What's the building with the Atlantean look?

It’s a gift shop.

The end of Year One

Spoiler: Zoo Map (click to show/hide)

October-February, Year One and Two

Before October ended, we hired two new staff members. Maria the tour guide is now wandering the zoo, teaching crowds of guests about animals. We also needed a maintenance worker, so I got one of those.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The jellyfish show had a disastrous first performance. The jellyfish hated being in the show tank, and nobody showed up to watch since the "tricks" are just two (somehow) miserable jellyfish floating aimlessly around a tank. I cancelled the show and slightly rebuilt the show tank to make it as deep as the jellyfish prefer.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They still seemed to hate doing shows, even after their show tank was adjusted. Apparently the shows were taking too long and causing them to get angry. I cut their routine down from 8 "tricks" to 3. Hopefully they can tolerate that.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

On Christmas Eve, I finished building the bear exhibit that King Zultan suggested. I picked a grizzly bear so I wouldn't have to keep getting a new one to reset the yellow brick road Easter egg.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We've reached December's unlocks, and as such have acquired nearly everything that doesn't require research.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Out of necessity, I sold some of our overcrowded lions and used the money to build a Lobby's Restaurant in the aquatic section to take care of some unfulfilled guest needs.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Per a suggestion from CABL on the Discord, we got a small saltwater crocodile exhibit installed in February.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Shortly thereafter, the jellyfish show managed to successfully draw a crowd for the first time in its seven months of existence, right before I was about to recommend its destruction. It even got applause after the show was over.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I still haven't built the hammerhead shark or swordfish exhibits, but I thought Mightymushroom might want a different animal first now that we have the new unlocks. We could also get a great white with a bit of time and research. I'll also redecorate the hub with our newly acquired scenery (and lava pit) later.

What about some kangaroos?

Also how much space have we used so far?

$2 feels like a steep price for the jellyfish show. I'd lower that to $1 (at most) if you haven't already; the act is more of a novelty rather than a marquee event.
(Keeping prices low means we have to sell/show more things to vacuum the last dollar out of guests' wallets, but they leave happier for it.)

And I'm still eager for hammerhead sharks and swordfish. Our moon museum needs to kidnap preserve the bizarre unique specimens of Mother Earth.

How much vertical space do we have for digging on this map? Can very tall tanks be somewhat "sunken" in the future?

We have a lot of space for digging. I’d guess it’s about enough to bury the jellyfish tanks, for example. I can definitely sink the tanks if you like, I just had them above the surface so you could all see the contents easily.

Also how much space have we used so far?

Only a small amount of what’s available, I’d guess less than 10% of the grounds. The prehistoric and safari chambers are still untouched.

I wouldn't bury things completely, just one or two units. And it's a personal aesthetic choice. Keeping things visible to the screen is also good. Obviously sinking is not ideal for the show tank(s) since (in my imagination) the audience wants a full view of the tricks.

We’ll need to keep the jellyfish tank raised then, since the tanks have to be the same height for the gate to work.

I don’t think burying things is a good idea, let’s keep things above ground, also +1 to kangaroos

Just a heads up, there won't be an update tomorrow.

It gave them hop

Spoiler: Zoo map (click to show/hide)

February-June, Year Two
The Headshoots Facility continued to grow slowly. An endangered unicorn was added to the collection, and a chamber was opened up to house all sorts of aquatic life.

To be blunt, we went into this part with financial and guest satisfaction problems, mostly stemming from the aquatic section. For some reason, the people weren't going to the restaurant in sufficient numbers. I'll experiment and see if I can find a fix. On an unrelated note, I've cut the price of the jellyfish show to one dollar.

By April, we got our hammerhead exhibit and passed the last few non-research unlocks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I temporarily turned off the jellyfish show and noticed immediate improvements. By my guess, the show was going on so long, even with only three tricks, that people were getting hungry to the point of anger. Our rating shot up five points and our income went up by a couple thousand dollars a month, enough that I was able to hire a new zookeeper, marine specialist, and maintenance worker. I've shortened the show to two tricks and a less frequent schedule. It still seems to have an noticeable negative affect, but a more survivable one now.

We won two awards for adding our 10th animal, the Atlantic swordfish.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not long after that, a pair of red kangaroos joined our collection.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Per a suggestion by Prophet, I gave one of our crocodiles a custom name.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sadly, our unicorn died of old age shortly thereafter. We'll get another one soon, but for now I think we need the money for the entrance hub.

I had some fun setting up our improved hub. I went ahead and prepared the entrance to the savanna safari, even though it's still closed. I also added a playground for children in one corner.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Finally, we also won a certificate to celebrate our 500th guest.

I understood that reference.

Maybe we could add some random bathrooms and benches to increase happiness.

Yes, this facility is more spread out. I'm sure folks would appreciate rest benches and restrooms to supplement our restaurants.

Oops, AT-TE (All-Terrain Tactical Enforcer) should be AT-AT (All-Terrain Armored Transport)! This one is the camel walker.

AT-ST would be All-Terrain Scout Transport, the chicken walker.
