Rigidity of USA is why it's never been a dictatorship, and why it will not become one any soon.
It's more of an oligarchy, really

I dunno, it's not really a big deal, it just seems like a pointless restriction.

Yeah, you should totally have elections happen every 0.4 years. That way, politicians will always have to follow the will of the people! Isn't that what's democracy all about, following the will of the people, even if it's incredibly dumb and self-destructive a la Brexit?

In the UK, until recently we didn't have fixed terms. What this meant was that when the economy was good, our ruling party would call an election and win. Then when it wasn't, they wouldn't call an election

Pointless restrictions are the basis of all organized societies, respect your elders m8

Restrictions to keep society organised is not pointless restrictions. "4 years no more no less" is pointlessly restricting, especially when other nations can get away with "up to 3/4/5 years unless there's a crisis"

Didn't Belgium go 4 years without a government recently?
This just shows that anarchy works, no government means beautiful city-states.

It's important to remember that it's only the presidential elections that are every 4 years, and the president does not personally legislate. Congressional elections are held every other year, with a third of the Senate and half the Representatives being up for replacement in any given election. Instead of replacing the entire government on demand, the USA cycles through legislators so that there's both responsiveness to the electorate and a continuity of purpose between congresses. In theory, at least.

more like 4 years with the previous government while the new government figured out who was in it

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Sounds more stable than what Australia's had for the last few elections.

Yeah, once every century or somesuch, when a British monarch dies or passes down the throne, the Australians are allowed to have an election.

In NZ it's on the last Saturday of November every third year, unless extended or called earlier by the PM, which happened in 2002 and 2005 IIRC.

The entire House of Representatives is up for election every two years.
