ORIENT: A Spaceship Design Game
« on: October 15, 2017, 01:36:39 pm »

Day 1: You awaken to find yourself adrift in space. Four tiny walls are all that separates you from the deadly void beyond. It looks as though you're on an escape pod, but your hibernation pod is damaged beyond repair. Your scans show you have 10 oxygen, and you are consuming it at a rate of 1 oxygen per day. You also have 10 food, which you consume one per day. You must research and build yourself a way out of this mess. You think you can manage 3 actions per day.

Work out someway to grow edible plants or algae. If we can mcgyver some green living things out of a pile of metal then we'll have both oxygen and food sorted (or at least extended).

Attempt to clone plants from your food to recycle oxygen.

See if this escape pod can get you somewhere that has actual material to work with. Propulsion of some kind shouldn't be that difficult to do, should it?

SURVIVAL STEP ONE:
Analyze your environment: Is anything dangerous nearby? Can you see anything outside (Doesn't appear to be a window..)?

STEP TWO:
What do you HAVE?: What is your broken hibernation pod made of, and can it be broken into parts (IF NECESSARY!) What are your skills and what else is in the pod? (i.e., look around and tell us what exactly there IS)

STEP THREE:
Are there any designs/notes/information bits on the Orient PDA you can access? Read them all (We've got a full day!)

We can only do 3 actions per day.

You decide to zoom in for clarity.

Day 2: You spent most of yesterday trying to figure things out. You use your PDA to scan the immediate area around your ship, and it seems that there is nothing in the immediate vicinity. You come to the conclusion that propulsion would be necessary to really get anywhere. And how hard could that be? Its not like its rocket sci-... hmmm.

You examine the broken hibernation pod. It seems that it can be broken down into another 100 metals. Underneath it you discover the pod's power supply! Luckily it seems that nothing is drawing power from the battery and you have full charge. As for your skills, you cannot exactly remember who you are, much less what your skills are. For all you know you could have been born yesterday. Though this seems unlikely, as most things come naturally to you, like being able to break down a pod and contemplating interstellar propulsion.

You go through your PDA looking for notes. It seems like you could build just about anything using the information and tools that come with the PDA. It comes down to a question of time. You begin going through the data and it seems like perhaps this PDA belonged an engineer or something, it has lots of information on it, but mostly requires a search function to get to the stuff. If you were looking for somethingspecific, you could likely find some information on it. You type in food production and locate something called a Biomass recycler. It seems less than appetizing, but it should extend your food budget.

Fine, if we can't clone plants, let's just build a carbon scrubber. It's pretty conceptually straightforward.

First, I’d say to see what means we have of restructuring or modifying matter. Second, observe our food supply for pieces of food that could be grown, from seeds to...well, I can’t think of anything over than seeds. Third, though, we need to observe how our, ahem, waste, is managed, and make sure it is preserved to possibly grow food with, and the liquids for potential filtration and eventual reconsumption.

Work on a potential forum game for my return to Bay12. Figure out parts that puzzled me before. Find more things to figure out that I can't. Work on another game instead of solving them. Get distracted and stop working. Remember it a week or two later. Remember I'm still on hiatus. Illogically, Be too ashamed to return yet. Repeat ad nauseam.

Finally have a game completely ready. Wait a week before posting it out of laziness.

+1, but don't turn it on immediately.

Look up plans for a vacuum-proof door. Build a wall out of metal, with an open doorframe, a fourth of the way down from the north side of the ship.

Finally, check if the pod contains any domed glass or cloth. We ideally want a space suit.

Examine our current clothing. What are we wearing?

We obviously need to build the tiny engine, but how to mount it?

Once we can move, we can try to find more debris from the ship or a small body to land on and set up base.

Action 1: Recycle sleep pod.
Action 2: Research and build an airlock system (and space suit if possible?)
Action 3: Build spacesuit (or if we can fold that into the airlock system, some sorta auto applying space suit when going out that way) construct small engine on outside of ship.

build airlock, mount engine inside of airlock, open back side of airlock.
