Thank you.

Ah-hm, we maybe want to be present for this. The voice of an [angel] could make a difference here.

"William-- how much of the street got wrecked besides this pub?"

To the calling Warmachine: "Form up outside. I'll come and explain things."
To William again: "Best keep this one out of sight."

Always jars me, how the sizing on my suggestions goes all wonky when quoted...  ::)

Oh god good others see it too. I was worried I was hallucinating.

"Uh...well, the street is filled with bodies, and there's a crater where I'm assuming a bomb went off, and we also shot a rocket to take care of that sniper," William responds. Emma trails behind you, following you out into the cold night.

The man stands on the lip of the crater, hands on his hips. He isn't carrying a weapon, but he stands opposing your Warmachines. Your willpower probes at his-- and finds steel there. A disciplined mind, full of willpower. The Guardian drops to his knees when he sees you-- but rises before you can give him leave, peeling off his helmet. "Well, Mother Alphira. What a circumstance to meet in!" Xavier Mack is smiling a wide, toothy smile at you, his long brown hair curled in a top-knot on his head.

His eyes linger on a Warmachine's red thorn with a brief intensity. "Interesting company you keep, too."

:P

Nod. "Xavier Mack, I take it? I am honored by your presence-- would that we might have met in more peaceable conditions."
Gesture to the slain. "These ones attempted to kill me. Two of my guards lie dead to their rifles."

"On the stars, Mother Alphira knows my name-- without introduction, no less..." Xavier responds, stepping up to a Warmachine as he talks, invading your personal space. He knocks on the armor of one, listening to how hollow it might be. "That explains the corpses, I suppose. Did you blow them up?"

"Thick armor there. I'd have to be right up close to punch through it. Where's William? I see one blondie, but I don't see two." He ducks a nod to Emma, "Emeralda Thornton. I arrested your brother once. I wonder if I'll get the set tonight."

Emeralda!
...Emeralda?
Huh.
Anyway.

Bristle a little. "I should think not, [honorific]* Xavier-- but perhaps you might explain to me what our legal standing is at this time?"

*whatever's appropriate. Brother? Elder? Phoebe probably knows.

You settle on Child, as you technically outrank him. Emma doesn't respond, but blushes, and glances to you at the name. "I"m still conducting an investigation, Mother Alphira." Xavier explains, politely, "Now, if you could kindly answer the questions?"

Heh, two and a half years and we never knew "Emma" was a contraction... I wonder what that's about.

Nod. "I 'blew up'-- er-- some of these. The first ten attackers or so."
"William's in what's left of the pub there."

"So you caused all this damage, then?" Xavier turns to walk into the tavern, offering, "I'm going to go pay my respects to William. See how my favorite drug lord is doing tonight."

I like this guy. He's like a sci-fi dystopia Sam Vimes. :))

"Not really, no... was a suicide bomber, took out the front of the building here. These folks were dedicated."

Follow.

[4 vs 7] "William! Good to see you again. Nice hair." Xavier offers as he strolls in to the bar. William gives him a crooked smile, shifting back into a relaxed slouch. The bartender is standing behind the bar, looking very pale.

"Xavier. Wonderful to see you still alive."

"You almost sound disappointed! Did you get the card I sent you?"

"You mean Jackson?"

"Well having that many unlicensed, untaxed drugs is a capital offense."

"What can I do for you?" William responds bluntly, the smile faltering.

There's a stifled sob from somewhere below the Bartender. Xavier slowly walks over, taking a seat at a remaining stool. "Could you bring me a water, please? And open up the beer cellar while you're at it?"

[10 vs 7] "This bar is Thornton property." William calls out from where he sits, "As of five minutes ago. You cannot legally search it without our consent." He takes a sip of liquor, staring at Xavier.

"Covering your bases, I see. That's right -- unless a certain high ranking officer in the room allows me to." Xavier smiles at you over his water.

Hm. At this point, my inclination is to just bring up the prisoner and have done with it-- we'd be drawing way too much suspicion, leaving him down there.

"And why would I do that?"

I'd rather not surrender the captive, but if he makes us a good offer, I'd be willing to consider it.

What would he even offer us though-- what, but a chance to demonstrate that we've a care to the laws of this city? Legitimacy, remember? If we're to take this world for our own, we've got to maintain that facade of legitimacy.

We don't necessarily have to surrender the captive-- not yet-- but given it's pretty clear to everyone here we have said captive, we might as well show we've nothing to hide yes?

I uh, don’t know why we captured a person?
Did he stop trying to kill us?
