Buy:
-d8 gun (65 gold ok?)
-fitted suit of d8 armor (fitted for Ecalir, 100 gold)
-Try to repair Ecalir's old armor, then sell it. If repairs fail sell it anyway and eat the small loss.
-Donkey to help carry our shit (30 gold)

-What difficulty rating would 'multiplying' the crystal skull get (assume we're trying to copy it once)? What about the platinum ingot?
-And for the ingot, if we cut off a smaller piece of platinum and tried to multiply that, would it be easier?

Then, unless something comes up in this town, teleport us (and the donkey!) to Thion Hudor. As before, drop in a ways away from the city and try to pick a spot that seems safe. Go check out the arena. what things do they have on offer?

More valuable and powerful things take more magic and skill, so something like the skull and ingot would be in the d20 range. The small piece of platinum would be more in the d8 range.

You spend pretty solid days painting. The man complains and tries to reason with you for a good part of the first day but you calmly explain to him that you're a painter, not a fighter, and that you're just as much a prisoner here as he is. You eventually come to a deal about you trying to get him out after the painting is finished; how truthful you are about that deal is up to you to decide.  Regardless, after two days you have a full sized painting that is, you think, quite realistic to the man.


Now, exactly how did you paint it? What position is he in? Is he clothed? In what? Are the injuries he has in life visible on the painting? Etc.

Do nothing, wait to see how everyone reacts to whatever just happened. Maybe try asking around what the hell just happened right now.

You wait around and watch. No one is really sure what just happened, though some are very glad whatever happened did happen because they were going to die otherwise. A few people make some guesses about divine intervention but unsurprisingly none of them get it right. Can't really blame them for not guessing that you two saved a god under the lake and that he banished the evils of this place into your new sword.

 A lot of people just mill around for a while but eventually they start forming groups, usually by destination, and leaving. After all, there's nothing here anymore besides this giant lake.


Well, lets see if they're scared of fire.  Throw a torch on the ground and enlarge it into a good-sized bonfire.  That might show us these raiders, so we can defend ourselves.  Tell the others to attack if they see anyone.

You toss a torch out on the ground and then point at it, unleashing magic.

The torch swells up from the size of a good sized branch to that of a large tree trunk, and the fire grows equally large, burning back some of the mist and illuminating a larger area. The circling raiders are revealed for a moment, great insectoid humans with smooth and eyeless faces riding on equally massive flea like things. They hold what might be catch poles and hooked rods in three fingered hands. A few moments after the light reaches them, they squeal and chitter before pulling back out, beyond the illumination and then a bit more. You can't see them but you can still hear them.

Having gotten the guy's cooperation by promising to try to help him, I'll paint him standing, with his back to the wall. He is in a classic regal pose, uninjured, wearing full plate with a helm under his armpit and a noble's longsword and dagger on his hip.
Ask if the man knows how to fight, himself.
Question: If I used endurance casting to imbue my kukri with lightweight-ness, aiming for a challenge die of d6, would the resulting unusually light knife gain any mechanical bonuses to hit, at least once I've gotten used to the new weight?

Pan hasn't gotten back to me yet, so this might change, but let's say yes. Make sure we bring all of our stuff, and we end up a bit outside the city. Observe immediate surroundings for anything notable, then set out for the city proper.

Once at the city, give it a quick tour. Anything noteworthy, outside of the arena itself?

Finally, go check out the arena. What kind of matches are on offer?

The people seem a bit confused as to why you'd want a boat to get out of a place when they plan to walk back along the shore and eventually up the river to Mesothorium.

Regardless, the two of you, along with about a dozen other people, head up north along the edge of the lake towards Mesothorium. You make it there by nightfall of the following day without issue. Your group is immediately surrounded by locals asking for details about happened in lake Limus; apparently the change was visible from some distance and fishermen in the delta leading to the lake were relaying stories of strange events.

Alright then.

