True. Should ask where dad works.
From what you understand from Ali's explanation, it sounds like Dad is responsible for moving things around, though he doesn't move things around himself. He makes others move things for him. And he does that because other people tell him to. And all this happens because everyone involved in this receives credits for doing so. It all sounds unnecessarily complicated to you. Probably not the sort of thing you could do. Maybe if you could convince him you're good enough at moving things around, he could take you with him to work with the other people moving things around.
We should ask Ali if she thinks Eiwhyl might know what the red powder is. Poking the vial and saying "Eiwhyl know" should be enough.
If we're lucky it'll be worth a decent amount and we can work out a way to pay mum and dad back for all the food we eat.
+1
But don't let Ali's parents see it.
If Ali thinks that Eiwhyl would know what the powder is we should ask her to call Eiwhyl tomorrow. Ask Ali to describe the powder and say that she saw it on the T.V and was curious about it.
I don't know that we want to ask Ali to lie, But we could go ask ourselves.
As Ali is lying on her bed, you bring one of the vials to her and ask her "Eiwhyl what?"
Ali looks at you for a few seconds before she finally figures out what you mean.
"Oh."
A few more seconds of thought.
"Yes?" she says, though she sounds uncertain. Some more words, also uncertain.
You decide that's good enough. You wait for everyone to fall asleep before donning your pack and venturing outside. Just like last time, only the smartvac is there to greet you. You make your way up to level 5 and go to Eiwhyl's door. Unlike last time, the door is closed. You press the OPEN button but instead of causing the door to open, the green button starts flashing. Nothing happens for a few seconds.
"Who. " Eiwhyl demands.
The loud sound causes you to jump in surprise.
"What do you want?" she continues demanding an answer.
You look around, trying to find where she is. It takes you a second to come to terms with the fact that her voice is coming from the button.
"I swear, if you kids are playing tricks on me again, I'm going to catch you and I'm going to shove my-"
"Draggy!" you interject, worried that her shouting might attract attention.
A pause.
"Who?" she asks for clarification.
Maybe she can't hear you very well through the hole in the button. You lean against the wall so you can bring your mouth close to the button and repeat your answer.
"Draaaggyyyy!"
Another pause. Then the door opens.
Eiwhyl is behind her counter, looking somewhat disheveled, her clothes loose, her hair unkempt. She looks even grumpier than last time.
"Well? Come in." she orders you impatiently.
You walk through the doorway. She does something under the counter and the door closes behind you.
"So?" she asks with her arms crossed.
You approach her and use your mouth to remove a vial from your pack and leave it on the counter.
"What." you say.
She stares at it for a second. She then picks it up with the tips of her thumb and forefinger, wipes it with a piece of cloth and unseals it. She pours a small quantity of the dust in a glass dish and then uses a syringe to drop a few drops of some liquid on it. The two react, the dust bubbling, the liquid evaporating into blue smoke that quickly disperses.
"This is medicine." she finally says. "Strong one."
You look at her intently, trying to make her understand that you want to know more, but she ignores you.
"Where did you get this?"
You're not sure how you should answer that. So instead you ask what you want to know.
"Credits?"
She looks thoughtful for a moment.
"Where did you get this?" she repeats her question.
"And how much do you have?" she asks after another second of thinking.
