[20:49] Radio Controlled: For the tinkering in cabal I'd like to do in preparation of Operation: Eclair at the Arena, would you like to do it in the thread, or would it be possible to do (some of) it over here?
[20:50] Mr.Bones: we can try it here
[20:51] Radio Controlled: Neato. You got some time now?
[20:51] Mr.Bones: sure
[20:51] Radio Controlled: If not, it can wait till whenever.
[20:52] Radio Controlled: Ok then. I'll assume Darwin can rent out a local workshop for a while, or maybe give the design to the local smith or something.
[20:53] Radio Controlled: So, first two fairly easy things. That magic sword, does it have a scabbard?
[20:54] Mr.Bones: nay
[20:55] Radio Controlled: Well then, I'd like to make a scabbard for it so it won't go full disco every time we put it down.
[20:55] Radio Controlled: Maybe make it a bit wider than a normal scabbard, and make it attach at the sword handle so it can be carried without constantly giving off rainbow light.
[20:56] Mr.Bones: Alright
[20:56] Mr.Bones: you need a cost for that I assume?
[20:57] Radio Controlled: Yeah, if you could.
[20:57] Mr.Bones: hmmmm 4 gold
[20:58] Radio Controlled: Kay. Next, you know that magic-sucking orb we found?
[20:59] Mr.Bones: ye
[20:59] Radio Controlled: The idea here is to make it into a sort of staff so that it is both easier to use (eg for poking against a zombie) and more protected.
[21:00] Radio Controlled: So, let's start with a durable metal cover with some padding on the inside to protect it from damage.
[21:01] Radio Controlled: However, make it so that the metal cover has a hinge so it can be opened up in case we wanna retrieve the orb. Make sure it uses a sturdy screw or something so that it won't accidentally fall pen during use.
[21:02] Radio Controlled: Secondly, make it so that the top 20% (or something) of one of the metal halves of the cover can be unscrewed, thereby exposing the top of the orb without the orb falling out of the cover.
[21:03] Radio Controlled: Does that make sense so far?
[21:03] Mr.Bones: Basically a sphere shaped clamshell with a little hole on one end and a long metal rod on the other?
[21:05] Radio Controlled: The idea is that the hole can be covered again when not in combat use, but yeah, basically.
[21:05] Mr.Bones: ok so clamshell with a trapdoor on top
[21:06] Radio Controlled: Uhh, I guess? Not sure if trapdoor is the description I'd use, but I think we're on the same page here.
[21:06] Mr.Bones: A little opening you can open and close
[21:07] Radio Controlled: Final detail: if possible, make it so that the metal rod can also be unscrewed and replaced by a small metal handle, when we wanna use it in cramped spaces.
[21:07] Mr.Bones: When I think Horizontal door I think trap door
[21:07] Mr.Bones: Sure sure
[21:08] Mr.Bones: Oh, do you want the sphere to be hinged and have a lock or bolted in place? Both let you get the orb out but one is definitely easier and faster
[21:09] Radio Controlled: Is the easier option in any realistic danger of accidentally opening up while in combat and spilling out the orb?
[21:10] Mr.Bones: In combat, no. Theortically a thief could pick the lock and make off with it easier than removing 6 bolts or whatever.
[21:10] Mr.Bones: but that implies a thief doesn't just walk off with the whole thing
[21:11] Mr.Bones: knowing me, It won't matter one way or another
[21:11] Mr.Bones: except for opening it fast
[21:12] Radio Controlled: We'll go for the easier option then.
[21:12] Radio Controlled: Price for the assembly, metal rod and metal handle assembly?
[21:12] Mr.Bones: Alright. Padded metal sphere that can be opened, with open and closable hole on top, with base to screw on two kinds of handles
[21:13] Mr.Bones: Do you care if it looks nice or you just want functional?
[21:13] Radio Controlled: Yeah, that's basically it. Unless you can think of anything neat that could be added to it?
[21:14] Radio Controlled: Huh, hadn't even considered aesthetics yet. Let's make functional, we can always get into fashion souls later on.
[21:15] Radio Controlled: And it'll lower the chances of attracting thieves, maybe.
[21:15] Mr.Bones: Alright then. Blacksmith can retrofit two helmets and some padding into the case and then afix the other stuff with bolts. 20 gold
[21:16] Radio Controlled: That's cheap enough I won't bother with trying to do it myself. Next up, the thaumic flamethrower.
[21:17] Radio Controlled: This one might be a tad bit more complicated, but the basic design should be simple enough: tank 'o thaum, imp fat pilot light.
[21:19] Radio Controlled: For pressurizing the thaum, I think a simple pump system (like in a super soaker basically, but a bit more powerful for more range) would be easy to use and means we don't have to bother with keeping track of propellant gas.