The man says that he has training in sword fighting and hunting with bow and gun, though he has never had to fight another man outside of a duel. He thinks about this for a moment and then corrects himself that he has had a few fist fights in his time.

To hit? No. But it would mean you could swing it around faster, meaning you might be able to attack faster.

You shout offers to the raiders, indicating you would give them magical services if they agreed not to bother you or the people with you. They either don't understand your speech or they don't care because they seem to completely ignore you. And they're slowly circling in closer again, despite the light.

You grab hold of the nearest person who looks the most freaked out and pull mana from them, feeding on the fear. You gain back 6 mana. Wow, that person must be very scared.

d6+2, according to the rules.

I'll save you the rigamarole of what the teleport looks like; you've seen it before. -14 mana.

You appear a bit north of the city, on the dead scrub land that characterizes much of the world. To the north and the west is a large strip of jungle that dominates the horizon with tall, high boughed trees. The city is right outside that jungle, framed between a huge sea cliff and the jungle itself, with what look like artificial rivers running out from within the jungle, through the city and down into the sea. There are at least a half dozen of these channels and you can see a long wooden boat drifting down one and into the city. The city itself seems fairly open; it has walls but they're not the huge, reinforced things you'd expect in another city.  They're only about 15 feet high and made of white stone with brass decorative shields hung from them.

You head inside and wander around a while. The town seems to be a port of an odd kind; they get cargo from the river and send it down a large stone pathway down to the sea, where foreign ships gather and trade their goods for those of the kingdom. There are large markets here, often situated along the channels that lead through the city and eventually pour straight out over the cliff and into the sea. The city is built straight up to the cliff's edge and the arena, a giant stone Colosseum, sits on a small rise right at the edge of the city. You can see it from anywhere in town and it must have great views of the sea; there's even a set of 4 tall light houses built into the cliff side wall of the structure, just above the port down at sea level.  Other than that, its a fairly standard town; though the homes here are often made of the same white stone as the outer walls as opposed to wood. Gives the city a rather monolithic appearance with its hundreds of little white homes.

The arena itself is massive, several stories high  with 3 huge gates and several smaller ones. Its design is one of columns and arches, stacked atop each other and reaching at least 6 or 7 stories into the air.  Outside the center gate is a wooden structure, three posts forming a triangle with boards bridging the gaps between them. On this structure are dozens or hundreds of parchments, nailed  everywhere from knee height up to 20 feet above your head. There are drawn images of gladiators and beasts along with lists of events and bounties for beasts and fighters.  Its a chaotic jumble but from what you can make out, this evening they're having exhibition bouts between new comers with the top 20 being immediately inducted into the ranks of gladiators.  According to people you ask, this happens every few weeks to replenish the ranks of the gladiators.

Go for the closest bar/Inn/tavern and try to get another job related to hunting evil wizards or criminals. Also try to gather information about the mage breakers.

In our private room, convert the crystal skull into mana (30 mana).

What exactly does this entail? Are gladiators bound to service or to a certain amount of matches or something? And how does the exhibition bout go exactly? Just gotta show of your moves, some nonlethal sparring, fighting a monster?

What about the betting? Is there a centralized system or just ad-hoc between people?

Finally, go inform a bit about what they do with dead monsters and if they could use a resurrector for dead gladiators.

Summon a gorilla, aim for a d6 ape.  Try to get more size for the difficulty by summoning it for 24 hours instead of permanently.  If passed, use 'grow' as an illusion to make it look bigger and monsterous, say a d4 illusion.  Order it to roar and look intimidating this turn.  Then encourage the last guy to stick close to the wagons, and hug the next person on the rope

If Randolf accepts my offer, then show him where I live, so we'll have a place to meet up again. (whilst there check for messages left for me while I was out), then lead him around town showing him the good places to get items, jobs, food, etc. Since he seems to want to be an amateur Mage-breaker, and I already have an in with the local guards, also introduce them to each other, and offer to take on a few of the harder tasks that I'd been afraid to try to take on by myself.
