As Stella is taken off him, he points to the laser gunners, "Stay on those guns. Anything come through after me, shoot it until it stops moving, then shoot it some more. Those things might try and follow us!" He turns to the executives, "You may want to back up to a safe distance. A full debriefing will come later, but we encountered creatures that should not have been there. I believe I told someone to take a sample. Stella, I think, though she may have given it to moneybags over there," he gestures to Danh. "Make of that what you wish. I think that there's a shower with my name on it around here somewhere if nothing comes through in the next hour or so."

The gate closed, and the stunned looking executive breathed out and laughed, nervously at first, then with a plastic polish. "I can't wait to read the aggregate report."

To their credit the laser gunners watched the space alertly anyway. There was a small department of six that aggregated suit video feed to create an audiovisual report at the end for the executive teams. Some would be sold to the newsreel, and featured in an action report.

"I'll fill in whatever reports I need to after my shower. It'd make a good script for a action-slash-horror movie or game, I can tell you that much right now. Page me if the portal opens while I'm gone."

Danh silently and begrudgingly begins heading off to the gear return area, while wiring Ricardo 200 credits.
He didn't like doing it, but there's few things worse than someone who skimps out on a failed gamble.

With that done, he wanders off to his quarters to do...whatever it is Danh does in his quarters 24/7.

End of Mission Summary and Report.

The Board of Directors is labeling this mission as a success, though not an unmitigated one. The team was tasked with determining whether the gates could return, and in that sense, they were successful. The loss of the facility on the fire side is deeply disappointing to the Directors, but they understand that time was a critical factor, and there is only so much even a skilled engineer could be expected to reverse engineer in two hours.

The Directors were pleased that a sample of the alien creatures was recovered from the facility. According to analysis, it seems to contain complex organosilicate structures that lab technicians believe to be artificial. Details will be made available in a subsequent paper, available to those willing to pay. [Will post details in HQ]

Individual employee assessments and rewards are as follows. In addition to the 3kc promised to each of you, you will receive a bonus of Akras Stock based on your performance evaluation. This may be sold at any time for the present market value, available in the most recent news post.

Frazz Goldman 50 Shares
Goldman took early command of the mission, though he was quickly harrowed by the events unfolding around him. Human Resources credits him for his important medical work in keeping Kaito Yoritomo capable and fighting. Frazz will be moved temporarily to low-intensity assignments while his medical needs are evaluated.

Kaito Yoritomo 30 shares
Kaito Yoritomo provided competent cover fire and assistance, but was not presented with an opportunity to take the lead on any important projects, having been injured numerous times over the course of the mission. Human Resources credits his timely intervention for de-escalating the conflict between his team mates partway into the mission. The Board looks forward to seeing Kaito's talents under better circumstances.

Stella Evenglide 80 shares
Despite severe injuries, Stella Evenglide proved exemplary. Beginning early in the mission, her sensor proficiency was able to calculate a timetable to the drones' arrival that allowed the team to take superior positions. Her flanking maneuver, while suggested by another member of her team, was a tremendous success, thanks in part to her singular strike that eliminated the drone in a single blast. While heavily wounded, she was able to neutralize an enemy, and collect samples, the only samples returned to us. The board strongly values these samples, and she is being rewarded accordingly.

Danh Loi 60 shares
Danh Loi's effectiveness on this mission was unquestionable. He is personally responsible for the destruction of two malfunctioning drones, and rushed to provide critical supporting fire when the alien security measures were deployed. Danh was effective in showing restraint, reminding others on multiple occasions to preserve the value in the facility, and minimized the damage from his own explosives. However, Danh Loi displayed a mix of personality disorders on this mission. He is encouraged to seek medical attention.

Ian Klemmer 20 shares
Ian Klemmer's performance on this mission was most disappointing. Although he was able to patch a damaged space suit early in the mission, he quickly fell into an apparent fugue, taking very little initiative and performing only those orders his squadmates requested directly of him. The loss of the facility reflects poorly on him, however digital analysis shows that ultimately, he took risks to save the station that were not inadvisable.

John Boiy 40 shares
A young archaeologist, Boiy was one of the early volunteers for this mission. Despite a lack of combat training, he was able to assist in the destruction of a drone. He made important findings in the observation room that helped to direct the team's task, and worked diligently through heavy fire to try to save the station. While he was ultimately unsuccessful, his efforts were duly noted.

