There have been a significant level of writings created by the government of Turbados as to their own legitimacy. However, an analysis by many historians have revealed that they are attempting to change their own past, and sometimes even the present day, upon several fronts.
Take their first claim that it had been the natives of the island that had rose up against the Spanish in a revolution to form their current government. This statement is merely a recent political statement by their government in order to seem more legitimate than they truly are. The reality of the situation is that up until your request for information upon the island, they have stood by the statement that their government was a result of pirates having seized the island from the Spanish and establishing their own. They are currently only claiming that their government was a result of a popular uprising now in order to appear more legitimate than they truly are. This sudden change is indicative of a terrifying likelihood that the government is attempting to suppress truth and making their history change to suit the policy of their leaders rather than what their history truly is.
Imagine, for a second, what could be possible if this thought were to spread, where government are willing to change their past in order to prevent their population from knowing their true past. A government willing to make the population believe facts that are not reality, and willing to change reality to suit their own whims. They are already claiming that the Juraki nation had not been a true nation despite its numerous dealings with the outside world. How long might it be until their government claims the Juraki government was never in existence and destroy all evidence of the entire civilization? How long might it be until their government claims that the Spanish never held rule over the islands and purges the influence to destroy culture? Under such a government, modern civilization as a whole would be destroyed.
Their claims of the revolution are not the only aspects that show evidence proving this falsehood. They claim that they have abandoned slavery, but many rescued former Juraki citizens paints a far different story. The former citizens of Juraki have been turned into slaves themselves, where the simple state of not being whipped is considered a great reward, and the punishments placed upon them are so horrifying that they cannot be properly stated. While you may think this is only prisoners of war, or former members of the Juraki military, the truth is that this is levied against every single person of Juraki descent, no matter their status before Juraki fell or the fact that some may have only been born just before the fall.
As a further interesting point, they claim trickery on the part of the Juraki. While the war crimes committed by that nation are horrific, they also omit a part of the truth about that final battle. During the final days of the war, a peace was to be made through the leaders of both nations fighting in a duel to the death. We have spoken with some of the few surviving witnesses, and they have revealed to us what occurred during that battle. The Juraki Shogun had managed to prove victorious, armed with only basic weapons and limited armor against the man who appeared to be the El Presidente, who was armed with a heavy machine gun and a massive set of armor, meaning that according to the deal, the Juraki had won the war. However, something was soon revealed as the Shogun had proceeded to walk towards his foe Upon removing the helmet guarding his foes head, it was found that his foe was not the El Presidente as the terms of the duel had specified, but some lowly engineer that had been forced into the battle. Some may wonder why this information is not commonplace, and this is due to the Canallans shelling the site of the battle after it ended. This shelling is what started the whole mess that led to the chaos that destroyed the former Juraki capital. In fact, the gas that was supposedly deployed by the Juraki was spotted to have been released due to a likely Canallan plane crashing into a storage facility. However, yet again the Canallan government has changed the truth to state that it wasn’t the Shogun, but their El Presidente that had won the battle, and the disaster within the city was caused by deliberate actions of the Juraki, rather than either an accident or a sinister attempt to purge the residents of the former capital from their new nation.
Further, while they do claim freedom for their citizens, this is also false. For proof, all you need to do is look towards the “One Man, One Vote” policy the government has implemented. While the name may first seem that everyone gets a vote, in truth, the policy states that only a single person gets to cast a single vote in their elections, their El Presidente, who only ever votes for himself. Further, if someone dares to challenge him, such as the recently attack Captain Redbeard, they are not simply denied a chance to free their people, but they are also branded a traitor for merely daring to question that their El Presidente should be removed. Yet despite this, they still have the gall to state that the Forenian political parties are all one and the same. Perhaps they only state that because they have never had the chance to ever be allowed to make a choice of their own.
