I... suppose not. In truth, this Line is more a curse than a blessing.

"I...I hope it helps."

"I do too." The two of you share a grin, and Emma takes deep breath, turning to head out the door. "I suppose I should introduce you to your Ministers." With that, and with one final, long look at you, she calls the assorted crowd back in. You recognize a null amongst them, by lack of will alone, but the rest are all human.

When they enter, they face you and give a gentle bow of the head, then, Emma introduces each by turn, seemingly at random.

Dan Hoganson, the Minister of State. A tall, bulky man, loaded with muscles, bearded and pale. His hair is blond -- obviously a descendent from a Family, judging by the hook nose and thin lips. He wears a neutral expression and gives another bow of his head in deferential silence. He wears a formal Scholar's uniform, which strains against the muscle.

Lacey Sterling, the Minister of Religion. Short, stocky, chubby, with the tannish brown skin of the common folk of SEED's city-state. A mop of sandy brown hair is in a tight bun, and she wears a preacher's robe. Her bow is far more ornate, more deferential, and her smile reaches her eyes. "Its a pleasure to meet you in person, Mother Pheonix. I hope I am worthy of your appointment to this prestigious position!"

Mickey MacGruder, Minister of Agriculture. Another man with ruddy skin, of average build and height. A pair of glasses hanging from a cord looped around the back of his head. He gives a bow-- he is not wearing a uniform, rather a stained denim jumpsuit. "Mother Pheonix." He politely intones.

Nettle Armsmith, Minister of Industry. A child of SEED through and through. She's short, stocky, but her brown skin is paler than average. Burn scars trace themselves up her muscled, coiled arms. She gives a bow of her head, but gives no response.

"I'm Guardian Minister Lauren Mack. You knew my father." Lauren interrupts Emma, who pauses to look at her with exasperation. Lauren approaches you, standing tall. She's svelte, wiry, with long black hair and an air of confidence. "Its a pleasure to meet you." An older man hangs at her shoulder, adorned in the same dull brown uniform of the Guardians as her. Their badges, clad in leather, hang from their coat pockets. She is one of the few in the room carrying a gun, and a pair of bioplastic handcuffs.

Tiffany Mellone, is introduced, when Emma gets back into the groove of her spiel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. An Outlander; tall, wiry, with tan skin and reddish brown hair. She has sharp features, and eyes that examine you quickly, before looking pointedly elsewhere. The knife at her Crusader Uniform's belt helps you to realize this too -- it's carved in their runes. "Mother Pheonix."

Laurence Geoyde, Minister of Trade and Finance. He's a stressed looking man, pale and balding, tucked into a too-tight suit. He gives a tight bow of his head, clutching at his paperwork tightly. "Mother Pheonix. An honor."

Valerie 'Val' Foster, Minister of Health. A short woman, with a shaved head and a tight smile. Her eyes linger on your chest, on the patchwork of carbon fiber that peeks beneath the bandages. She bows her head when she's introduced, stating calmly, "You're singlehandedly pioneering our medical research without even trying, I hope you know."

You can't help but laugh at that. Val grins.

((http://chaoticshiny.com/modernchargen.php I use this to get a good name, then fudge it according to the vague histories of generational habitation in SEED's city-state. Is that a word? Maybe cultural drifts would be better. The semi-randomization, I think its fitting, considering the lore I had about SEED's looming of these people. Foster is a given name, to Orphans who sign up with SEED's scholars.))

"Well, Mother Pheoni--" Emma cuts Lacey's eager beginning off with a wave of her hand. Emma crosses her arms, glancing to you and then back to the Ministers.

"No, they cannot. No stress. No combat. No official duties besides standing in front of a crowd and smiling. Not until you're completely healed. That," Here Emma gives a reproachful glance to Lacey, "Is what we all agreed on during the first meeting. Everything is doing just fine."

Lacey looks sheepish, about to protest, but Hoganson puts a hand on her shoulder and shakes his head.

Cephie lingers in the background, eyes scanning faces and features plainly. "I think we should get ready for our trip."

Emma gives you a weak smile, and the Ministers give another bow of their heads. You coordinate with Zero to put together a Hovercraft and escort, who, after approval from Emma, does so. You direct Cephie to your rooms, and while she entertains herself with the telescope, you get dressed. SEED's uniforms are difficult to put on by yourself, but you manage it. Fully dressed in more than just a hospital gown, you settle yourself back in the wheelchair and slump back down.

"So, how did it go? It seems like she let yo--"

"She said we can no longer be lovers."

"Oh. Oh shit." For once in the entire time you've truly known her, Cephiela gives you peace and quiet.

Emerging into the hovercraft pad bay, you find it completely empty, besides for the waiting hovercraft and the escort. A few Crusaders salute as you are brought on to the craft, stepping in with you as Cephie gives out the coordinates for where she hid her ship. Its in a mountain range, in the Outlands, an eight hour trip.

"We'll be back faster, though."

You nod, lapsing into silence along with your Crusader Guards.

The hovercraft lifts off the ground, and begins to accelerate away from the setting sun.