Ricardo de Castillo 80 shares
Ricardo's unorthodox methods of warfare are more reminiscent of the Green Arrow than a soldier, preferring to fight with a mix of primitive weaponry. Analysts were initially very skeptical of this, however de Castillo ultimately proved them wrong, acquitting himself far above expectations. De Castillo was able to meaningfully damage a drone with his bow, but more importantly was able to use his melee weapons to expose both the heavy combat drone and the alien security device that is being referred to in the lab as a 'Horror Knight' to heavier fire. Ricardo provided the impetus to collect samples of the aliens that the lab techs are referring to as 'Rushers', and is being suitably rewarded. The Board wishes to express, however, their desire to see Castillo replace his bow with a standard magnetic pdw on subsequent missions.

Wolfram von Steinheil 50 shares
Wolfram von Steinheil acquitted himself well, providing excellent services as an archaeologist and interpreter. He was able to discern the layout of the facility, and to create a framework for sorting addresses which should render dialing home trivial in the future. The Board of Directors is pleased with the care and excellence with which von Steinheil performs his duties.

Sertan Tarf 70 shares
Sertan Tarf excelled in this mission, both as a leader and a combatant. Frequently assuming command of the squad, Sertan displayed extraordinary tactical prowess and accuracy with his weapon, killing two drones, leading a maneuver to outflank a heavy drone, and destroying many of the alien defenses, including the 'Horror Knight'.

Vigil Henderson 40 shares
Vigil's performance in this mission was exceptional. He provided medical services to save a valuable member of Akras' team after rushing into a battle he knew little about. He provided critical battlefield initiative in the battle against the heavy combat drone. The Board notes with some pleasure that Vigil was helpful in nearly every stage of the mission, appearing frequently as an assistant, but encourages him to specialize further.

Jonathan Cross 20 shares
Cross performed professionally, engaging in firefights competently throughout the mission. Cross took very little initiative in the mission, participating competently in firefights and providing important support, but was ultimately unable to display the level of excellence his personnel file led us to expect. Akras notes that like Vigil, his broad array of abilities made him a useful support on the mission, and notes that his deference to others may have been due to his confidence in Sertan's planning capabilities. He willingly engaged every enemy, often placing himself in danger. The Board recommends in future that Cross have more confidence, and hopes to see him excel in smaller, more focused teams.

Stella glances at Kaito, and then the execs. "I will be fine. I may need significant abdominal surgery, however, and potentially medication to repair lung damage due to being exposed to vacuum."

Mission 2 Begins.

Staff:
Tina Murdoch, Drone Specialist
John Boiy, Archaeologist
Stella Evenglide, Gauss Specialist
Sertan Tarf, Security
John Cross, Support and Security

Murdoch, Boiy, Evenglide, Cross, and Tarf sat at a conference table in a meeting room at Akras Mars, planning out their operation. The room was brightly lit. Two of the walls were glass, and overlooked the red landscape of Terra Cimmeria, Mars.

Potted palms sat in the corners where the walls met the windows, and in the third corner there was a large, flowering plant, each maintained by an automated planter connected to the central systems. The table in the center of the room lit up with a layout of the Castle on Mars, and the surrounding facility. The team's first challenge was to hypothesize, design, and assemble a system to carry the bomb, as well as drones and construction materials, from the Starport to the Castle. This system could not rely on automation, but must be workable by human staff.

[Tina Murdoch + Priscilla]

Tina sits at the table, with Priscilla by her side. Tina's looking a little more presentable, having taken a shower before getting here, her hair's still a bit wet.
She's got her laptop to her other side, so she can control Priscilla, as she is on more direct control, to make Tina more accustomed to controlling her that way.
"I-I talked with... Miss Nakatomi. R-rails is an option. Also... conveyor belts. S-so... conveyor belt to the gate, and rails on the other side. R-rails can be unpowered, aft-ter all."
Tina uploads a few building blocks, representing conveyors and rails.
"B-build the rails, then... we send in the cargo, c-construction drones, getting them a safe distance from the gate, so it's less likely to get... interference. I can... manually control, single drones. L-least likelihood of rogue drones."
Tina uploads blocks representing the various cargo, like material or drones. Along with trains, to move them along the rails.
"E-each shipment, will be transported by trains... they're rudimentary, controlled by button input. No antennas to receive... interference."

