ME3 certainly had hands-down the best class and combat mechanics. ME1 was just barely half-finished and the loot management (and loot!) was just crap.
At least ME1 had loot.
All the games had loot. The loot's contents just changed throughout the series :P

ME1: Weapons, armor, and mods. Shame that the vast majority of it was stats-wise basically identical, and very little of it was anything other than a different color. And you got so friggin much of it. And often times it was never what you actually needed, like upgraded armor for your alien crew.
But I like tons of useless loot that you rarely use to replace your current equipment. ;-;

I really like Diablo 1. Nobody else seems to like it since Diablo 2 introduced the never-ending battle.net loot grind, uninteresting combat and turned a possibly interesting setting into just another generic dark fantasy world. The atmosphere and immersion in single-player D1 is amazing, like you're actually descending into Hell to do battle with demons, imps, nightmares and the undead, instead of clicking a hitbox to make a health bar go down so that you can get a slightly larger number for your paper doll so you can make the next health bar go down a bit faster.

ME3 certainly had hands-down the best class and combat mechanics. ME1 was just barely half-finished and the loot management (and loot!) was just crap.
At least ME1 had loot.

ME1 had a lot of clicking the "Salvage" button, and not being able to pick up Enchanted Rifle Mod of +0.003 damage because I had too many Enchanted Rifle Mod of +0.002 damage. I liked ME1 for what it was but I don't see myself playing it again any time soon. Or ever again in general.

I like Final Fantasy 13. And yes, I've played other Final Fantasy games, and I liked those too, but I've honestly never got the hate for 13. Sure it's not open world. Neither was 10 and people liked that. The only major complaint off the top of my head is the whole "party leader dies, game over even if you have 99 Phoenix Downs", and I've played other games with that that are popular.

Edit: Also, Mass Effect 3. A game that is good up until the ending is still a good game.

I don't have many games to add here as for the most part I tend to the obscure, not the hated when it comes to games but I do have one:

The Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion

Yep, the bastard of the series in recent years that is neither as simple and easy to learn as Skyrim, nor as complex as Morrowind, and not nearly as bizarre and archaically hilarious as Daggerfall. I certainly don't love it, but being the first Elder Scroll game I played it shouldn't be too surprising that I have some fondness for it. The main quest for the most part never interested me, (although the pure madness that the Mythic Dawn members spout is pretty great) but what I always considered to be the best questlines of Oblivion and really just better then the other attempts at them in the series are two guilds: The Thieves' Guild and the Dark Brotherhood.

Sure, Morrowind had the Morang Tong which definitely wasn't a terrible questline, and Skyrim's Dark Brotherhood was one of the longer questlines in that game and I considered it to be probably one of the better questlines in that game, but neither were as entertaining as toying with the party guests in Whodunnit? or sneaking into a pirate boat through a crate like some sort of Snake wannabe. Of course it didn't have nearly as much depth or options as a game like Hitman, but it's an side-questline in a RPG, what did you expect? That being said there are quite a few Morang Tongish "Go kill a dude in a house or something or whatever" quests later on so it is far from perfect.

The Thieves' Guild has a much more iffy quality throughout the series. In Morrowind I got stuck on the first quest because the NPC I had to steal from would never move from the item I had to steal, and the Skyrim's Thieves' Guild has an extreme lack of, uhh you know, *stealing* and tends to be a bit more smashkilltake. (the Oblivion questline certainly contains some dungeons too though) Oblivion is the only one I know of that actually has heists and such which do not include the murder of all the extended Genericguardmansclan, of course the Oblivion questline much like the Dark Brotherhood has the problem of being a stealth questline in a game with a not very complex stealth system. That being said it is certainly better than the other attempts, so if you've never gone through it and have Oblivion, try it out!

That being said as enjoyable as those two questlines are, Oblivion has so much to hate too. I don't need to go into detail, but the people who know, well they know.

