Cannalans have recently been producing propaganda alleging that their society possess superior social values to Forenia. This is provably, objectively false. See exhibit A: General Tereshkova. Tereshkova, who is definitely a woman, which we all knew all along, was allowed to not only join the Arstotzkan military (and continue to serve in the UF military), but also to advance to the rank of General. Which, again, was definitely a deliberate choice, and not due to a clerical error that listed her gender as male.
In comparison, Cannala has no women of any substantial rank in their military, though they claim that women are allowed to join if they 'meet the physical requirements'. Well, of the Cannalan officers we know of, 100% are male. Draw your own conclusions.

The Cannalan economic activity of note, piracy, has long been pursued and punished ruthlessly by the nations of the world for being detrimental to shipping and the world's economy. This move has proven controversial among a few parties who view this as a distraction from the war effort against the Canallan pirates, especially once revealed after the vote that they had granted us an island rather than hand over a fugitive.  In response, the Ministry of Ethics has released a forty-six page document detailing how the island can assist us immensely.  (Continued on page 4) Canallans Suppress Political Opposition By Faaris al-Wali Image of the forces of Captain Redbeard facing off against Canallan Military Forces. In a shocking move, the Canallan government has declared the opposition candidate in their last election, Captain Redbeard, as an enemy of the state.  This action was rapidly followed by the invasion of the island held by the pirate captain by Canallan governmental forces.  While the piracy conducted by the captain are deplorable, the suppression of political opposition by the government of Canalla is a disturbing trend.  This is notably not the first attempt they had made, having earlier implemented a policy where the only individual that can vote in the elections is the current ruling El Presidente. With the outbreak of the new war, the old Arstotzkan paper of the War Bulletin has been returned to service under the name of the Forenia War Bulletin.  This change was performed so quickly, that the initial papers were mistakenly printed under the name of the Arstotzka War Bulletin.  This highly embarrassing error is likely to cause lower numbers to read the official governmental paper.  It is due to this mistake that it is advised to read either the Weekly Star, the Moskurg Mail, the Independent Forenian, the Arstotzka Times, the Defender, or the Financial Report in order to check the information provided.  Of course, as you readers know, the Weekly Star is the most accurate of these papers. Excerpt from An Address to the American Ambassador

From the opera halls of Vienna to the bazaars of Addis Ababa, the spectre of imperialism is creeping across the world once more. It is an atavism from a less civilised age; anachronistic, yet it persists in the minds of dictators everywhere - the notion that might makes right is what causes wars of aggression and conquest. This new model of imperialism grows from domestic tyranny - yet it cloaks its actions in the language of freedom and democracy like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the government of Cannala, which even now prosecutes an unjust war against our glorious nation.

Cannala is led by the one known as 'El Presidente', who in title takes up the mantle of President - yet he cannot claim to democratically represent all Cannalan citizens. For decades in the Cannala-Juraki War elections have been suspended, and our sources show that a free election has not been held since 1910! Even if El Presidente was indeed legitimately elected then, democracy is not a system to vote in rulers who serve for life. El Presidente rules by force and fear, not by the people's mandate.

Of course, El Presidente is understandably afraid of the results should Cannalan citizens have unfettered access to the ballot box. There exists a significant underclass of Cannalan 'citizens' - conquered Juraki who would never cast a vote for the man who reduced their cities to rubble. The Cannalans call it 'indentured servitude', which the global community refers to in more prosaic terms as 'slavery'. Juraki workers live and toil and die on the sugar plantations to pay off the costs of their war - a far more extreme version of war reparations than any reasonable man would condone.

One might say that tyranny is an irrepressible element of Cannalan government. In the days of Spanish settlement, the Republic of Cannala was formed by nothing more than a band of pirates who ousted the governor and ruled by force of arms. Even in Cannala today, the identity of 'pirate' is what passes for their barbaric culture, along with the attendant connotations of thievery and banditry. The conquest and annihilation of the Juraki Shogunate is also claimed as a basis for the legitimacy of the Cannalan government to rule the entire island - an utter farce for those of us who are enlightened enough to see that conquest is never legitimate, that might does not make right.

