Dinosaurs escaping is one of the main reasons I never had them when I played the game.

Maybe we could try to make a big multi-dino enclosure with herbivores.

If possible, can we have giant sloth exhibits? Also, how about an ice cream stand near the penguin exhibit, called "Iceberg Lounge" (Where the DCU Penguin in Batman: Arkham City runs his operations)?

We could probably put a compatible non-performing animal into the dolphin tank so it isn't vacated (and thus not receiving donations) every show. And maybe an invertebrate neighbor for the Jellyfish? I remember cephalopods being kind of expensive though. Weren't Giant Squid $12000?

Giant squid are $6,000. Also, I might not be able to update tonight.

It looks like I won't have a good chance to write the update later, but I still want to play Zoo Tycoon. I'll go ahead and update now with the suggestions already posted.

Zoo of the Year

Spoiler: Zoo Map (click to show/hide)

December-June, Year Three and Four

To start, I built an "Iceberg Lounge" behind the penguin exhibit.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hopefully helping with Mr. Cobblepot's "legitimate business" will encourage him to help us in turn.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I feel like we'll get along nicely.

After that, I went to work on adding new animals to the Aquatic Section's tanks. A pair of belugas fit in easily with the dolphins.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I also expanded the jellyfish tank, in preparation for adding a giant squid.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In the process, I made a potentially profitable discovery. I had to earn money quickly to get the jellyfish tank back to their preferred depth, so I sold some of our saltwater crocodiles. Turns out they breed quickly, don't care if we sell their young, and are worth over $1,100 each. I've expanded their enclosure and bought a second breeding pair to see if we can earn some more money this way.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We received a bit over $17,000 dollars from our benefactors at the beginning of February, so I tried adding a giant squid to our jellyfish tank. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. The squid immediately attacked and ate a jellyfish, so we quickly returned it for a refund. Maybe we can build a giant squid tank somewhere else later.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Since the squid didn't work out, I tried a pair of giant Pacific octopuses. The octopuses and jellyfish were willing to tolerate each other.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We are now reliably earning $20,000 or more a month from our benefactors. Using this, we are now able to easily build large exhibits. Starting off, we built the giant sloth enclosure.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After that, we started on the multispecies dinosaur herd. I made it a coniferous forest, since that biome has a decent number of herbivorous dinosaurs. To start, we bought two Stegosaurus and two Gallimimus.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As per usual, we had to wait for the eggs to hatch to get a better idea of what they'd want. Before they even hatched, we won a major award. I didn't actually expect to get this one.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The elephant seal statue was given a prominent place at the entrance to the aquatic section. I look forward to seeing what you all want to do with the prize money. For now, I've begun funding all of our research and conservation programs. Among other upgrades, we unlocked the crustacean house and the tropical aquarium.

Our success was admittedly slightly undercut when I forgot that Gallimimus are omnivores and one of them promptly ate a Stegosaurus egg upon hatching. At least I was able to save the other one and buy a replacement.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After that misstep though, the Prehistoric Forest was opened for the public.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We now have $161,044 in the bank. For context, this is roughly enough to build the savanna safari, the remaining two walker exhibits, and possibly still have some money left over. What do you want to do with it?

The Moon Safari

Spoiler: Zoo Map (click to show/hide)

June-August, Year Four

Time to open Chamber One. Building an exhibit with an up to $160,000 budget will be fun.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

With our massive recent windfall, it only took two months to construct the entire safari section.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Safari Tour (click to show/hide)

I hope you're all satisfied with the safari chamber! We now own every single savanna animal in the game. We have $26,697 remaining in the bank, and are rapidly replenishing our income. What should we build next?

Also, some other points that came up during this turn:Since I moved our lions and kangaroo here, those two exhibits in the normal wildlife area are now empty. We should probably put something new in there. We also won the Gold Plaque for Diverse Species while building the safari. Unfortunately, I partially blocked the award text while taking the screenshot and didn't come back in time to get a new one before the message disappeared.

A sable antelope watches the scientist responsible for keeping giant lizards in its home.

Zoo rating:89/95 (I expect this to improve quickly, since I'm pretty sure unlocked research contributes to the zoo rating and it's currently down a bit due to all the safari animals that became annoyed as I worked out the compromises necessary for them to live together.)

This zoo is turning out to be fancy as hell.

Maybe we should get some sharks next, and some big meat eating dinosaurs.

Are – are all those giant dinosaurs being kept in by a little wooden fence? It looks like the giraffe could just step over it.

Normally yes, most of those animals would effortlessly escape the tiny fence. However, what’s really keeping them in is a little moat running along the outside. There’s a bridge to let keepers in, but the animals can’t knock down gates.

Since the first one was so profitable, how about a second ice cream stand? It doesn't have to be named "Iceberg Lounge", but in my headcanon, Penguin is trying to expand his business to sell cocaine ice cream to children.

I wasn't satisfied with some of the fences inside the safari section, so I changed them to ones that would blend better with the terrain. You can see the results in the zoo map.

T. rex

Spoiler: Research unlocks (click to show/hide)

August-January, Year Four and Five

Before we can handle any of the new suggestions, we have to deal with some problems that have emerged since the safari opened. The Triceratops and baboons in the main valley seem unhappy with their environment. Although the others seem willing to compromise, all the little things they don't like are really bothering those two species. We might be able to work it out, but the Triceratops in particular keep knocking down trees out of frustration, and we need those trees to keep all the other species happy. For now, I'll move the baboons to the lions' empty enclosure in the normal wildlife section and build a new exhibit for the Triceratops. Meanwhile, The lion's mane jellyfish and octopuses keep filling their tank with waste faster than their marine specialist can handle, making them angry. I'll try selling a few to cull their numbers, that might solve their problem. The hippos were also angry, but I'm guessing that might just be because they had too much poop at the moment and were hungry.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After that, we just waited a while to ensure our finances were in order and then went back to work on the other sections.

We've added another perfectly innocent ice cream stand. This one is placed in an area that's been empty for a while, lying in wait for the often hungry guests leaving the dolphin show. Crushed ice is also available.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Though I liked combining the dinosaurs with the other safari animals, the ankylosaurs started getting upset with their environment too. I responded by dividing the main enclosure, giving the dinosaurs their own piece of the exhibit. I've moved the Triceratops back into the safari area, now with a better environment for them than either of their previous homes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The cheetahs also didn't like sharing space with the lions after a while, so they've been moved out to the kangaroos' old exhibit.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For a few other updates before we move on, we've won the award for the "Best Dolphin Show in the Country", our Allosaurus became the first adult dinosaur on the Moon, and our Gallimimus mysteriously disappeared immediately after the Stegosaurus achieved maturity. Apparently they held a serious grudge over that lost egg.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next up is King Zultan's request for sharks and "some big meat eating dinosaurs". There are three big meat eaters among the dinosaurs in this game, and thanks to our massive donation income, we now have them all.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next time, we'll add some shark tanks.

An award for our dolphin show.

With all the exhibits and animals we have now, we may as well add a compost building somewhere to get a bit of money back. It basically destroys guest satisfaction though, so it needs to be somewhere remote and out of sight.

As for sharks, let's get a whale shark. Maybe some baleen whales too for a giant marine animals tank, provided they get along well enough.
