Can someone explain to me what the magma piston is and how it works? I'm just mesmerized by that gif.

It's a way to rapidly bring a lot of magma to the surface instantaneously. How it works is that a large mass of rock is dropped via cave in over the magma, and the falling rock displaces the magma to the surface. You can see in the gif the rock all vaporises and in its place all the magma appears

Those clouds look awfully close - will AV keep working if you pierce them?

It seems to me that the clouds are located just over the highest map level so it's techically impossible to pierce them.

...And, oh, is that a conning tower?

No, definitely no.

That's an interesting POV from interesting guest. Quite unlucky, to have one visit as scholar. Unfortunately for them, luck alone ain't gonna cut it.

Though I'm lil confused - gray banshee kill, but werepanda attacker? Somebody else got the kill?

Lots of work on the ship. Got to say, when you started I was imagining a sailship. Now, the ship has no windows - or in another way, the whole ship is a window.

I don't know if you run around in adv mode? If you do, might want to knock out some hell's walls for locked doors that the adventurer could lockpick.

Also, 7x4 is huge, and that's somewhere over 10k jobs in large cavernous space - now I can't help but wonder what's your fps like, 7?

These grand skylights to surface will proceed to take it even lower. The abandoned pastures will freeze over once the digging reaches them, I guess - but at that point, could just move animals to graze in hell.

Yes, the pick that severed werepanda's hands did not end his life. Somebody else did, I don't remember who exactly.

I can't help but wonder what's your fps like, 7?

Yes, exactly this.

Miners prepared next cave-in, soon there'll be sunny on the bottom of drained magma sea:

It's sunny now:

According to dwarven physics the whole stone pillar disappeared at once except stones and gems that were previously detached from the pillar by miners' picks and were laying here and there. Those stones and gems immediately began to fall.

I found out that Armok Visions shows gems, they're very small, it's very hard to see them in ordinary circumstances:

Glorified pick nevertheless, though severing werepanda's hands makes them only more likely to bite ^^;

There's been muddied SMR before.

But I think you may have an unique opportunity on this embark now - with 44.05 digging changes, one became unable to make large SMR skylights by obsidian-casting and digging again.

However, if you drop ice floors on it, then melt them to remove magma flow floors, then pond water to ice cast the SMR wall, I think you should be able to dig it - with no retire needed.

The midair hanging rockslide (gemslide?) is positively eerie.

Though the skylight feels like something out of a rainforest, not  glacier - feels like a river made it. Though your dwarves are a terraforming force of nature alright....

....Hold on, is that skylight in the shape of a ship laying on its side?

Only in the upper edges I can see the ice ledges, but I guess in retrospect on web image I may have been mistaken.

"The ship is visible only because dwarves vomitted everywhere." =D

Does it looks prettier after clean map dfhack command? Though you're right; I think I could get lost in it - I think I can see the ground through it. Good work as always!

That ship - with the in-game image, it becomes clear it's almost completely grey and green! Without Armok Vision, one would barely have any idea it uses ice.

Which really shows the importane of choice of visualizer.

The new thing looks to be arcing upwards - perhaps a ring; a symbolic hyperdrive from sci-fi? Or a coilgun, perhaps.

I do wonder what the cave-ins will be used for. I see one hole, second hole, third hol...Yet a pattern, I don't yet detect.

It's a shame climbing is so unreliable; otherwise the miners would be quite a bit more useful on cliff faces.

Grand things in the works!  :D
...perhaps you'll be able to run some magma over the top when all's said and done, to burn off the vomit.

From that height and distance, I can only assume nether-cap buckets worked?

Also magma+ice is going to look...true to molten rock being opaque like a lava lamp. Which this thing essentially is. Wonder how it'd appear with rendermax once lava is pumped in?

Under glacier feels like it is underwater.

It looks like the "something" might be a catchment basin.

And its still huge construction; though between the pond zone limits and approach angles the usable surface is limited. I wonder, how many idlers do you have typically?

Dwarves got problems with monolithic ice in the new part of the ship, water freezes in buckets. Dwarves tried nether-cup buckets of constant temperature but it didn't help, water freezes anyway. So dwarves started to build the shorter bridgeway from the magma-tower:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Finished it:

Population keeps on decreasing, just 14 dwarves remained. Dwarves prayed to Armok but...

I found out that migrants won't come if there are too many units on the map. Trying to resolve the issue I had to alter source code of two prayers:
