As such, the young Fernando spent much of his younger life on the run, seeing his people slowly diminish as they were rounded up by authorities or killed by purer humans. Eventually, Sanchez was able to leave the republic through an ingenious plan involving the kidnapping of a bishop, a wagon full of whiskey and a herd of mules, thus the name. Since then, Sanchez has been a renowned smuggler of various goods throughout the Papal State and other realms throughout the Mediterranean being famed for being able to get anything for the right price. While sterile, Fernando is rumoured to have a veritable army of adopted orphans throughout the Maghreb, each trained to expand Fernando's mercantile empire.

A: The original Saint of the Red Star, otherwise known as Countess Concordia, was a young female mutant who lived in present day Russia. At the age of 21, she became religious to deal with the stress of life, and before long, she began preaching to large crowds. While originally local, she grew in popularity all across Russia, turning the previous Agnostic majority country Catholic. After this, she began preaching all across Europe from age 22 to age 30. At 31, she became wrapped up in a civil war in Germany, where she was killed in the crossfire by an unknown, though thought to be human, assailant. It wasn't long before a second Saint of the Red Star, this time a 22 year old female human, sprang up. This one was Alejandra Palaeos, a member of the Brazilian Directorate who was sent to Russia on orders of scouting. While there, she saw Countess Concordia's memorial, and was so touched by her bravery that she became the new Saint of the Red Star. Due to her connections to the BD, she preaches all over the world, leading a nomadic life.

A: For the first few decades after the flare, it was extremely difficult to communicate on a global level. As such, global organisations tended to breakdown, resulting in a multitude of successor organisations. The Sepal Magistrate was one such organisation. Based in Nigeria, the Magistrate is formally the head of what is now called the Benin Catholic Church. Like their Papal colleagues in the Mediterranean, the Benin archbishops gained more influence and authority after the flare, eventually becoming de facto rulers over their parish and eventually large parts of the region. While the Magistrate's directly rules only parts of Nigeria, Benin and Toogo, its religious authority stretches much farther, with some religious tension in the north due to issues with the Roman Catholic Papal States to the north. A: Bastion Rouge is the most successful international terrorist organization on the planet.  They claim to support human rights and the pro-mutant agenda, targeting almost every government or settlement in the process.  While there are many peaceful and political movements that hold the same views, Bastion Rouge very specifically uses small group cult like brainwashing and engages in the worst kind of destruction and murder of civilian and military targets.  They also engage in a  wide variety of criminal enterprises to fund themselves.

A: A few species of mutants are able to consume things contaminated with various radioisotopes and toxins unharmed, their digestive systems separating the hazards from the useful material, storing the nutrients and so on in the species' bodies and excreting dense slugs of radioactive, toxic, or indigestible matter. These species are revered by many less-advanced groups for their ability to convert poisoned ground and worthless food into good meat, milk, and hide, with their strange, sometimes-luminous excreta enshrined in great, sealed cave-temples by their would-be worshippers. The territories of these tribes are recovering from their contamination far more rapidly than neighboring lands.

A: Some eventually leaked, others remain locked away in their silos. Some societies or groups are aware of their locations due to either oral traditions or recovered documents. The remaining submarines are either marooned on land due to the evaporation of the ocean or still in a small pocket of water somewhere, although their crews are long dead.

A: A group of rampaging mutants known as the Normandy Brigade currently control it, after seizing it after an epic battle with a group of German humans known as The Teufels-Maschine, or the Devil's Machine in English. They took control of it after the flare hit in order to have a base of command. The battle took only 12 hours, yet it left the Devil's Machine with only 1/4th of it's members, while the Normandy Brigade sustained minimal casualties.

Peter Luckee was a man who wanted to install a fascist system to keep power together. The german people undecisive till the end, lost control over their government, as the uneducated masses flocked to this man of power. Thomas Lümmel was a socialist leader who went underground after Luckee's election. Together with the liberal forces of the Green Party as well as the Liberals themselves (surprisingly), they managed to overthrow the fascists over a bloody war. The war itself scarred the germans, and they never managed to recover from it, eventually splitting into many city states.

A: Schwarzer Wolf, or Black Wolf in English, are the most prominent and powerful German City State. Unlike the rest of the country, which grew more and more violent with groups like the Devil's Machine, Black Wolf stayed quite peaceful, even assisted in matters outside their own, like Countess Concordia's memorial or the extradition of War Criminal Lee Strenn.

3rd Han Dynasty: Emperor Taizong (an era name; the current dynasty does not disclose given names when unnecessary) currently leads the empire. A rational and calculating man, Taizong was not first choice for emperor and his succession only came after a palace coup against his nephew. In Taizong's 26 years of rule, he has succeeded in reclaiming much of China for the nation and indeed, has sent sent out multiple expeditions to conquer the great wasteland to the south of China. While clearly having a public policy of expansion, Taizong has also brought about a period of industrialisation unseen in China for many years. Currently, Taizong faces the problem of Mongolian techno-hoards attacking his realm and that of vassal states in the north.

Brazillian Directorate:1st Director Lucretia do Aguas is the current leader of the Directorate. Young, ruthless, intelligent and well loved by her people, the Director has the public policy of conquering all of the Americas for the betterment of all. While it can be debated how much she personally believes this, none can deny that Lucretia is ambitious and certainly has the resources to engage in a long reign of expansion. Unlike her predecessors, Lucretia is far more willing to use immediate aggression to carry out her whims, rather than the carefully refined art of bribes and subtle blackmail that have been associated with the do Agusas for decades. Currently, do Aguas face the problem of a growing reactionary faction her government who wish to return to the ways of her father. Others, more loyal to her and her new policies, are poised to defend her should violence come.

UEF: The current UEF president is one Jonathan Saddon, an elderly statesmen with little more than 3 years to go before the next election. In his term, the president has overseen the retaking (or at the very least, the idea) of the American West, which has brought the UEF into minor conflicts with Cascadia and other westerly entities. Besides this aggression, Saddon is known for sending out expeditions across the eastern wastelands and having a heavy terraforming policy.