It is further interesting to note just what the freedom they so highly espouse entails. As pointed out above, it can be seen that this freedom is not that of voting or representation. This freedom that they espouse is instead that they are allowed to take whatever they want for any reason legally. No matter how hard you may work in your life to provide for your family and to help improve your standing, everything you have ever worked for can be taken from you in an instant, and there isn’t a single thing you can do about it because their law states that the man who just stole your possessions has the right to do so. This is not a civilized society, but a belligerent nation that seeks to tear everything from both its own populace and others for little other reason than they can. While they say Forenia is an army with a nation, it seems in truth that the description is far more apt for their own nation.
It is notable that the Canallans claim that this war was caused by us attacking their shores. This is false. The above detailed attitude of allowing for anyone to take what they wish has led several citizens of their nation to attack and pillage nations beyond their own shores. Before, they have bullied smaller nations around theses lands. They struck at our people and stole what they wanted in minor raids over years. While before our old nations were distracted by the long war and these were largely unreported, the unification brought about thanks to aid from the Americas brought this issue to the forefront. No longer would we let these belligerents continue to perform these actions. However, we did not immediately attack them. Diplomats had been attempted to be sent, but all were rejected without report by the Canallan government. Yet still, we only prepared. However, a year after our first elections, the Canallans, with victory in their war, decided to strike forth in number ever greater than before. We would no longer let this stand. It is for this reason we once more fully awoke the war machine, and marched to war.
It is with this that we come to the government of Forenia. There has been much said upon the topic by the Canallans, and all of it rooted in severe misunderstanding as to how the government operates. They claim that it was the military engineers that were leading the revolution, and this is completely false. The engineers had only joined the revolution when the High Command of Arstotzka had called for their deaths, as well as all of the spies, generals, and many heroes of the twin factions, during the announcement of what they called the treaty, and had only joined out of fear for their own lives. Further, not all of the engineers had decided to join the revolution, with many deciding to simply flee.
Further, this was not the start of the revolution itself. The revolution had been in existence for over fifteen years at that point, fighting against the tyrannical governments of both factions in order to establish a government where all were equal. These men and women of the revolution fought hard in order to establish such an order and it is horrifically disrespectful to disregard the struggle they had gone through for their goals.
In addition, they make the claim that the military engineers and army now lead the society. That is again false. Those both belong to the Ministry of Engineering and the Ministry of War under the Supreme Command, an elected parliament led by the Prime Minister of Forenia. A parliament that is elected by all Forenians, not merely one section of the populace.. Majority control is currently under the Unification Party at the current time, but many of the rest of these elected officials belong to a wide variety of other parties. The Canallans claim all of these parties are the same, but the claims they make are in many cases the core values of every Forenian, and patently false in other cases or do not consider the surrounding issues.
First is that they claim all parties are asking for an increased military budget, without consideration to the fact that our nations are currently at war. There are very few people who would think that when a nation is at war, you would want to reduce the budget of the primary means you would have to fight said war, especially when such a war has just started. The fact that the parties all call for a stronger central government is also due to the fact that we just entered into a what is a major international war for us. During such times, the government needs to be stronger in order to better be able to prosecute the war more effectively. Finally, they claim that all parties are for the nationalization of the economy, and this is just plain false. The only party that has made claims in that direction is the Socialist Party of Forenia, and even then, they do not call for the nationalization of the entire economy, only for nationalization of businesses of criminals arrested for unsanctioned violence.
It is uncertain where their talk about the suppression of truth through the elimination of free speech has come from. It is likely due to the fact that only the governmental paper is sent to their embassy, but there are numerous other papers in existence throughout the nation, thanks to all governmental papers having only been opened after the war had started. As for the claims of book burnings, they seem to be making the mistake of conflating the new ministry of Forenia with the old ministries of Moskurg and Arstotzka, which were both totalitarian governments, unlike the new nation of Forenia.
It can be admitted that there does exist a number of loyalist rebels still living within the countryside, but these are forces made by those that held great power in the old governments and rather than joining the new government, they attempted to take down the newly established nation. These are not heroes that the Canallans are trying to claim them as, but instead greedy and power hungry remnants of the fallen totalitarian government brought down by the will of the people and are refusing to abide by the wills of the people, and seek to return the nation to a state where the people are suppressed by their governments once more.
