X:Rebirth. It got widely panned when it was first released due to the massive amounts of bugs and the fact that you couldn't change ships, but a thousand patches later and 2 expansion packs, and it's become one of my most played singleplayer games.

Yeah me too. I enjoyed finishing it, just wish there was some improvements here and there (that requires mods).
It saddens me because I could see what Egosoft was going for, trying to make a decent story/campaign and added tons of fluff to itens, ships and things that made the universe more immersive and less reliant on imagination than the previous games.
But trying to make a console game was just the worst, most insane and non-sensical decision they could ever make.  ::)
I still have to try the new patch, DLC and mods, though. With SETA back the empire-building will be actually doable.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

I remember getting a lot of enjoyment out of Heroes of Might and Magic 5. From what I remember it was panned for not being Heroes 3 (aren't they all?), the abysmal voice acting, meandering nonsense plot, and its utter failure to be Heroes 3. But at least it wasn't Heroes 4, amirite? Eh?

I actually thought the voice acting was comically cheesy, and the fact that you play most of the Tower (Wizard) campaign without a Tower hero at all is hilarious. The plot was indeed brain-dead though... but I also found that amusing mostly because the actual tactical battles were on point and it did add a few new and interesting mechanics.

Sadly, the volcano-dwarf campaign in the DLC was basically RNG based on high difficulties, and I didn't have the patience to keep replaying it til I rolled the right spell on levelup. Still had a lot of fun until that point, though.

Spore. It's an overhyped mess of features and gameplay types that never quite feel in sync with each other, but dammit, it's unique. I had a lot of fun with it despite all the flaws. It's a shame we never got a sequel that could really do the concept justice.
That game has a lot of unrealized potential.

Everyone else runs away after few days tops.
Can confirm. Have run away.

Ultima 8 - it was the first Ultima I played, and I really liked its climbing mechanics and atmosphere. Even though I played through it with a walkthrough and looking back at it, thought it'd be annoying to play through without it. Seen by most Ultima fans as terrible for abandoning its RPG features and being more railroaded than previous games. Also a prelude to the horrible horrible Ultima 9.

Space Empires V - loads of techs, customization and attempts at 3d space and ground combat systems. On the other hand, horribly unbalanced, with a dumb AI, and the combat systems felt rather clunky. But I still loved it for the amount of complexity it offered.

Sometimes, I think I like Mass Effect 2 better than Mass Effect 1. And gameplaywise, Mass Effect 3 might be the best in the series.

100% agreed there. ME1 was great for introducing the setting and a bunch of great characters, but it wasn't until 2 that much of it began to shine.

ME3 certainly had hands-down the best class and combat mechanics. ME1 was just barely half-finished and the loot management (and loot!) was just crap.

At least ME1 had loot.

Hey. Hey now. I had fun with the Heroes 4 campaigns. Smashing through armies with mid-to-high-level heroes chugging revive-when-slain potions amused me.

Also, I liked Master of Orion 3. Admittedly, not enough that I played it enough to really notice the glaring bugs.

Same here, its going in the X3/X3-TC/X3 Albion Prelude direction and i like it. Sure it doesnt have everything from these games, but its slowly going back to its root. This was not X4 and will never be but its a platform to go back to it. They messed up on a very big way, realised their mistake and fixing it with improvement and design decision.

Remember when they said jumpdrive would not be coming? SETA was out of the way? Size of the galaxy for a more focused story? all that, well, slowly they are bashing these walls down and going where their playerbase wanted them to go instead of experiementing and go head on faceplant.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

I see a lot of hate over Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, but I'd say that it's one of my favorite Ace Attorney games. Not my absolute favorite, but more than (most of) JFA, for example.

All the games had loot. The loot's contents just changed throughout the series :P

ME1: Weapons, armor, and mods. Shame that the vast majority of it was stats-wise basically identical, and very little of it was anything other than a different color. And you got so friggin much of it. And often times it was never what you actually needed, like upgraded armor for your alien crew.
ME2: Resources for upgrades, occasionally actual upgrades, and rarely new weapons. All of it important, but very linear. The new weapons you find are almost always straight-up superior to older versions rather than sidegrades (with possible exception for the heavy weapons).
ME3: Ah, the pinnacle. Lots of upgrades and mods, and the weapons you collect are designed in such a way that none of them feel straight-up better than the rest. At the same time, they are also different enough that your weapon selection plays a large role in the way you play the game. And you get so many of them to play around with!
