Whether we go now, or wait, it's probably going to be a mess.

It's more probably going to be a mess if we go quicker, and go to Goatland.

We risk failing the mission if we delay, but we risk death more if we don't.

I think I am for delay.

I'll hopefully post something IC to that effect tomorrow but I want to go to bed now.

Sadish is aware that the definition of assuage is not "to finely massage", right?

She believes being fully educated about the subject is the best antidote to fear. :P

Btw...

We really need to vote here!

Since no one wants to be Captain. :P

Decisions!

#1 The crew has a jump solution, using that they can reach the Flounder within minutes, and be on the planet in minutes more. Unless Varkonius' goat purchase takes only a few minutes, that means it's quite likely they can catch him on the ground.

#2 On the other hand, both the EM flask and Kesari's improved EW defenses will take a considerable amount of time, which might mean that delaying could be the smarter option- though it gives time for a lot of the unknown variables to converge on Varkonius.

#3 There is a third quasi-option here: Use the jump solution, but hang back and don't move in on the Flounder. Just sit back, run scans, and wait. Comes with the danger of being noticed, but is a step back from flying in where Angels fear to flutter.

I cast my vote for option #2. I still think it's a trap we should avoid.

Yes, voting would be nice.

For big, important things, I do enjoy specifics.

(Alternately, if there's not enough voting, I can open up a poll. At which point you're the mercy of every person in FGaRP. God help you.)

@Draignean: This is the problem with every sort of 'crew running a ship together' game. Everyone wants to run around doing things for their own characters, no one wants to MOVE THE SHIP.

And no one wants to be Captain either.

DH's perk is about to become a hands-fretting accountant fragment of the ship's computer computer gains sentience and wrests control of the Reunion, captaining the ship really capitalistically.

"I'm sorry, but I AM going to be sending you into that Hellish firescape. There's a 100K credits on the line, and, even if all of you die, I can still afford to re-hire 28.3 crews of mercenaries to attempt the mission and still make a profit. I will ensure that affordably priced flowers are sent to your families."

I think the third option sounds good, really. A nice balance between trying for profit and not being turned into goop.

I wouldn't mind an AI captain, as it's against my character nature to take command of anything. If she did, the entire crew could be standing guard while she digs for alien-osaur bones on some Hellish deathworld.

I REALLY don't want to do that, it's more of a frustrated threat.

Having me intervene as a captain figure feels like its intervening horribly with the spirit of the game.

Yes, a captain would be easier, but making a clear voting point is a good solution.

Edit:
I vote #3

I'll vote for 2.

No glorified profit calculator is taking my ship from me. I'd rather dismantle the whole thing than be bossed around by an accountant.

My vote is for #1. We're never going to catch Varkorius more off-guard than when purchasing a goat whose status has been publicly advertised for mysterious and baffling reasons, and neither of the things we could do in the meantime are likely to terribly help. We went to Deliria in the first place hoping to prep for this mission better, but it didn't help a ton; yes, we bought a few neat toys, and may have gained critical intel on an adjacent matter, but we didn't quite uncover the silver bullet we were hoping for.

Probably because there really isn't one. Varkorius is a really dangerous individual and we've agreed to catch him. Unless we want to try something tricky and just mug his egghead after the fact, there's really no getting around that fact.

There's also the potential that he's working with someone with control over post-apex level biotech capable of killing all of us within moments and this is all a sort of honeypot to test it out. . . though it clearly works so it raises more questions as to what the motivation is

regardless, most people don't want to be turned into viral goop for ANY purpose

This is exactly what I'm talking about. These are all very scary and terrible, but there's no clear link between that and Plans #2 or #3 here. How do they reduce the odds of being reduced to a viscous goo? They don't, but, you know, taking it slowly sounds safer than rushing in, even if there's no actual mechanism to make that happen this time.