Artifact. A gamey, nostalgic online strategy game that I loved back in my youth. When I tried to present to Bay12... Well, it's deleted from my computer and I don't talk about it any more.

Uncharted Waters Online. Somehow I'm the only bay12 person who manages to cling to this outdated, grindy, mostly pay-to-be-elite MMORPG set in Age of Sail. Everyone else runs away after few days tops. It makes me sad.
I keep going back to it now and again. I like it, it just can't keep my interest because I'm not big into MMOs.

Apparently people hate KOTOR2? The gameplay sucks but I enjoy the story. It's the only story I've seen in a Star Wars game where I actually gave a damn about the characters and was not sure what would happen next.

100% agreed there. ME1 was great for introducing the setting and a bunch of great characters, but it wasn't until 2 that much of it began to shine.

TaliShep errytime
I liked ME1 because I had the Mako. :I
* Tiruin drives her All-Terrain-Tank everywhere in circles!
Despite it 'reducing exp earned per kill' as compared to getting out and shooting enemies (and using it as an APC instead). Despite it being pretty large without savepoints that being one-shot can push you back a long shot (looking at you, thresher maw). Despite it only having ~6 or a small squad of folks at your ally list. Despite it having a bit of wonky UI mechanics and first-aid options. Despite me needing licenses to own and sell certain guns. Despite me having an abundance of guns and auxiliary items on the full spectrum of 'battle goodies'! (Still ♥ Tali/Garrus though).

...I just liked driving my Mako everywhere .-.

Also yes indeed.

ME3 certainly had hands-down the best class and combat mechanics. ME1 was just barely half-finished and the loot management (and loot!) was just crap.
ME3 had cool ideas, too, and the stakes were high, the loyalty missions were well-written, the background goal of building up troops was well-done (much better than all the mining stuff in the other two games imho), and I love my sniper rifle. I frankly don't care very much about there having not been much in the way of endings.

And, fuck it, I really liked the MGS-esque "torture corridor" sequence at the end of the game. Just. Yes. I felt really emotional about it. I got really attached to Shep, which is not common for me even when playing RPGs.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh. Someone else understands! :'( [Sniper Rifle ♥]
And I also love the logical-conspiracy-ish idea that evolved from the 'ending' of ME3 because it makes sense instead of feeling like an unbelievable conspiracy to save the plot. :P And "everyone" (vocally significant # of people...) at that time hated that (or at least the metagaming knowledge fuelled-H8 got the news first before the people who gave it due consideration did...)

I liked Malkari (1999) for the PC. It was a 4x type space game that is apparently obscure and everyone that did ever play it absolutely hated for one reason or another.

I, too, also liked Masters of Orion 3 and Blake stone: Aliens of Gold as previously mentioned.

I also really like Diablo. D2 is a good game by most standards, but indeed, it doesn't feel as ... Diabloish (and I miss the old chain lightning).

I'm gunna be THAT guy and say Runescape, or at least until my main got banned for macroing on a date that I can prove I was playing it. I never touch macros or cheats in general.
It'd be OK if I were allowed to appeal, but Jagex's policy on the matter is 'You were banned. Feel free to make another account because we don't allow ban appeals'

I do have other accounts, it's just that that one I had been playing since I was about ten and damn the nostalgia.

I still get nostalgic "come back to us!" ads from Runescape on Facebook.  Even though I never actually played it...

My game is Mirror's Edge.  People didn't HATE it but it got a pretty lukewarm response, and a lot of people believe that first person platforming doesn't work.  But man, I loved that game.  The art style, the feel of running across the rooftops, even the much maligned combat system.  Can't play it any more because I've memorized every inch of every level, but still got lots of fond memories.

Mako was too much fun to play with, especially finding a good IV line and practicing proper tank fighting techniques.

I quite enjoyed Aliens: Colonial Marines. Was it polished? No, but it was playable, evocative, and fun.
