For his inauguration, Trump has invited nearly all bad dictators and extreme right politicians of the world. Apparently our dutch Wilders isn't extreme right enough, he has not been invited.

Silently hoping for it to turn out to be Trump's plan after all, gather all bad people of the planet, close the doors to the Congress building with all the bad guys in it, and then set it on fire.

There's gotta be some CIA plots that have been patiently waiting thirty years for exactly this opportunity

Trump's vain enough that he wouldn't want to invite anyone who could possibly steal the title of "Worst hair" from him.

Either that, or he might have just forgotten/not known that the Dutch exist.

I currently have mixed emotions... To start, I'm stressed because I'm way behind on my D&D dungeon prep and next session is right around the corner, and sad that I'm struggling so hard with just focusing enough to slam something out in a reasonable fashion.

But suddenly: I'm less stressed, since I have more time to work on the thing because next session isn't right around the corner! Woohoo!

However: Next session got delayed indefinitely because there's drama between some of my players, which could potentially rip apart a friendship of 12+ years if it goes south, and I might be the only/best person to try and mediate this ordeal so that things can get repaired...

I can only find 1 article that says Geert Wilders was invited and that's an extreme right fake news site. Our actual journalist newspapers say he got no invitation.

*exhales*

I've been in a pseudo-relationship with someone for the last six months, and tonight I finally had to tell them I didn't want to do it anymore.

I rushed into it against my instincts, and continued to bond with someone that I knew I probably shouldn't be with. She has a lot of problems and we mismatch in some pretty important ways to me. I stayed more out of pity and being a people-pleaser than legitimate desire, and that's BS for both of us. As time went on my enthusiasm for it waned to the point I started feeling guilty for witholding affection, because I knew more engagement wasn't going to make the inevitable any easier. And I let that go on too long.

We had the nature of our dynamic clearly stated, but that didn't help when the investment was so mismatched. It's not that things were terrible. We had some good times. They just weren't great a lot of the time, and had this undercurrent of low energy and largely her life issues that just continued to sap my attraction to her. It's hard to start getting invested in someone when their health, finances, situation, emotions and history are all rocky. I would have been great for her life. She would not have been so great for mine. As arrogant as this sounds, I'm not really looking to save anyone. I want to meet someone at my level.

Unfortunately the topic got broached over text. I still want to talk in person this weekend. I've been dreading this but it's time, again, to disappoint someone. I've broken things off with more people in the last three years than in my entire life, and it doesn't get any easier.

I'm glad for both our sakes though. I just hope she comes to a place of acceptance. She laid out her emotional insecurities pretty early on and this feeds into most of them. Which didn't make it any easier to do this, but is partly the reason I have to.

For one that's not arrogance. Going around "fixing" or "saving" people tends to just result in problems for everyone involved.

For two, sure, you might have let it drag on for longer than it should have but the truth is you did the next best thing which was ending it now.

Honestly one of the things a lot of people need to realise is they aren't responsible for another person's happiness, that person is. You can volunteer to help them there, you can provide what support you want, but it's ultimately not your responsibility. It feels shitty because we're a species that evolved on the basis of mutual assistance, but you aren't them. You can't change their mind, thoughts or feelings, only they can.

And that was kind of the other bit. She leaned on me for a lot of help. Doing her laundry at my place multiple times a week because her apartment laundry stank and was ghetto. Constantly having to order things on her behalf from Walmart and Amazon because they were "weird" with her accounts. Helping her move things because she's had multiple procedures since we met that leave her in pain or unable to lift heavy things. Sometimes she needed help just having enough for a meal for a day. None of this I knew when I got involved with her, which put me in the position of either ending it right there, or helping her. I opted for the latter but that continued to deepen her reliance on me. It kept adding weight to feeling like I was lowkey propping up her life and I just didn't want to be in that position.

She always said thank you and apologized for the fact she couldn't afford many things or do many things. She always paid me back for the things I got for her that she should be able to get for herself.

But yeah, there was an undercurrent of feeling like I was getting used. I'm a nice person, I like helping people and I don't ask for something in return for that. But it was also never-ending. Like, once or twice a week there was something she was asking me to do or order. None of this was a burden to me financially but it also didn't make me feel good. I don't want to malign anyone's life circumstances....but if you're going to be involved with someone, that kind of financial inequality becomes an immediate issue.

Plus she has impulse control problems and then tried to shift that on to me buying her candy, knick knacks, etc....yeah. I'm aware enough to see what was going on and drew some pretty strict boundaries, but she'd go right up against them and try to leverage our involvement with each other. And it just started making me feel more and more icky the more often it happened.

There's more to the whole thing but I'm not here to trash her. Suffice it to say I fucked around and I found out, and it was a good learning experience. I don't regret the time we spent together, and I hope her life was/is a little better for knowing me. But I'm relieved to have ended it.