Their statements upon riots are a misunderstanding of a term and tradition native to the island of Forenia. While riot is the most direct translation into english, a more apt comparison for the weekly events would be a combination of a protest, boxing, and the sport of American football, though that is a vast simplification of the sport. It takes place in designated zones, and allows for a great amount of stress relief, as well as the government to get an idea of what issues the population wants to bring to their attention. There are numerous rules in place to prevent long lasting harm, which with the borders of the zone are administered by what translates as the Riot Control Force, and any harm done is treated by the Ministry of Medicine’s Medical Corps. It should be noted that it is uncertain where they had gotten the impression that there is no police force. It is presumed that it is a projection of the way their society is structured, as the claims they make is how laws are enforced in their land.
Finally, there is what they call the policy of Eternal War. Once more, this is a misunderstanding of a native Forenian term that has many nuances to it. The policy is based upon a major philosophy of the Forenian people by the same name, which refers to the fact that every aspect of life is descended from war. Every aspect of life needs to be fought for to truly have value. There is fight in debates for what you believe in, the constant struggle to make your life better, and the constant war of preventing your memory from fading into oblivion. For the government, the Eternal War policy is the name given to the set of policies in order to make the island of Forenia known throughout the world and prevent our history and name from fading into oblivion. Despite what the Canallans claim, violent action is not the only aspect of this policy. It is in fact, the final resort of the nation after we are attacked and diplomacy fails. We are willing to speak diplomatically, but if we a forced to, we will fight.
The island of Myark one such example of the application of the policy. The Canallans have twisted the truth of what occurred around the island by focusing upon tiny portions of the events surrounding it. The island is a colony of the British Empire that Forenia diplomatically contacted the British as dual reparations for their conquest of our island long ago and for them providing us nothing in recompense for sharing the designs of the T2 Breaker and the AS-T15. Further, preliminary polling of the island long ago named after an ancient hero of Forenia was also performed and found that the inhabitants were largely in favor of it for many reasons, one of those being Forenia could better support the small island in the defense against the state-sponsored piracy of Canalla due to its greater concern about the rogue nation.
Our diplomats had been able to convince the British Parliament to allow for us to gain control of the islands, the Ministry of Ethics drafted up a forty-six page document to present to the citizens of Forenia as to why the island was being annexed into the nation, detailing the above mentioned reasons of the reparations, the polls, and the request for protection, as well as others. As this was done, the military marched to the island in order to fortify it against the pirates. However, some fighting sadly broke out with some segments of the population of the island who had been unable to hear of the British declaration due to limited technology present upon the island.
The Canallans end their missive with a statement that Forenia will be annexing all of the islands in the aftermath. There is in fact another plan made for the aftermath of the war. At the end of the war, Forenia will establish the South Pacific Treaty Organization, a mutual defense and free trade alliance. The islands between Forenia and Turbados will have independent Parliamentary Republics established upon each of the islands and a single government upon the archipelago. After their first elections have been performed, an invitation to join the South Pacific Treaty Organization will be sent to the governments, which they can accept or decline by their own free will. Upon Turbados, we shall establish the Parliamentary Republic of Juraki within the southern third of the island, and will be sent an offer to join the South Pacific Treaty Organization in the aftermath. The northern two-thirds will be overseen until it can be assured that piracy has ended, after which the Parliamentary Republic of Turbados shall be established within the western half of this territory and the Parliamentary Republic of Canalla will be established upon the eastern half of this territory. Once their free elections have been completed, the offer of membership in the South Pacific Treaty Organization will be offered to them as well.
The Government of Forenia does not seek to annex Canalla. We seek to establish a lasting peace in this region of the world and to provide for our unified people. The Canallans have proven they would seek to conquer this region under their tyranny by their actions against the former desperate citizens of Juraki, and they likely will not stop here. They are a threat to everything that modern civilization stands for, and should be stopped. If it falls to us to stop them, then we shall do the duty requested of us to the limits of our ability.
Edit: Apparently, when tired as fuck and it was painful to write, I mixed up the sides they are on. Fixed that now.
