I have an HTC Vive. One issue with many games is the need for a playspace - some you can do sitting (about any space game), but some just really need space to move around a bit. Cordless would be fantastic, as I often have to stop & unwind cables. Movement can be an issue, as "standing" games need you to do some interaction - which can cause vertigo.
Here are some of my top picks. Not sure what newer games are out there, as I haven't looked at any new VR games for a year or more.
Experiences:
$10 but worth it.
The BluVery short, but a fantastic experience to showcase VR.
Free:
Trials On TatooineShort, another showcase. Absolute must try for any Star Wars fan with VR. Standing there and seeing the Falcon come flying in to land beside you just gave me the chills.
Games:
$30
Budget CutsMy absolute top pick, decided I'd be buying it from the first time I tried the demo. Get it. Avoid the robots.
Great take on movement style - pistol shoots a marker, and you get a handheld orb showing the view from the marker - move it to your face to "step through"
$20
QuiVRMan, what to say. Archer game. QuiVR Vanguard ($15) is basically the original demo, and QuiVR is the "full" game. The demo was one of my top games when I first got my headset.
Vangaurd is a defense type game, where mobs attack your castle gate. The actual game is a more mobile thing, where you defeat waves of enemies & advance through a canyon, fighting more difficult things. Two different playstyles.
Neat take on movement too, as you shoot arrows at portals to move to there.
$20
Vanishing RealmsFantasy setting, fantastic game. needs a bit of room to step around in, as you're swinging your sword, or sidestepping missiles.
$15
HoloBallEver want to be in a futuristic arcade racquetball arena set in a destroyed landscape, playing against a robot? Now you can! Racket. Ball. Big cube-cage. Try to serve the ball past the robot face as it mocks you. Killer soundtrack (Dance With the Dead)
$15
Space Pirate TrainerFantastic environment. Two handed shooting as swarms of drones try to kill you off. Can set each hand to different weapon types, or even a shield. Good soundtrack as well, just wish it had volume controls in-game.
Free
Rec RoomMulti-user environment where you can partake (solo or in groups) in a variety of activities. Disc Golf, Paintball, I really don't even remember what all it has. Has a "big quest" dungeon type of setting, where your group goes through, killing enemies until you get to a boss room. Worth looking at since it's free & all.
Some people get irritated by all the children playing, as there is audio chat, and kids being kids instead of "pro gamers".