"[Do you want to talk about it, Pheobe?]" Cephie asks, after some time.

"[No.]"

"[Alright. Hey, ask a question-- you like asking questions. The most curious Ascended, that's you!]" Cephie is trying to lift your mood, acting cheerful and chipper.

"[I'm alright.]" You state, a little bluntly, and Cephie nods, settling down into her seat, examining the Crusaders.

It's well past midnight when the hovercraft sets down into a valley -- and you look down from the window, down at the Voidcraft that sits nudged into it. It's gleaming white, ringed with gold arches. Black machinery is framed between the bisected top and bottom. The contours of the vessel flow organically, resembling a bird of prey with wide swooping wings. It's bigger than the smaller cargo hover crafts, sitting at roughly [130 meters] from tip to tail. Cast in a gold-colored material, in High Empyrean, are the words 'Maja Drifter'. Beneath it is a complex, almost fractal barcode.

You step slowly out of the hovercraft, gingerly on legs that feel wobbly. You do not fall, instead, you take in the vessel. "Noble Design Pattern, I see." Cephie beams you a smile at your statement, nodding. "It's huge for a Lander."

"That's what I said, but nooo. You have to fill it to the brim with useless shit."

The Nobility preferred luxury, comfort, and automation. Repairs were usually handled by the chained AI on board, but if something went truly wrong, the entire ship would have to be turned into scrap. They say that each is handcrafted by a team of Ascended Shipwrights -- so no modular components, no improvised repairs, barely any armor, energy-draining heavy shields, and they weren't the fastest ships in the Empyre, by any means. But it looks pretty, and that's all that matters.

Cephie keys in a code to let the two of you inside.

Luxurious could not begin to describe the inside of the vessel. The walls inside are a smooth white, broken up by abstract reliefs of gold, jade, and platinum mounted on the walls. There are a lot of empty surfaces -- shelves, but they aren't sealed off. Cephie catches you looking, stating, bluntly, "The Nobles filled this entire place with the most absolute worthless crap. No concern for if the generators cut off."

There are also way too many sharp edges for a proper Voidcraft, where one of the leading causes of death is head trauma from tripping, but Cephiela has put soft foam down on all the edges to round them off. And the layout-- the layout reminds you more of a cabin or a mansion as opposed to a proper Voidcraft. A fireplace switches on, crackling away with warmth. Built-in couches line it. You hobble through, noticing the engine room would have laid open and bare to the world, were it not for thick, heavy leaded panels sealing it off. "No safety precautions for if anything went wrong." She calls.

The engine hums to life as you investigate the four cryo pods and the two behavior pods. Cephie approaches, eying the pods, "Well, welcome to my home. Those behavior modification pods are designed for Ascended. You don't have to worry about using your will. It'll cut it off."

With a heavy sigh, Cephie slumps on one of the built-in couches around the fire, stretching out languidly. "We're heading back now. We've got four hours to kill. I've got a library -" She gestures to a data-pad sitting on one of the couches, "Its got some videos loaded on it - if it asks for you a password, don't mess with it, is all I ask." You raise your brow, and she grins. A small robot, about hip tall, emerges from one of the walls via a small passageway.

"[Madam Cephiela, and Guest, would you enjoy some wine or alcohol for your trip? We have Ascended brands for you to sample if you so choose.]"

You claim a seat by the data pad, and the robot turns towards a storage rack that looks custom fit into the walls of the ship. It withdraws a bottle of red wine, in green glass no less, and pours it into a carafe. It lets it sit for a few minutes, then brings you glass, even going so far as giving it a swirl for you.

[10-5] You throw it back without regard, and Cephie breaks out into a sharp laugh, much to your embarrassment. The wine burns as it goes down, and your head swims. Your skin warms, and you don't need a mirror to tell you that your skin is already flush. "This wine is designed for our kind -- it actually gets you drunk, Pheobe." Cephie giggles, taking a small sip of her own.

"Oh."

"There's a food assembler nearby -- if you call out to the AI, it will produce whatever you want. Literally. Whatever." Cephie lifts a finger, "Can I get a Malkovian Apple, please, Ay Aɪ." The robot hurries to her side, a white, shining apple splotched with black in its hand. Cephie takes it, and takes a bite, revealing the black inside.

Cephie stares across at you, raising her brow. "All the gods in heaven, you have gone native." She rubs at her face, before deciding, calling out to the artificial intelligence, "[Chickeni Parmesan on spaghetti], please."

Your meal comes out first, set out on a clean, pristine plate. It's steaming hot -- but incredibly simple. No gravy, no sauce, just a piece of rare meat on a plate, with nutrient dust coating atop it. You take a bite. It's delicious. Soft, slightly chewy, more like eating a pate than a steak -- it's slightly off. Something isn't quite right. It's full of umami, full of juiciness, but it seems almost one dimensional. Its the perfect piece of bug meat. But it isn't.

You shrug away your doubts then finish off the piece of steak. Cephie scoops the last bit of pasta and tomato sauce into her mouth. Taking a napkin, she scrubs at the red on her mouth before asking, "Still hungry?"
