Is research automatic, then? My attempt to research stuff didn't appear to do anything, but it completed anyway.

The kitchenette mold free, you move on to the pantry. it's nasty in there. The bacon is grazing on the lettuce. The ham is having an illicit affair with the prime rib, The potatoes see all, know all. A rat in boxer shorts smoking a foul smelling cigar is banging on a cabinet shouting about rent money.

At long last, farming has started. Combined with workshops, you now count as a village, instead of a collection of hermits.
Your [Forage] button has been replaced with a [Farm] button.

It is now late summer.

Yeah, the research completed. But Nirur said I pressed the button and nothing happened. Maybe it was already set to priority research (hence the [1]), so setting it to priority research again didn't do anything.

If so, we should see labor organization and SPIDERS! set to high priority next turn.

You get kicked out of the forge and made to farm instead.

It is now early fall. Current trends should leave you with enough food through the winter, even without your personal work at the farm.

You click labor, and then depths path (spiders). The spider study is completed promptly. You know more about the dread GCS, which may help in the future. You're not sure it's worth dealing with smaller spiders, but you can try to harvest enough webs to craft silk socks.
