Looks like I'm not added to blacksmiths yet, "Petestorm" is the name.  So far, 3 runs and 2 runes, so not a terrible showing to start.  A win would be nice though.

You're added to my file - I just checked. Have you added me as team captain in your file? The code is copy-pastable from the team list in the first post, if not.

I'd like to join Miners. I've won in 0.18 a few times and I expect to win a few times in the tournament. My dcss name is ggurman.

When starting up a tabber character - say a MiBe or MiGl - and setting skills, is it better to go all-in for the selected weapon skill, in hopes of finding a good weapon, or to focus on Fighting, for the first few levels, in anticipation of swapping weapons as the dungeon demands?

Random question.

When starting up a tabber character - say a MiBe or MiGl - and setting skills, is it better to go all-in for the selected weapon skill, in hopes of finding a good weapon, or to focus on Fighting, for the first few levels, in anticipation of swapping weapons as the dungeon demands?

What I do, for all my melee guys, is focus Weapon Skill, and leave fighting and the most important of Armour/Dodging/Shield trained, but unfocused. I stop Armour/Dodging at ~10, fighting generally goes on unless I need Invocations. Weapon skill stays until mindelay or 1 AUT attacks, depending on the char.

Oh, interesting. I think I'll try that. The strat I've been familiar with is 100% on the kill-dudes skill until min-delay/sufficiently-low-casting-failure, then 100% into relevant defense. Then split out afterwards on an as-needed basis.

Well, there goes my VSWr. Juggernauts are apparently capable of dealing ~60 damage a turn through 40 AC and crystal plate armour. Bluh. The worst part is that if that last large rock hadn't hit me, I'd have gotten away clean.

First win for me with 14 runes :) No bone rune because Tartarus 7 is way too tough for my demonspawn, The regular monsters are kicking my butt. I did not kill most of the uniques in Hell and Pand, just grabbed the runes and teleported away so I might try another 15 runes run this tourny.

When starting up a tabber character - say a MiBe or MiGl - and setting skills, is it better to go all-in for the selected weapon skill, in hopes of finding a good weapon, or to focus on Fighting, for the first few levels, in anticipation of swapping weapons as the dungeon demands?

What I do, for all my melee guys, is focus Weapon Skill, and leave fighting and the most important of Armour/Dodging/Shield trained, but unfocused. I stop Armour/Dodging at ~10, fighting generally goes on unless I need Invocations. Weapon skill stays until mindelay or 1 AUT attacks, depending on the char.

Oh, interesting. I think I'll try that. The strat I've been familiar with is 100% on the kill-dudes skill until min-delay/sufficiently-low-casting-failure, then 100% into relevant defense. Then split out afterwards on an as-needed basis.

I've always done 100% weapon skill until mindelay or the leveling gets too slow (~level 18, depending on the race), then 100% fighting till level 16 (an arbitrary number that's worked well), then Armor to 20/Invo to 10ish/whenever fail rates hit 1%, and then I train whichever one of Shields/Fighting/Long Swords/Armor/Invo/Dodging (roughly in that order) I need most. Basically, first you want to to more damage, and then when you get less of a damage increase for XP gained, focus on defense.

I usually go with weapon skill until 1.0 delay, Fighting/Armour/Dodging/Shields to six and then push for min delay. After that, I just split xp between all skills that I might find useful and forget that the m key exists for the rest of the game. Mind you, I don't use non-lajatang two-handed weapons, so that might impact things.

With casters, I usually do the same thing, but more staggered. Conjurations/Elemental until #### power, Fighting/Dodging to six and then get whatever spell carries me through Lair[Sticky Flame, Static Discharge] to 1%. Then alternate between boosting spell skills two levels and boosting other stuff two levels.

Considering a 15 rune, but I've never cleared crypt or gathered a pan rune.  Also I always have a terrible time in the Ice hell.  Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.  I have yet to use a device recharge, so feel like I should at least have to do that once before I call it a win.

You could definitely do Tomb with that equipment. +11 antimagic exec axe and Riposte? I legitimately can't think of a way to make that less absurd. Health could be a problem with DD, but I've never gotten one past Lair, so I don't really know how to keep that high. In Tomb, make sure to fight only one enemy at a time. Abuse stair dancing. Be especially cautious of greater mummies, because they have many nasty spells. Antimagic should ensure they only get off a few, but several torments followed by smites can finish off anyone. I have no idea how device recharging interacts with -20% MP, but it might be good to cure it if you're going to need a lot of Heal Wounds charges.



I just got out of the most terrible labyrinth ever. It took me six THOUSAND turns and ~25 minutes to get out of, plus I used ~15 teleports out of desperation[Thank Xom I found a wand of tele earlier]. I was legitimately considering either quitting or spiking my potato on the floor every time I turned a corner and found another goddamn dead end. At least the loot at the end was sweet[Ring AND Staff of Fire on a FE and an OK randart ring].
