I opined a similar viewpoint in the Europol thread.  We're either in for a hell of a ride, or endless hellish misery at the hands of the corporations.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.

Idk, I'm becoming increasingly exasperated with the leadership at the top levels of our government, and it's becoming increasingly obvious that someone needs to do something about it. Either someone who both parties respect enough that they can get something done, or someone who the people love enough that they can reorganize shit to work more smoothly. If something doesn't happen soon...

Expecting a "someone" to come along and fix things is unrealistic. It's usually how you end up with dictators, not saviors.

Which is why we turn to a something

It's a pretty notorious natural law that the more angry and stupid a congressman gets, the longer he or she will live. This progresses until you get someone like Strom Thurmond, who was so angry and stupid that I'm not totally convinced he isn't still out in the carolina countryside murdering virgins and livestock.

The Manafort trial has started, and the judge has already banned the word "oligarch" explicitly to stop insinuation that Manafort worked with criminals, restricted what evidence the prosecution can admit, demanded the prosecution shorten their presentation by a week and suggested there "may be a slip between the cup and the lip" regarding a case that looks very solid.

T.S. Ellis, folks. Because we really needed an arrogant, decrepit, grandstanding asshat presiding over this trial.

I honestly don't have a clue what "a slip between the cup and the lip" is supposed to mean (I would interpret it as "this case is so open and shut that the prosecution could only lose it through gross incompetence" in a vacuum, but that would be an extremely inappropriate sentiment for a judge to express during a trial), but it is normal to restrict prejudicial terminology in court cases. The term "oligarch" is a loaded one, and the associations with which it is loaded are not what Manfort is on trial for.

The case has just started and Trump has already demanded it be stopped by Sessions, who has recused himself and technically can’t do anything about it.

In other news, Trump thinks you need ID to buy groceries, and that’s why we need voter ID. Broadly speaking.

Yes, but this isn't a trial on collusion. This a trial on... tax evasion, among other things. Working with unscrupulous figures does not make one unscrupulous, and is not the crime he is accused of. It's the lavish lifestyle lived on stolen dollars that he's accused of, and the last thing this needs to do is boil down into a partisan clash.

While we're being pedantic, it's not the lifestyle that's illegal, it's what he did to fund it.

If Q did assassinate Trump, it would only make him a martyr. Ending an idiotic ideology is rarely as simple as killing it's leader.

While I accept that dictators and arseholes are products of their society, there can be better and worse ones.  Sadly, your american system is so corrupt, right-wing and straight-up evil that if you killed Trump you would get someone no less evil but far less incompetent. Might be better though.

I still support assassinating Trump on principle.