"B-but... what should be sent first? D-drones... materials... bomb? Each shipment can contain all... but if you want more of one thing... you can raise it's priority."

((I'm dreading that I'll post blatantly false information in such a long post.))

"I am not sure that having multiple construction drones is wise, given that they seem to become hostile after an unknown amount of time. Taking direct control of one may be the best option."

Stella pauses.

"The bomb should be sent last to prevent damage. The materials should be sent first so initial assembly can begin that does not require a drone. Therefore, the drone should be sent second. However, if we do use multiple drones, they should be sent first so that any potential issues can be dealt with before the situation becomes too complex."

The project consisted of three parts. First, constructing a delivery mechanism on this side. Then, sending through a bomb. Then constructing an unloading facility on the far side. There were many approaches to consider.

[Tina Murdoch + Priscilla]

"W-well... we can have rails and conveyors to the gate. It should be on... rails when going through, s-so it already has the train and wheels."
Tina sets up a simple system from our side to gate. Conveyor until it's just outside the gate interference area, at which point it's transitioned to rail, and then sent into the gate interference area on our side.

"I have a... plan, for the unloading facility. O-on the far side."
Tina uploads a premade schematic, consisting of 5 facilities. For the far side unloading facility.
"This is... the Hub. It has a few redundancies, but can only run at... partial efficiency. It needs... these, to operate at full capacity."
The Hub is to be located at a minimal safe distance from the gate. It's a secondary power, crew, drone, and signal provider. It's also where the bomb is (as it is central, it'll destroy as big of an area as possible). It can partially power the other facilities if the power facility is disabled.
Extending from the Hub is 4 facilities that have minimal self sufficiency, able to hold a small garrison for a limited time.
The facility closest to the gate is the crew facility, well inside the interference area, as humans are the least affected by the interference. Also it ensures that men are always present to accept reinforcements from the gate (in case the hub falls out of Akras control), or to combat anyone attacking through the gate (as they'll have to go through the crew facility before reaching the Hub).
The facility farthest away is the signal facility, at maximum safe distance, which has an uplink to the drones. If this facility goes rogue, so do all of the drones, so it must avoid interference.
The other two facilities are the power and drone facilities, as far away from the gate as the Hub is.

((Think of it in a + shape. Crew toward the gate, signal away from the gate, with power and drone to left or right.))

"If a facility goes rogue, they can be manually disconnected."
There are 6 power cables. Three from the Hub to the crew, drone, and signal facility. But there's three going from the power facility to the Hub.
The reason there's 3 cables to the power facility rather than 1 big cable, is standardization. One size fits all.
"If the s-signal facility... goes rogue, then disconnect the cable a-and it's ability to hack the other drones is... severely limited. And the drone facility... can't power as many drones if it's main power is cut. If a cable is damaged, then you can... temporarily, stay in the Hub, and use the crew quarters' cable to replace the damaged cable... until fixed."
Tina takes a breathing break, to relax.

Seemed like a good workable solution. Get hard lines from power to a central hub to other stations, and you limit the operating lifespan of drones in an emergency. Still, service drones had hours of service power between charges, so they could do a lot of damage.

With no one objecting, the meeting concluded with designs on making a rail system for the gate. Only Tina was really capable of building, so she was going to get to work, with the others meeting up when the bomb system was ready to go clear the far side.

[Tina Murdoch + Priscilla]

Tina thought of using Priscilla to do work here, but she's not on castle side, so she'll use construction drones for now.
Tina uses the standard construction drones to do the rail system on Homeside.
She'll most definitely utilize Priscilla on the farside though.

Edit: ((Didn't pay attention, I'll edit.))

Tina uses Priscilla to do the rail construction work on Homeside, seeing as even here, there's interference going on.
That and it gives her some training on controlling the drone on the farside. She expects the interference to be even worse there.

Edit2: ((With the time taking 14 days for Priscilla while 1 for the construction drones, I'll edit in extra.))

After a couple hours, Tina realizes this just takes too long, and utilizes one of the construction drones.
Though she's very clearly reluctant to do so.
