Year 1 - Reaction Phase:Stuff involving the year's action phase, inventory management, and hand management happens during the reaction phase. There was no action phase this year, and nobody has any resources or cards in their hand to manage, so
we will skip a full explanation of the reaction phase this year. The one thing we do care about this year happens at the very end of the Reaction Phaes:
Discard -After wealth is banked, all cards remaining in the hands of a player are placed in a single discard pile. Then, one card is discarded from the top of the deck for each player who had no cards to discard.
None of you saved any cards to discard, so that means this turn's discard pile will consist of five cards from the deck!Discard Pile:
Queen-o-Hearts
King-o-Hearts
Six-o-Spades
Jack-o-Spades
King-o-Spades
Year 1 - Fallout Phase:The fallout phase is when fate, the NPCs, and vassals with time remaining on their hands may have their fun. Dukes do not act during the fallout phase; Their only means of managing these proceedings is to control what goes into the discard pile, and manipulate the players who are controlling minor characters.
The Fallout Phase is split into three parts, which occur in the following order: Industrial Fallout → Fate Fallout → Character Fallout
Industrial Fallout -During Industrial Fallout, constructions that produce resources may hit. A construction hits if any card within its hit range exists in the discard pile during Industrial Fallout. A construction gains one resource in an empty storage slot when it hits. A non-castle construction that hits while its storage capacity is full trades in all Material, Food, Might, and Chemical units it is holding to bank a random mystery card as wealth, and then gains the new resource in a newly freed up storage slot. A castle that hits while its storage capacity is full may do the same OR transfer the created resource to the inventory of its lord.
Buildings that Hit This Year:Mane Manor in the Duchy of Strognar Hits! Chose and store a unit of Food, Chemicals, Might, or Material!
Castle T-Hawk in Halfpipe Duchy Hits! Chose and store a unit of Food, Chemicals, Might, or Material!
Stahlheim Keep in The Duchy of Talis Hits! Chose and store a unit of Food, Chemicals, Might, or Material!
Fate Fallout -During Fate Fallout, particular cards and combinations of cards trigger specific events to occur. Events occur in the following order, and each card in the discard pile may only be used to trigger a single event.
Fertility Moon: (The king and queen of a single suit) Every Count and/or Duke who’s defining card share the same suit as the marriage, may gain a ‘youthful heir’ resource in an empty storage slot in their castle.
The King and Queen of Hearts are in the discord pile, so we get a fertility moon this year!Arrivals: (Two cards of different suits but the same value) A new neutral NPC character is spawned. A-10 spawns a wandering NPC. Kings, Queens, and/or Jacks spawn an NPC with a castle.
The King-o-Hearts has already been used as part of the fertility moon, so it cannot pair off with the King-o-Spades. No other duplicates exist in the discard pile this year, so no arrivals.Departures: (Any single card that matches the card representing a Wandering NPC) The NPC represented by the departure card leaves the game under circumstances decided by the GM.
There are no wandering NPCs in the game yet!Positive Global Event: (Any single queen) Each duchy makes a luck roll. A global event occurs that directly benefits all duchies that pass. If there is also a Joker in the discard pile, this event becomes more intense, and magical in nature.
The Queen-o-Hearts has already been used as part of a fertility moon, so it cannot trigger a positive global event.Negative Global Event: (Any single king) Each duchy makes a luck roll. A global event occurs that directly harms all duchies that fail. If there is also a Joker in the discard pile, this event becomes more intense, and magical in nature.
The King-o-Hearts has already been used as part of a fertility moon, so it cannot trigger a negitive global event. The King-o-Spades, however.... Oh boy.Global Quest: (Any single jack) Some great challenge or quest is posed to the Kingdom! The first duchy to complete it in time will receive a reward! If there is also a Joker in the discard pile, this event becomes more intense, and magical in nature.
The Jack-o-Hearts indeed triggers a global quest!Fertility Moon:Count Oliver Thricesixty of The Rail may choose to store a Youthful Heir in his castle!
Duchess Sybille Emanchild of Talis may choose to store a Youthful Heir in her castle!
Global Event: Kobold Uprising! The Kobold population of Bestland, long content to dwell in the shadows and live off the scraps of their human betters, have taken the disappearance of the king and shuffling of the land to be a sign! Their prophets preach that the time has come to overthrow humanity! Rabble rousing Kobold leaders rise, intent on challenging the various Dukes of the Land!
Duchy of Strongnar - 2 - Fail
Shalesbury Islands - 1 - Critical Fail
Halfpipe Duchy - 4 - Pass
Duchy of Oboson - 2 - Fail
Duchy of Talis - 6 - Pass
In Strognar Duchy, the uprising is lead by an alchemist named Puck, who taught himself the human arts of letters and chemical mixing by slinking around the old royal guild halls.
The Kobolds of The Shalesbury Islands are lead by the Charismatic and evasive Masked Kobold, a mysterious figure who may have once served as a spy for King Awesomus. The Masked Kobold seems to have eyes and ears in Shalesbury Castle, as he quickly arranged and built a small camp to organize and train his soldiers, right on the spot where Duke Drauningshire was planning to build a mill!
The Shalesbury Islands Mill Construction Site has been canceled: Rival Construction Project Completed on Site.A young but enthusiastic shroom-farmer by the name of Jacktooth leads the rebels in the land of Oboson. He and his kobold band have already proven to be quite the nuisance to the locals!
The Kobolds of Talis have no interest in rebelling; Most still remember the kindness shown to them decades ago by the late Duke Emanchild.
Rebellion also fails to take hold in the Halfpipe Duchy, as Kobold leaders and soldiers kill each other in a particularly gnarly bout of infighting.
Global Quest: Bride Price! What a stroke of luck! Princess Luckyus, daughter of the king and dabbling chemist, somehow managed to escape the fate of her family! She has taken refuge at a run down guild hall, and seeks to marry into one of the high houses of Bestland so that she may aid in the quest to rescue her father.
The princess, however, is a stickler for tradition, and refuses to go to the altar unless a proper bride price is paid. As her father is not around to receive the money, Luckyus will use the payment herself to repair and restaff the guild hall she is currently dwelling in.
Quest Conditions: Be the first duchy to deliver both a unit of wealth and any 'heir' resource to the run down guild hall.
Quest Prize: Control of a Guild. Control of an Unlanded Noble.
Character Fallout -Character fallout is when all the minor characters get to act on their own accord based on the cards in the discard pile.
We won't do character fallout year 1.---

Year 1 - Complete!Alright. I need to figure out how I'm going to do the map, and also finalize a few mechanics for the action phase. I'm busy for the next few days, so this will likely happen sometime Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.
Once this is done, things should start moving fast around here. In the meantime feel free to have your characters RP.
None of you actually got the opportunity to be in the same place this year, so perhaps flavor your RP as correspondence by letter.
If anybody wishes to join as either a count or one of the Kobold Rebel Leaders, they may apply to do so now!
Also, I would like each player to repost and update the spoiler containing their duchy status!
