"You there! Does Baires Ferdon reside there?" Cullen asked as he pointed at the house.

"Y-Yes sir! That's his house!"

"Is he in?"

"N-No sir!"

"Then I'll just have to wait here until he gets back."

The villager didn't seem to mind the development, going back to staring at the sky, or whatever he was doing in the middle of the road.

"You know what, there's no day like today. Tomorrow there might be rioting and blood on the streets and you won't have an opportunity to propose to anyone. Where's she right now? I can probably fly you there."

The man pocketed something citrine and shiny as Halbjorn and Mattias approached.

"Ain't none o' them around here lad. Prolly just a bunch o' poor merchant boys turned thieves because they're too scared to join the military. 'Sides, even if there were some the mayor's above rebellion so they wouldn't be here by his house."

:"Uhhh, hello there."

"Hey," the youth disinterestedly regarded Kristijan, seemingly too busy staring at his ruby necklace to face the young soldier. "I'm about to be in the middle of something so make it quick."

"That's real, uh... swell of you, but you probably don't want to be carting me all the way out to the fields and back. You're in the middle of an investigation, aren't you?"

Kristijan tried not to let his glance at the ruby necklace be too obvious.

Matthias shrugged and stayed where he was.
