You misunderstood. He wasn't saying it's welfare, he just wanted to say "fuck boomers" and that was an opening. "stealing from themselves" shows he's aware how it's funded.

Werther's Originals are still in business because old people suck. And I'm just respecting the democratic will of the boomers that they be abandoned on street corners after retirement, not my business to deny them. Might as well give the money to people who actually want it.

Gotcha.  I picked up on that, but wanted to throw my 2 cents out there I guess.
Sorry MetalSlimeHunt I wasn't aiming at you.
If boomers do that, they're complete idiots.
But I'm sure that those in government who would vote on this certainly DON'T need any SS benefits when they retire.
So in essence, like most things the government does, it's always a "fuck them" not a "fuck ourselves".

So do I. So do normal people! It's sugar! Liking sugar isn't a boomer thing, you monster! How dare you impugn an innocent candy by associating it with them!
Pff, not that I'm saying anything about the company which makes them. Probably evil, knowing capitalism. Still, that guilt shouldn't flow down the physical item created. Any more than it does to everything we own and interact with.

Which is to say it does and should, but we probably like it too much to actually care enough to meaningfully change behavior :P

Any case, their owner is a german company that also does chocolate, so yeah, probably evil. Likely child labor involved or somethin', I'unno. Kinda' forget what the common atrocities in the chocolate pipeline are, at the moment, just recall that there are some that get reported on occasionally.

Since you or I would not be able to use such an out, the policing that trump has experienced is indeed unfair-- QED;  He operates from a supremely privileged ivory tower.

Also, every president during my lifetime, and before.

I think I might be alright with cutting social security at this point. If the boomers want to steal it from themselves, go forth, not like it makes a difference to me.
Social security is not a tax-money handout. It is not "welfare". Each working person pays part of their paycheck into social security every week. Taking this money they paid in away from them in their old age is a crime. Period. The fact that each working person has no option to "opt out" of paying into the fund is also a crime imo, but that's another issue altogether.

Yes, although Boomers were the first generation to vote to steal the money from future generations. Social Security is only about 100 years old.

The system before that though was that the elderly lived with you and you took care of them. That's the same transfer of resources.

I mean ... it's not really very socialist minded to be complaining about money you put into the system being taken out to assist someone else. If someone said the same thing but replaced old people with black people wouldn't you be outraged about the comment? "Boomer" is just a euphemism to attack old people without saying as much.

This is why there's no socialism in the US. This is why you can't have nice things

what the fuck do you have against hard caramel candies

Hard candies aren't even a boomer thing! It's a greatest generation thing. Boomer candy is chocolate, snacks, and gelatine candies.

i think it's because you suck on them

werther's is still in business because old people suck, and so do young people, unless they crunch, and then there's no more werther's original

i think there's an allegory in here somewhere? someone do that wise thing and interpret me for me.
Interpret your nonsense for yourself. It is the only freedom still allotted to us~

Austerity is not the only solution. (though it is the one that Rs like the most.)

Republicans generally prefer privitization. Austerity is the Democrat method. Easy mistake to make, they're continually becoming more alike.

Austerity is privatisation. The point of it is that private interests are supposed to take over and do what the government no longer does.

Unless you mean the literal privatisation of government off and which can only be done once. In which case I withdraw my picked nit.

So, Trump let loose more vitriol today about protestors in the capital hill area.

https://nypost.com/2020/06/11/trump-demands-seattle-officials-take-back-cop-free-protest-zone/

Apparently, handing out free snacks, screening movies about the dangers of racism, and converting the police department into a community center constitutes "Domestic terrorism" to the likes of Trump.

Well domestic does mean household, everyday, mundane. So a domestic terrorist is one that's tidy and polite and makes you feel bad until you give in to their demands.

But that implies that there is something there to be *terrified* of. Otherwise, it cannot be TERRORism.

Here's another, more reputable source on the "Terror!" snack and documentary pushing protest area.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/06/11/trump-seattle-autonomous-zone-inslee/

Quote from: Washington Post article
Soon after moving in on Tuesday, the protesters hung a banner on the police precinct proclaiming, “THIS SPACE IS NOW PROPERTY OF THE SEATTLE PEOPLE,” the Seattle Times reported. Protesters later screened Ava DuVernay’s documentary “13th,” which highlights racial inequities in the justice system. At least one man with a long gun was seen in the area, the Times reported, despite a ban on weapons on Capitol Hill, but the scene has been peaceful since police left the area.

Sounds to me like they kicked the real terrorists out.  Terrorism is the coercion or manipulation of a population via the threat of harm or violence, by utilizing terror to achieve compliance.   Trump's threats to send in military goons--THAT is domestic terrorism.

Serving free snacks?  Unless you have a peanut allergy (and they are serving peanut butter cookies), or you have Celliac disease (and they DARE to use non-gluten-free!! Shocking!), those snacks should not in any way induce terror.

My guess?  Trump feels terror at the idea that he might have to suffer consequences.