[21:19] Radio Controlled: Unless cans of pressurized inert gas are easy to find and/or we can simplify away that detail?(edited)
[21:19] Mr.Bones: Hmm.
[21:20] Mr.Bones: Well, I forget the name but if you look at your map there a town down there in the artifacter grave. They're the top builders of machines so you might actuallly be able to get high pressure canisters from them
[21:21] Radio Controlled: Getting such cans would require us making a detour to that place though, right?
[21:21] Radio Controlled: Or can we place an order for some and timeskip through the waiting period?
[21:22] Radio Controlled: Also I think the town is called 'Fearce' maybe?
[21:22] Mr.Bones: You could place an order and have it delivered to the arena area so its there when you show up
[21:22] Mr.Bones: unless you really want it now
[21:22] Mr.Bones: "Now"
[21:23] Mr.Bones: You could honestly probably send plans and get them to make up the whole thing
[21:25] Radio Controlled: That would be fine by me as well. Would you actually want us to keep track of the propellant gas and such, or can we just buy a couple of cans and fudge it a little as long as we don't use gas in large amounts anytime?(edited)
[21:26] Mr.Bones: we can use dice it
[21:26] Mr.Bones: if you're ok with that
[21:26] Mr.Bones: or say fuck it
[21:26] Mr.Bones: thaums the real resource
[21:27] Radio Controlled: I'd prefer only having to keep track of one resource to be honest, and I'd be willing to spend some more gold to just buy enough gas cans that we should have enough for a long while.
[21:29] Mr.Bones: Alright
[21:29] Mr.Bones: lets see
[21:29] Mr.Bones: tank o thaum, compression system with gas, tubes, pilot light, nozzle
[21:30] Radio Controlled: Two small features that'd also be nice to have: being able to twist the nozzle to go from a tight 'beam' of thaum or a more dispersed 'spray' (with shorter range of course, but hitting a wider area), and the option to flick away/cover the pilot light somehow (in case we wanna lay down some thaum without lighting it up yet, such as for an ambush).(edited)
[21:32] Mr.Bones: hmm do you want that last one intigrated or just like...have a little metal cup you can reach out with and smother the flame?
[21:33] Radio Controlled: Is there any real significant difference between the two?
[21:34] Mr.Bones: Hmmm possible the integrated one could be used in a quicker manner, but generally not. Would cost more
[21:35] Radio Controlled: Let's adhere to the KISS principle then.
[21:36] Mr.Bones: Put on face make up and sell your likeness to anything that wants it?
[21:37] Radio Controlled: Keep It Simple, Stupid.
[21:37] Radio Controlled: ((though I do play a bard that basically looks like a KISS band member in RL RP I play.))
[21:37] Mr.Bones: Okie dokie
[21:38] Radio Controlled: Could you tell me what the dice rating of this weapon would be?
[21:38] Mr.Bones: Hmm
[21:38] Mr.Bones: whats a long sword again?
[21:38] Mr.Bones: d6? d8?
[21:39] Radio Controlled: Depends, according to the rules:
A sword of mediocre quality, a club, a mace, a spear, a bow and arrow, a crappy spring gun, and all manner of simple and common weapons. D6 damage
A well made sword, a high power razor disk gun, a pole arm, a headsman’s ax and just about anything else that's well made or very deadly. D8 damage
[21:40] Radio Controlled: So, is a thaumic flamethrower more like a crappy spring gun or more like a real gun in terms of damage?
[21:40] Radio Controlled: Could get funky and make it a d7. :p
[21:41] Mr.Bones: d10
[21:42] Radio Controlled: :blobfearful:
[21:42] Radio Controlled: That's pretty sweet.
[21:42] Radio Controlled: Also terrifying.
[21:43] Radio Controlled: So how much for the assembly, gas canisters, and delivery to the arena?
[21:44] Mr.Bones: lemme think
[21:44] Mr.Bones: They can probably scav a lot of the parts
[21:44] Radio Controlled: Sure, don't be afraid to give a high price to a d10 weapon.
[21:46] Radio Controlled: But yeah, given the tech level of this world, it doesn't seem like the most difficult project in the world, so parts could probably be Mad Maxed to an extend.
[21:48] Mr.Bones: 70 gold total. For make and delivery. This assumes a standard tank for the thaum not anything armored or the like
[21:49] Radio Controlled: Would an armored thaum tank be advisable?
[21:49] Radio Controlled: I mean, is the stuff likely to cook of if people look at it funny?
[21:52] Mr.Bones: Well, the thaum is a bit weird. It won't explode but if it gets lit it will become a LOT of fire. So if you were burining stuff and the tank ruptured, there's the chance it could turn the fire into an inferno real fast. Also, collecting thaum that spilled out would be hard. It has odd and unpredictable reactions with other matter. As is the tank is gonna be glass with a layer of thin metal around it.
