Heh. Never thought I'd ever find William's brand of soulless pragmatism reassuring.

"Yes..."

To the barkeep: "...I'm terribly sorry about all this, sir. I swear--" chuckle a little, nervously-- "I swear, I don't usually leave a trail of devastation everywhere I go."

...

Address the cultist.  "I don't suppose you'd like to volunteer some information?  If you are cooperative, you will not be harmed."

You finish half the pot and deposit on the table. The Bartender only grunts in response to your words, and Emma lays against the bar still, breathing in and out with a faint smile. "Too much fun." She murmurs, gently, rising to sit across from the Bartender.

She gently coaxes him into a conversation, and you leave the two at it.

William raises his brow at your declaration, grinning at you. Quietly, "I'm going to have call bullshit on that, Phebe."

The cultist looks up at you and--

[15-5 vs 13] "I..." The Cultist begins, "I don't...know--" You step closer to him, your willpower seeping into his bones, and he flinches again. "I thought I was doing the right thing." He finally whimpers, "That it would be destiny that...that you die here...but...that's wrong-because it didn't happen." The cultist reasons, tears dripping down his cheeks.

"What...what do you want to know?"

"What is the size of your organization and who leads it?"  Might as well get confirmation, even though it's probably the heretic on the list.

"I want to know... who sent you, and why. I want to know if someone's planning to attack me this way again. What is the size of your organization, and who leads it? There's a war on, and I need the people of the Holy City fighting by my side if we're to win it-- not stabbing me in the back."

Speak gentle now, soothing. "I am not an unreasonable [angel]. You are a zealot. Very soon now, I will have need of zealots."

"...I don't know about another attack...but the Church has...two, maybe three hundred members? We...we're lead by the Prophet Linc." The cultist looks across to William, who gives him a crooked smile. Its not very reassuring, and the young man looks down, tears still dripping from his face.

"She...she says you're a [demon], here to corrupt the weak of heart with false promises, and that...the [Plague] is going to liberate us into paradise..."

"Where does Linc live and where is your organization headquartered?"

"She moves us around...we usually get told the location by a Father or Mother."

"Where is your--" Your next question is answered by his eyes flicking to the street outside. "Right. Dead."

"Sorry Phebe. Restraint isn't in the Thornton dictionary." William offers, apologetically.

"Literally. Father had it edited out." Emma calls, breaking away from her conversation with the Barkeep to deliver the punchline. William grins, flashing a thumbs up to Emma, who sighs and shakes her head. The Keep looks a little bit less shocked, glaring daggers at the Cultist from where he sits.

"What armaments and explosives does the 'Church' have, and in what quantity?  Also, how were they acquired?"

"I...I don't know. Our Father had a pallet of assault rifles ready for us when we got there-- and the...the bombers had their vests ready by then too." The Cultist looks over at the bartender and drops his gaze back to the floor.

"We've got a Guardian squad approaching from the North, William." A Warmachine calls into the rubble of the building. "Ten men, heavies. In cover, up the road. Orders? One is approaching."

Ah-hm, we maybe want to be present for this. The voice of an [angel] could make a difference here.

"William-- how much of the street got wrecked besides this pub?"

To the calling Warmachine: "Form up outside. I'll come and explain things."
To William again: "Best keep this one out of sight."

Fine by me. I just figure we can use him to back up what happened.

If this Church is being funded by an arm of SEED, they will want to make sure that there were no survivors of the failed attack.  We shouldn't tip them off to the fact that one survived.

If they see him, they'll probably want to take him.

...man. It hadn't occurred to me that this might've been on SEED's orders. I ain't paranoid enough!

Yeah, I'll edit that out.
