you over it, provided an explanation for why you did so. To me that seems self-conscious in a way I wouldn't expect a town player to be. I'd like to hear about why you felt the need to make the second clarifying post.

This is phrased weirdly but I think given the context of his previous post it's pretty clear that he meant knowledge the town as a whole doesn't have. He went on to clarify what he meant.
Out of the people who moved on this I found Vector's posts rubbed me the wrong way.
As far as the slip goes, I've seen this kind of thing both reveal the scumteam and offer an excuse for scum to bandwagon. If we lynched ICT today, and I were alive in a couple of days, I expect that I would examine anyone with a last-minute bandwagon over the slip later.
This in particular strikes me as pretty weaselly, especially given that Vector supports Jim's case in the previous paragraph. It's strangely noncommittal - not settling on whether the scumslip is real, and leaving open the door to go after other people who do believe it's real (while leaving in the bandwagon as a caveat). This feels like a pretty calculated response to what should be a straightfoward question.

Leafsnail: why does Vector's post about ICT's 'slip' bother you so much more than Toasters, is it just because it's noncomittal? Since you don't believe in the 'slip' as a scumslip, how do you feel about the fact that Toaster is doubling down on it as such?
Yes, as I said the reason why Vector's posts bothered me is that it was noncommittal. I think that Toaster is wrong but being wrong is not a scumtell in and of itself.

Leafsnail, why should we lynch a player like Tric on D1?
Yes, I am voting for the player I want lynched. I found Tric's behaviour around buying the badge suspicious, and now that Tric has claimed a third party win condition lynching him is a no-brainer. Lynching someone who's guaranteed not to be town (but who could still easily be scum) is a much better option than you normally get on day one.
Vector is the other player I find suspicious for reasons stated above - I do not believe they've talked about it yet.

I'm voting them over Leafsnail cause I believe he is mafia. Leafsnail doesn't give me any real info. Or anyone else. Trying to shift the vote to them is suspect as Day 2 is going to be nearly as exhausting as day 1. I'd take a self-lynch over a leaf-lynch. At least town would get info out of that.
Oddly enough I find this to be the most towny thing Tric's said so far. Genuine concern over how much information will be netted from the lynch, which is one of my concerns as well.
Also, what did I claim? Friendliness? No Bonk negates kills made by the wearer, so it's an option to buy it and give it to another?

I thought you saying that you "need to collect them again" and then going on to mention win conditions, combined with the fact that you seemed to care more about taking a hat from IcyTea than you did about his alignment, meant you were claiming a non-town alignment. Also note how the last paragraph says that you're not mafia, but doesn't say that you're town. Also if you're town then why do you have an ability that's specifically good in the hands of the mafia? I don't get it.

This isn't what I'm saying. Tric has claimed third party win conditions, even if he now seems to be welching on that claim. No, I do not think Tric is capable of constructing a lie this elaborate as town, nor do I think his role as claimed makes any sense as a townie. In any case all my logic when playing mafia has always been predicated on townies telling the truth - I remember discussing this with you in a previous game. So in my view either Tric is telling the truth and is a third party who could potentially work to help the mafia, or is lying and is scum. This makes him a far better option to lynch than any other player who could easily be town.

Think I'm going to +1 Toaster here. Leafsnail you haven't interacted with anyone besides TricMagic and Vector (barely). Why?
...Given that a 4 person mafia team has been confirmed, who are your other suspects for the mafia team? Who's your strongest townread and why?

The answer to all of these is the same - I have had incredibly little time over the past few days due to family commitments. Looking for where my name has been bolded and skimming for the points that looked actually interesting (IcyTea's alleged slip, TricMagic not being town) among the multiple massive walls that I have neither the time nor inclination to read is all I can manage.
For that reason I cannot honestly say I have anything on anyone else - I have posted the thoughts I have had about the game up to this point. I do strongly suspect that TricMagic will remain my preferred lynch unless there is a compelling mechanical reason to think someone else is scum, but I will try to read the longform cases up-thread to see if there are any other lynches that I would find acceptable if we cannot reach quorum on TricMagic.
Mentions not having much time over the past few days, as well as affirming that Tric is either third party or scum and should be lynched for that reason.
I'm happy to believe the mason claim provisionally. Obviously it could be a scum gambit but it would be an extremely risky one - even if town completely believed it scum masons could get massively blown out by a third-party killing role such as an SK.
fakedit: a daycult fakeclaiming masons would be outright suicide rather than merely risky, because they'd be painting huge targets on themselves for the mafia.
This case against ToonyMan doesn't make sense to me. What you're touting as a "slip" seems to me like an overly pedantic reading of TM's posts. To me the P2 exchange can be broken down to this:

TM: Because ICT claimed he received a PM at the same time and I don't think both of them are mafia together [and therefore lying to cover for each other]
To me it seems like you're just reading "In my opinion, this makes it incredibly unlikely they're on the same team." in isolation and attacking that, rather than trying to understand what that line means given the context of the rest of the post. With this in mind I think it makes sense as a clarification of P1.
I feel similarly about your objection to P3 - TM is spelling out the scenarios where heydude can be scum, and due to their weirdness discarding them as unlikely.
TM does leave out some steps which makes his posts unclear but I can follow the overall chain of logic.

End result? There's some shiftiness, but I have a hard time solidly reading Leafsnail as either scum or town.
It doesn't help that I haven't played years of games with him to allow for a meta read, though.