[21:53] Radio Controlled: Yeaaaah, some armor on that thing might not be the worst idea then.
[21:54] Mr.Bones: Is eclair carrying this?
[21:57] Radio Controlled: Probably, though I was gonna get one for Darwin as well I think.
[21:57] Radio Controlled: Unless d6 str isn't enough to handle this girth, of course.
[21:57] Mr.Bones: Depends on how big the tank is and how armored
[21:57] Mr.Bones: I SEE YOU RANDO
[21:58] Rand(): Talking about flamethrowers, I made a sheet for 888th.
About Cabal: How much strenght was needed to wield the Aqua Vitae sword? If I remember, a d6 strenght was for a d6 club. So, if the sword turns out to be a d10, would we (me and lenglon) need to wield it at the same time to use it like when we had to combine our strenght to pull it?
[21:58] Radio Controlled: Melee weapons don't have a minimum str requirement.
[21:58] Radio Controlled: That's only for armors, according to the rules.
[21:58] Rand(): Are you sure?
[21:58] Radio Controlled:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/18Wf8_VaK3hu1m5dimIKkhR9X9rjo2iBFeHODh0T3o2A/edit[21:58] Rand(): 100% sure?
[21:59] Radio Controlled: That's what the rules say at the moment, at least.
[21:59] Radio Controlled: Strength: Used for strength based tests, Melee combat and carrying things.
Speed: Used for fast, careful, and accurate actions, as well as ranged attacks.
Endurance: Used for tests that involve withstanding poison, disease, pain, and direct manipulation of the body by magic. Also determines armor you can wear, since you cannot wear armor of a higher protective die (Including bonuses) than whatever your endurance die is. For example, someone with d4 endurance could not wear d10 plate armor. But someone with d4+2 endurance could wear D6 armor.
[22:00] Rand(): I swear I read somewhere that armor rules also applied to weapons.
[22:00] Radio Controlled: Let's say the tank should be armored enough to withstand moderate abuse, but it doesn't have to stand up to the godhand coming down to smash it.
[22:00] Mr.Bones: Don't worry, if that is a rule pieceiwse forgot about it~
[22:01] Radio Controlled: Dev also thought that a while ago, so I may be the wrong one here.
[22:01] Rand(): I mean, then what's strenght for then.
[22:01] Rand(): Punches?
[22:01] Radio Controlled: But I can't find anything in the rules pointing to it, and don't remember pw saying so in the thread.
[22:02] Radio Controlled: Str is what you roll to see if the attack actually connects I think.
[22:02] Radio Controlled: Vs Opponent, Similar Combat: Such as two people facing off in melee combat. First, a simple stat vs stat contest, with highest winning. Then, roll the winner’s attack (whatever the dice of their weapon is) vs the loser’s defense dice (Whatever their armor dice is). The number that gets through is the damage they take. This game uses chunky salsa style damage so there’s no HP, but generally, the higher the number that gets through the worse the injury. Anything 5 or higher will generally kill instantly.
[22:03] Radio Controlled: Anyways, pw, the standard price was 70 gold. How much does armoring the tank a bit add to the price, and what is the str requirement?
[22:04] Mr.Bones: Well, armor with a....lets say 50 thaum tank is gonna push it up to a d10 requirement. 25 thaum tank is gonna be d6
[22:07] Radio Controlled: I'll just order the single 50 thaum tank one for now and get Darwin another weapon. How much goldilocks for it, good sir?
[22:08] Mr.Bones: hmmm lets say 90
[22:09] Radio Controlled: Cool, I'll add the logs and such to my turn.
[22:09] Radio Controlled: Final thing: a padded metal box to store oceanbottle in, with a small lock.
[22:10] Radio Controlled: We can do some actual tinkering another time, this has already been very fruitful, but I still sort of want to store that thing a bit more safely.
[22:11] Mr.Bones: I mean
[22:12] Mr.Bones: Just a box with pads?
[22:12] Mr.Bones: nothing fancy
[22:13] Radio Controlled: Nothing fancy, just something to prevent an "Oops we waterworld now" moment.
[22:13] Mr.Bones: Ah
[22:13] Radio Controlled: Like, make sure the box can withstand some punishment and has sufficient padding, but that's it really.
[22:14] Mr.Bones: A good solid metal box with a lot of padding is gonna run ya...oh lets say 8 gold
[22:14] Mr.Bones: Which includes a big lock for it
[22:15] Radio Controlled: Glorious. Ok then, that's it for Darwin's Tinker Extravaganza for tonight, thank you.
