Name: Jack Spades
Race:
AarakocraClass: Arcanist of
Fortune’s WheelsStarting ability: Has a magic deck of cards; each card has its own spell on it (getting more powerful as the number increases, with special types for the faces and aces), and with different elements for each suit (ice diamonds, earth clubs, fire hearts, and wind spades) and completely wild card jokers. At present, the deck will only let him hold one card at a time without “discarding” his previous card back into the deck. Drawing takes a couple seconds.
Physical description: Jack is lean, which makes him seem taller than he actually is. The feathers across his body are mostly white, with a variety of pink, light yellow, and other such colors scattered throughout it; his wings, however, are an iridescent black, like a crow’s. His eyes are a bright gold.
Personality/mental description: Jack likes people. He just also like explaining things and don’t like ignorance, which can get in the way of other people liking him.
Jack also likes gambling, though mostly just for fun, between friends, and for small amounts of money, if any.
Jack likes magic things. Using them is kinda like gambling, and they’re much more interesting than static stuff like coins and gold and that kind of stuff. Mechanical things are cool too, though they’re more interesting when you can see all the moving parts.
There’s a reason why Jack decided to be an adventurer.
Backstory: Jack wasn’t a soldier, but he did plenty with them; those that were stationed near his town were frequent customers to his gambling house, and they were more than happy to chat. The world was getting bigger, but there was less room for soldiers: fewer wars, more wildlands, fewer enemies, more dungeons. It didn’t mean much to Jack, or at least to his life, until one day, one of the army’s battlemages came in and bet a deck of cards he’d made to whoever could make the most in a game of poker. Jack joined, intrigued, and won himself an enchanted deck. Thinking about what he’d heard before, Jack decided to go become an adventurer, and take some higher risks for sweeter rewards.
And besides, if there were any people that would be fun gamblers, it was going to be adventurers.