No doubt the Cannalan diplomats have attempted to tar our nation with the same brush. They point out that the rebels who created United Forenia were just that - rebels who did not have the right to rule, or to force the merger of both states. I beg to differ - revolution is always legitimate against an oppressive and non-representative government. The Republic of Arstotzka and Kingdom of Moskurg were both dictatorships, and we are better off without them. Your forefathers understood that too, and it is for freedom that they fought and died on the fields of Yorktown!

In fact, the violent revolution that created United Forenia had no counterpart in the history of Turbados. Cannala today is stuck in the same imperialist mindset as Arstotzka and Moskurg were in 1933, only with more powerful weapons, making them a more dangerous threat to the free world. The revolution was necessary to remove the stain of imperialism from Forenia and establish our vibrant democracy, a lesson that Cannala, having achieved the complete conquest of Juraki, rejects.

Left unchecked, the Cannalan dreams of conquest will only grow. Co-operation is the only way the free nations of the world can stop the tireless advance of tyranny. They attack us today - they will attack you tomorrow.

Excerpt from the Weekly Star's Film Review section Rado Mazur A Review by Timur Baybasin Kazimir Carlowitz plays Rado Mazur in this latest film from the Frontier Productions Company Director Karda Simic.  Rado Mazur is a former soldier of the Arstotzkan Army and survivor of the fateful Battle of the Embassy, where he joined with the rebels to fight against the Glorious Leader and the Moskurg King.  After the United Forenian government had been established, he retired from the army after the establishment of United Forenia to his home in the northern reaches of the Province of Arstotzka.  One day, his home is attacked and destroyed by Arstotzkan loyalists.  Taking up his old AS-F14 rifle, Rado fights back, first for revenge and then to protect the small town of Malen'kiygorod from destruction. During the climax, the film makes use of masterful mixing of cameras along the side of the road, forward and backward facing cameras in the back seats of their cars, filming throug the windows of cars with a rolling backdrop, a stripped out car dashboard, and overhead shots of models to make an intense car chase that is amazing to watch.  The final brawl in the ruins of Mazur's house draws you in and has you almost feel the impacts of each blow, though the fight ending in a discretion shot is disappointing for any who sought to see blood spilled.  Despite this, this is a must watch film that may codify the action genre for years to come.

In the latest afront to civil liberties in Forenia, the bureaucratic MoR has decreed that rioting on weekdays shall now be limited to between 10AM-6PM, and 7PM-9PM. The two-hour reduction is justified on account of a need to 'boost productivity' to 'support the war effort'. Once again, the war takes priority over the needs of the citizens. Many have criticised the Unification Party for being no better than the High Command they overthrew.

Despite the triumphant reveal of the UFS Archer, supposedly a first-class modern warship, journalists from the Independent report that our navy is losing almost every engagement. Cannalan ships continue to harass our merchant marine, and troop transports continue to be sunk en-route to both the southern and central fronts. The War Bulletin continues to report only on our victories in the north, ignoring the fact that our incompetent navy is costing us dearly everywhere else.

Despite their departure being labelled a 'troop training exercise', and the fleet of ships accompanying them a 'security escort', we all know that we are in fact invading the neutral island of Myark. The Ministry of Ethics has released a report justifying the 'liberation', but again, we all know it comes down to greed. Not content with exploiting the resources of Forenia, the Unification Party seeks to 'unify' our neighbours in order to gain access to their resources. Perhaps Mutriqa to the north will be the next to fall to their budding imperialist tendencies?
The government claims that the British Parliament agreed to hand over the island. However, a closer examination reveals that the British thought they were handing over a fugitive named Myark, not the island. This sort of deceit is unbecoming of Forenia.

Disturbing reports have reached the Independent suggesting that the UFG may be planning to impose restrictions on opposition publications such as our own. Although so far we have been allowed to publish the truth without consequence, if the current trend towards totalitarianism continues, that may not be the case for much longer. The Prime Minister himself has released a statement: "...baseless rumours, spread by Cannalan operatives. Heck, I read the Independent every day. It's always good for a laugh". Disturbing indeed, that he considers our paper 'laughable'.
