It looks like I won't have a good chance to write the update later, but I still want to play Zoo Tycoon. I'll go ahead and update now with the suggestions already posted.
Zoo of the Year
December-June, Year Three and FourTo start, I built an "Iceberg Lounge" behind the penguin exhibit.
Hopefully helping with Mr. Cobblepot's "legitimate business" will encourage him to help us in turn.
I feel like we'll get along nicely.
After that, I went to work on adding new animals to the Aquatic Section's tanks. A pair of belugas fit in easily with the dolphins.
I also expanded the jellyfish tank, in preparation for adding a giant squid.
In the process, I made a potentially profitable discovery. I had to earn money quickly to get the jellyfish tank back to their preferred depth, so I sold some of our saltwater crocodiles. Turns out they breed quickly, don't care if we sell their young, and are worth over $1,100 each. I've expanded their enclosure and bought a second breeding pair to see if we can earn some more money this way.
We received a bit over $17,000 dollars from our benefactors at the beginning of February, so I tried adding a giant squid to our jellyfish tank. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. The squid immediately attacked and ate a jellyfish, so we quickly returned it for a refund. Maybe we can build a giant squid tank somewhere else later.
Since the squid didn't work out, I tried a pair of giant Pacific octopuses. The octopuses and jellyfish were willing to tolerate each other.
We are now reliably earning $20,000 or more a month from our benefactors. Using this, we are now able to easily build large exhibits. Starting off, we built the giant sloth enclosure.
After that, we started on the multispecies dinosaur herd. I made it a coniferous forest, since that biome has a decent number of herbivorous dinosaurs. To start, we bought two Stegosaurus and two Gallimimus.
As per usual, we had to wait for the eggs to hatch to get a better idea of what they'd want. Before they even hatched, we won a major award. I didn't actually expect to get this one.
The elephant seal statue was given a prominent place at the entrance to the aquatic section. I look forward to seeing what you all want to do with the prize money. For now, I've begun funding all of our research and conservation programs. Among other upgrades, we unlocked the crustacean house and the tropical aquarium.
Our success was admittedly slightly undercut when I forgot that Gallimimus are omnivores and one of them promptly ate a Stegosaurus egg upon hatching. At least I was able to save the other one and buy a replacement.
After that misstep though, the Prehistoric Forest was opened for the public.
We now have $161,044 in the bank. For context, this is roughly enough to build the savanna safari, the remaining two walker exhibits, and possibly still have some money left over. What do you want to do with it?
